I Saw a Guardians of Harmony Commercial

...and I am not impressed.  Generic movie trailer music, movie trailer-esque text, static imagines of the figures, and footage from the show.

Maybe I've been watching too many old Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony ads where there was original animation, an actual jingle, and kids playing with the toys.  This feels like a commercial meant for adult collectors (particularly bronies collectors who seem being dramatic and mature makes it cooler) rather than kids.  Make some animation of the Wonderbolts and Shadowbolts going at each other and switch to kids playing out an aerial duel.  Don't make it look like a generic movie trailer.

My impression is that they didn't have the actual figures ready in time (the pictures they show of them are really CGI mock-ups) and they just had to cobble something together, LOL.

I ran across it on Youtube.  I can't believe something saying "Coming Soon" wouldn't even have prototypes ready.

Still, it's a really boring ad for a supposedly "Action Toy" line.

I saw it on Youtube too.  I agree it wasn't a very good commercial. Maybe it was like . . . "Intern's first baby project" or something.   I'm curious if they'll actually run it on TV.  Personally I don't think they will, it just isn't sufficiently exciting and doesn't show off the toys enough.  Youtube is free, so they can upload whatever there and if it's not that great, no big loss.  But actual TV time costs money.

My first thought when I read they didn't include kids is they were trying not to gender the toys in any way. If advertisers are aiming something at girls and use kids then they need to include girls otherwise girls will think it is not something for them (this is actually very true). But at the same time they feel anything they aim at boys can't have any girls in it because boys think girls are "icky" (not as true anymore but pretty entrenched thinking in the marketing business). So if something is for both better to not have kids in it at all in their mind.

I agree it's really silly to think like that in this day and age but marketing folks aren't exactly the most enlightened. They still think it's like when they were kids and girls had cooties.

I saw it too, and im surprised they only showed images of the stock photos instead of showing the toys in action? Because ya know, they are "action" figure toys!? xD Its like they didnt even have to toys yet (because all MLP's past commercials have had kids playing with the actual toys!) so they put together whatever they could throw together in desprate attempt to advertise! Lame.

At least the toys will be funner than what they seem like in the commericals! Im still excited as heck for this toyline to be released in stores!

They could have even done a stop motion with the obvious disclaimer that they don't actually move on their own on the bottom.

It really seems like that's what it is. It certainly isn't a very professional commercial. Are we sure this is even an official commercial? I would barely notice it if it were played on TV.

What it was, was cheap.

Someone spent very very little to whip that together.  A high production commercial costs big bucks, especially if they use original actors or animation.

*sigh*. Yes, I have had to learn not to look at comments.  I just don't understand it.  If it's a G4 commercial, why even bring g1 up?  If it's a g1 video and you don't like g1, why waste your life and time leaving comments?  I just don't understand trolls.
