Keeping G4's in a box?
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:53:05 AM »
I see a lot of people on the sales thread selling their G4's but they have been deboxed? I guess I am treating them like they will be like the G1's eventually and keep them in the boxes. I learned my lesson with the G1's when i ripped them all open out of the boxes when I was little lol. What do you guys think? Keep them in the box?
Looking For these to complete my G4's!!

I received my first G4 ever from a member here boxed and I dont want to open it...although I'm very tempted!

She's good for displaying for now though

Interested in what others opinions on this are though!  :)

I have deboxed my FS Pinkie Pie, Pinkie Pies car and my blind bags, everything els is in box  :P I like it better that way. for the same reason you do plus that they look really nice in their boxes and you dont have to worry about losing accessories!

I de-box everything LOL I am like an excited kid at Christmas!!  I love styling their manes!!  I will try and make clothes for them at some point too!!   However, that said, I understand the reasons behind those who like to keep MIB.  Even now, the ponies are worth more MIB than on their own.  If I had the money I'd buy 2 of everything, that way I'd have a set MIB which will gain more in value than my de-boxed set which will satisfy my lust for un-boxing my ponies  :satisfied:

For me there is a very large difference between G1 and G4. While there were some collectors back in the 80s they were of a much much smaller number than now - most toys were purchased with the intention of them being opened and played with. Now a large number of MLPs make it straight from shelves into the hands of collectors. This ensures that the numbers of MIB/MOC G1s and G2s will always be much lower than those of G3s and, even more so, G4s.

We can see with G3 what happens when collectors collect a current toy - you end up with lots of ponies still in brand new, in box conditions. And I am sure the same will be true of G4 in future years, in fact with so many people keeping ponies in box, I wouldnt be surprised if when it comes to ebay in years to come more MIB ponies show up than their loose equivalents.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I always thought I'd never keep anything in its box. But recently a kind friend got me a G3 Rainbow Dash from a store clear out, and she'll stay in her box for now. I doesn't have anything to do with devaluing her much though, her hair is just pinned up so nicely in the box that I feel no need to mess with it. She looks really pretty this way.

Value doesn't really factor into my collecting (Well, given, the cost at which I have to buy collection pieces does. Not much room in my wallet currently.)
Sure, it's fun to know a pony or toy I own is worth a lot, but if all these toys were worth 50 cents a piece I would still want them just as much. So if I feel like taking what I buy out of the box, to play with it or display it, then out of the box it goes, and I don't much care if it's worth less afterwards, since this is what allows me to enjoy my collection.

Needless to say, there is nothing wrong with keeping toys boxed, or on their cards for whatever reason. It's just not for me.
The most important thing is to make sure the way you collect brings you enjoyment.

I unbox them.  I don't have the room for ponies MIB, and I like looking at them out of the box!

I almost always debox my G4 ponies, but sometimes I keep the box or the card it came on. My hope since I was little was to save my ponies for my kids in the future, so I don't plan on selling them.

I did, however, leave my Zecora in her box because she is so special and her box is very decorative and pretty.  While I don't want to ever sell her either, it might be fun a few decades from now to look at her all nice and new in her box. :)

I think that its all up to the person that has the pI ponies. Yes they could be worth more down the road. Just have to give it time to see what happends to them. I like NIB ponies the most anyways. :)

Nah, debox them! I like my ponies to interact and bond together. I don't buy MIP, except new ponies, and if I did, I'd have to re-sell for them to stay that way!!
