Pony Corral / Re: Baby Leaper Question

I agree with the above suggestions. Since rehairing him involves a few more steps than rehairing a pony without the mechanism, I personally feel that you'd have a harder time selling him with an alternate hair scheme because it would be harder to swap the hair out if the buyer wanted a more authentic look.

Off Topic / Fantasy readers, I'm requesting some help!
« on: August 03, 2018, 03:51:29 AM »
I know I've been gone from the forums for a long time, but I could really use some help!

Since I began publishing my series in 2016, I made it my goal to sell my books at GenCon. Long story short, I'm here in Indianapolis right now, doing just that! Very, very spur the moment, I decided to also launch an organic campaign on social media to try to bump my ranks and get better visibility on Amazon, but I could really use some help. Most of my current fans and followers have shared previous promotions I've done, so I'm really needing to reach some new eyes, and that's why I'm asking for help here.

To be clear, I'm not asking any of you to purchase my book(s) (though I won't tell you not to if it sounds interesting to you ;) ), just to help spread the word via a FB post share and/or a retweet that the ebook of the first in series has been marked down to $0.99 for the rest of GenCon. Here are the links to the posts:

It's a very character-driven series about a holy war against demons, set on an island nation that's been abandoned by its god. A young woman has the role of general dropped on her shoulders when her father dies, and has to lead her army against a force she previously thought was a myth. She's completely in over her head, so an immortal paladin is sent to help guide her and her people through the war.

Any help you can give me with spreading the word would be massively and forever appreciated! And if you're at GenCon now and have a chance, I'm always happy to talk books (or ponies ;) ) with other readers, if you have the spare time to swing by Authors' Avenue to say hi <3

Apparently there is another Dragonball movie coming.... this one focuses on Brolly....  I'm like, what, there's still super saiyans left to kick each other around?  How many times are you gonna power up before you implode the universe?  Give us more Piccolo!!!!

I am *always* on board for more Piccolo! But I'm admittedly obsessed with him (to the point that my household celebrates his birthday and my husband refers to him as my boyfriend... :/ :D ) It would be interesting to check out what's actually canon for other characters away from the Saiyans--I personally wonder about 17 and 18s' human pasts more often than I probably should and it's a little surprising to me that Super and what's coming after it is following the path it is, considering the way DBZ ended with Toriyama's alleged frustration at the same general plot loop, just with different bad guys, but the franchise will always hold a very special place in my heart that I'll never be able to walk away from :)

Rewatching Dragon Ball Z The Cell Games Saga, and Goku's death still makes me

What gets me every single time is when the end credits first changes over to We Were Angels. OMG. For some reason that step of seeing/accepting that Gohan grew up makes me bawl like a baby lol

Besides ponies, the only thing I really consider myself an active collector of is garden gnomes.

I used to have very little self control when it came to my collections and had a sort of "gotta catch 'em all" mentality about it until I realized it would break me financially if I continued like that, that I wasn't getting genuine joy from all aspects of these collections, that I would rapidly run out of space to display them, and that in a household that moves every few years, it would get increasingly difficult to move that much pony merchandise and that many concrete garden gnomes. So, I started getting kinda picky about what I would collect. With my ponies, if I can't brush their hair and they couldn't survive a dunk in a bathtub, I don't need them in my collection (some exceptions apply; I've got a deep fondness for the G1 ceramics because my mom collected some of them for me when I was tiny). For my gnomes, I've mostly just started getting picky about them on a case-by-case basis. They have to have "personality" for me to bring them home these days.

Strangely enough, I've gone through probably three or four lulls in my pony collecting over the roughly 15 years I've been collecting, but the only time I've ever felt I wanted to sell them was for financial reasons. My husband convinced me to hang on to them, and I'm really glad he did. As he put it, when I rediscovered my childhood ponies in college, it excited me so much and he'd seen me get excited for them all over again after I'm done with one of my lulls that he was afraid that if we purged them now, we'd just have to buy them (likely at higher prices) again later. My gnomes, on the other hand, I've never had a lack of interest in. I attribute this mostly to the fact that they're typically less easy to come by than ponies.

