USPS phishing emails
« on: July 07, 2014, 05:43:01 PM »
Don't know if it's old or anything, but I'm sure this is the second or third time I've gotten something like this.

So basically, the email states that I have a parcel waiting that arrived at this date and they want me to download the RAR file in the email. Now I tend to order stuff overseas sometimes and forget, because they usually take very long.

So I download the RAR, but was still suspicious. I scanned it with Avast! Internet Security. Nothing suspicious. So I unrar the file, and scanned it. Nothing found.

So I looked at it. It looked like a Wordpad file, so I figured "Well Avast didn't detect anything..."

Now I opened it. Windows treated it as an application  . So I looked at the file again and it was an .exe file!

So everyone, if you don't have any email filter on, or if it isn't blocked, add *@blog.autowelt-paderborn.de
to your blocklist, or any contact titled "Mail International"!

I know Avast didn't detect anything suspicious, but being an application file is definitely suspicious enough!

Thanks for the warning. I'd suggest checking if USPS has a phising/spoof reporting email - I know Paypal, Ebay, and Apple all have one - any emails you get like that, you forward to their reporting email, and it helps them track down and stop some of them.

Oh no!! :( I'm sorry! I hope your computer is all right. *hugs* I've been getting a lot of these emails at our office, but since I am the office manager and I keep track of all things ordered through the office, I knew the emails were fake.

Thank you for spreading the word.
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!
