Hello all,
I managed to repair a broken SHS earring (the little part which was broken off was still there) and I wanted to share with you how I did.
Those parts usually are too thin to be glued back together and actually last, so I tried "stiften" (that's what it is in German, English could be "studding", "repair using a stud" or something like that. It consists of drilling a hole into the plastic so that a connection piece can be fit in to both ends. I didn't even have to use glue, although I could have used some for additional fastening, if there would have been any need.
This is what I did, along with the results:
Broken earring - oh no!

The drilling tool and holes made with it:

A paper clip had just the right size... also showing how much I left sticking out - I possibly shortened it by a millimeter while fitting it in, but not much:

The result! It doesn't fit as well as it would have with glue, but is 100% durable as it is now.

If anyone has remarks or ideas how to do even better, please lmk. :3

Amazing!! You can hardly tell that it's been modified.

Thanks for sharing your repair method! I should consider this more often with repairs and customizing where glue doesn't want to hold.
-
AWESOME! I wouldn't have thought of a tiny paperclip as a good source for the connector, wow! I thought you had to buy tiny specialty screws or something! ^_^ She looks as good as new!

That is pretty smart! And looks good too.

In english this is usually called 'pinning', and a common technique for model making especially where you have to join heavy parts together with a small point of connection. Good job!
-
Ingenious, and very well done.

oohnice!

That turned out really nice! Do you mind if I add the info to my website?

Great idea! Definitely a method I will be trying out.

Great job! :)

Well done! That's really great thank you for sharing. I need to fix a G1 Baby Stroller wheel. It's so sad. If I could find a tiny drill I would definitely try that!

Fixing that exact earring on a SHS is why I actually joined MLP arena--but the dangling piece has been lost for some time. At least I'll know how to attach it if I ever find it! ^.^

Looks great! And wow your SHS is beautiful!

Great job! :)