« on: July 28, 2018, 08:07:10 PM »
I am a full-time epic fantasy author these days :)

I went to college to become a veterinarian, but lost my constitution for dissections and necropsies my junior year, then got engaged to my husband who was established in a career that would keep us moving on a routine basis and decided to change my focus. I've worked a lot as a veterinary technician, I've worked rehabilitating research dogs and cats for adoption, I've worked a ton in canine and equine behavior, and had a brief stint as a military working dog handler. My absolute dream job at this point is to become a horse trainer and riding instructor (for very beginners to set them off on the right foot), but the liability and financial investment is more than my husband and I are comfortable shouldering.

All that said, I feel blessed most of the time (ie: when I'm not formatting or writing back cover blurbs...) that I'm able to write full-time. My career's still building slowly, but I've been watching it steadily grow for the past couple years.

I haven't done a formal count in quite some time, but I *think* it'd be G3s for me. I started actively collecting their first full year and very nearly have a complete collection of them now. I'd like to say G1s are next, but G4 may give them a run for their money since I can't say no to a variant and they released eleventy-billion of the core characters. I'm still in the process of getting everyone back on display after a move, but will try to get an official count soon :)

After literally years having stepped away from horse training, tonight I dusted off my "train someone else's horse" hat and begin building confidence in one of their horses, putting manners on a pushy one, and hopefully helping horses and riders become partners. I hadn't even realized how much I missed it until tonight.

Has Grimgar been mentioned in this thread yet? I watched it last week (it's currently a single season long) and am absolutely in love with its art and how it's completely character-driven.

Not sure if she 100% counts, but I made a Hedwig (and the Angry Inch) pony way back in the day when I first started customizing. She's not dolled up all that fancy (big hair, showy eyes and lips and simple symbol... if I remember correctly, one hip had the Hedwig wig and the other had the Tommy Gnosis/Origin of Love face) but I think she turned out pretty well. I wonder where I put her...

Have you tried looking at Bat wings?  They might work.

The problem we're running into is that we're having a heck of a time (literally been searching for a month and a half now) for images we can buy the rights to that have the wings shot from *behind* (so they fold forward). The few that we have been able to find aren't the right shape--sort of chunky instead of sweeping and long. I know it'd be easier to draw them (we've tried the commissioned artist route, but so far, they're kind of just making whatever wings they want without regard to my vision, or they won't sign over royalty-free rights--and yes, I'm more than willing to pay them to do so ;) ) but my drawing skills aren't nearly up-to-snuff for that. Now, pony customizing? I can handle that :) So I thought I'd start here :)

I lost interest in actively collecting at the G3/G3.5 transition because they moved too far away from what I identified as wholesome pony style. And then they went G4, which made my aversion even worse. It took me about a year and a half into G4, being super confused in my pony-collecting identity (my status as a collector either made me "one of those weird brony people" to non-collectors or "HEY! FIM! YEAAAAAH!!" even though I didn't collect that gen to the obnoxious side of the brony crowd), and a bout of almost depression that made me long to customize something to pick up my first G4 for customization purposes. And from there, they kind of grew on me. And I started collecting (though only ponies with brushable hair that would survive being dropped in a bucket of water). Now that they changed styles *again,* I've lost a bit of the enthusiasm I found again.

I'm just sitting back and crossing my fingers that if this is a sign of G4 dying out (the way G3 did when they got super duper gimmicky and then tried a major mold change), that their next try will bring us back to the G1/G3 style. Those are my favorites <3

Pony Corral / Re: does anybody LIKE bbe ponies?
« on: March 26, 2017, 05:01:49 PM »
The pegasususususes and unicorns are just about irresistible to me, but the earth ponies I kind of have to decide day by day how much I love them. I honestly think their neck conformation bothers me more than their blinky eyes. They were also the first set I completed when I began collecting.

The weird part? I have a MASSIVE phobia of glass-eyed dolls. As in will knock people over to get out of the room with them afraid. But BBE ponies don't seem to bother me.

Customs / Pics of/advice for customs with dragon/demon wings?
« on: March 26, 2017, 04:52:57 PM »
Hey guys! Long story short, my cover artist is having a heck of a time finding/making wings to fit a character I need on my cover (if we get the right bend, it's the wrong shape and vice versa), and so I'm thinking about biting the bullet and making the wings myself so I can photograph them for her and get things just right that way. HOWEVER. I've never made any good quality dragon/demon type wings on a custom before. Can I see pics for inspiration? Any suggestions of what material to use for the webbing/membrane between the little finger things?

I still haven't quite warmed up to the reboot style (but I was the same way about G3.5 and G4 as a whole, so I'm sure I will eventually :) ) but your Mimic screams absolute bliss and I love her SO much!
