How to remove glitter from blind bag ponies...?
« on: October 01, 2012, 04:40:40 PM »
Hi hi pony people!

So long story abridged:  I was betting the boyfriend that I could find a pony that he thought was cool enough to be part of his toy collection.  When he was helping me find the blindbags, he saw the design for Royal Riff and thought he was kinda cool.

So obvs I bought him one the next time I came across him.

Our only problem is this.  The glitter pattern, in the sense that the eyes and symbol are uncovered and the rest is patchy, really bugs us.
So what he and I want to do is remove all glitter BUT the mane and tail.

I've tried going at it with nailpolish remover, and even scraping with my nail, but it's a long process that doesn't do much.

Any tips?

Pure acetone works better than nail polish remove IMO.  But I have found I had to break out my exacto knife and go at it... very, very carefully.  I'm sure others might have better advice.   I've heard boiling them can loosen it up but I've never tried it.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I'd be afraid to try anything given what can happen to G4's who are exposed to certain chemicals. Are blind bags made of the same plastic?

One possible easier solution is to wait for Wave 6 of the blind bags, where another Royal Riff will be released, but he's colored like a regular pony instead of clear and glittery. :) (He's powder blue with a white mane and tail and white symbols.)

I'm trying to do the opposite and remove glitter only from the mane and tail. Goof off is working very well, but be careful because it takes off the symbols and eyes, too. My problem has been getting it out of all the crevices in the hair, I don't even know where to begin with that.

I would think a mix of the above - its a different plastic that seen on regular ponies so boiling in hot water should loose some of the glue but that will take the glitter of tail and mane as well. Therefore your only options are pure acetone or glue off or some super glue removers - you ll need to be careful as they will remove eyes and symbol however and its not going to be a quick job unfortunately.

I actually got him noteworthy too a couple days ago, but he likes the translucent/deep blue of royal riff way better.
He/I have decided he is going to amass a small collection of musical note themed ponies.  :silly:

Me likes the idea of combining suggestions.  I'll try soaking it in a little bit of hot water to soften, then nailpolish remover to get it off.  Maybe look for some glue off stuff?  Craft stores I'm guessing?
Using straight acetone would make me twitch though, plus the smell!

Yes craft stores or some large supermarkets with stationary/craft sections carry it as well. If you try superglue remover as another option you can find that in most hardware stores or again large supermarkets.
