Aussies - Postage Tracking Help?
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:27:52 PM »
Hi all

I am going to be selling a mass of ponies shortly and I am starting to think about shipping. I would really like to send all my packages with a tracking number (domestic and international) but I am confused by Auspost. I don't seem to be able to get my head around the different types of post and whether they get a tracking number. Can any Aussie ponies help me out with understanding this?
As I understand it, I have a few options for domestic:
Regular - no tracking?
Express - tracking?
Registered Post - signature with tracking number?

And international, well, I'm not so sure about that. I have only ever sent regular parcels overseas and I'm not sure whether they have tracking numbers or not.

I want to be able to cover myself (in regards to Paypal) when I post any items.
Should I even worry about tracking numbers if I am just selling on the Arena? Any advice/information would be much appreciated.  :)

Thanks Spinky69er. (I'm back on their website at the moment) Also, does anyone use Click and Send?

Just a little note - paypal do not accept express post tracking numbers as proof of postage. You will need to send everything via registered post if you want to cover yourself fully :)

It usually is $2.50-$3.50 on top of regular post costs in my experience!

Also, if you're posting to the states- keep it under 500 grams. Otherwise there's a $10 fee.

edit: always go with registered and have the buyer cover the cost, it pays to cover your toosh.

While this is on the auspost website I've sent heaps of packages over 500g to the USA and I've yet to be charged that fee :)

Alright, so I should go with Registered Post to cover the tracking requirements for Paypal. That clears it up for me heaps, thanks guys! Now, to continue photographing and describing (what feels like) one million ponies!

Boxes! I was really worried about that US charge since it would mean a small box would be like $30 to send.

I'll look back at some receipts to double check though!

no it won't. well that depends. i use news papers to ship deboxed mh dolls, and it costs about $20-$25 for me.  I use newspaper and bubble wrap for protection and all three dolls turned up safe and sound.

edit: actually, my swap box was about $50 and it weighed 1kg. Are you just shipping ponies? It's always best to take it to the retail store for a qoute. That's what I do.[/s]

actually. disregard all that, it's like, months inbetween shipping stuff for me. I'm probably all 9 kinds of wrong

Auspost will increase prices of some services on 22 October.  See Here:

http://auspost.com.au/about-us/price-changes.html

Registered post international prices will decrease.  Its easy to use the Registered Post merchandise satchels to send overseas.

Also the 250g price break will be removed on 22 October so break will now be 0-500g.

Also the $9 USA civil aviation fee imposed in Dec 2010 for items exceeding 500g will remain.

Far as Reg Post International, the items have limited tracking, they can be tracked on the International destination site sometimes, but not on Auspost site.  They can however be tracked by ringing 131318 or calling into a local outlet.   They are also insured for $100 and covered by paypal etc.

For local, registered post is $3.20 ( if you are selling alot buy a box of 50 labels and receive a nice discount)
Prepaid parcel post satchels ( currently $7.20 for 500g) have parcel tracking also. Make sure to lodge them over the counter at an outlet to receive your proof of postage.  Do not put them in Street Posting boxes. ( paypal will not cover)   Price of satchels will rise on 22 October ( see link above)

hope this helps
