Is there any hope for her...?
« on: August 29, 2012, 11:51:44 AM »
So I recently found one of my childhood ponies--Merry Go Round Sunnybunch! I was delighted until I tried to put her on my display shelf and realized why she was my least favorite of my childhood ponies.... she doesn't stand on her own. :(

This doesn't seem to be an issue of the plastic getting squished over time. I don't think it's something I can fix by putting a pen between her legs for a few weeks. It seems to be a problem with the mold itself. The left front leg that is pointing backward seems to be almost a full inch shorter than her other legs, so it doesn't even touch the ground. Because of her pose, she's way off balance and falls over every time.

Is this common with Sunny Bunch? I've never seen another in real life--for all I know, they all fall over!

And does anyone have any suggestions? Other than propping her up on another pony, I did think of that already. Right now it looks like Tassles is helping her get home after a night of a few too many. XD
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!

I'm not sure of a cure, I usually do exactly what you are doing- propping her up against another pony!

I hope there is a solution!

Could you weight the diagonal leg so she doesn't rely on the shorter leg for balance?

That's strange.. Mine doesn't stand either :/ All I've been able to do is prop her up against another pony or the side of the shelf.

if your willing to open her up id agree on weighting the stable side of her body..another option is to  make a lil clay standing block for the short leg to nestle onto kinda a crutch but not really...personaly id go with weight

I would try heating the plastic and sticking a fat marker or something wide like that (maybe a DVD case or the handle of a brush?) between her legs and see if it helps. You never know, it might solve the issue :)

Make her a shoe from white-tack! :D

None of mine do this, I've had several Flower Bouquet and Sunnybunch ponies pass through. They are a little nose heavy but I've not seen mould deformation like that before.

WOW you guys are awesome, you thought up some great ideas that never would have crossed my mind!! I am going to try to weigh down her other foot and see if that will counterbalance.

That's strange.. Mine doesn't stand either :/ All I've been able to do is prop her up against another pony or the side of the shelf.

Hmm maybe one particular mold was done incorrectly so there's a bunch of poor Sunnybunch out there who can't stand up! D:

The mould was recast for the MGR ponies - obviously for the carousel saddle and it elongates the back and one of the back legs to, as Dusky says, make them a little nose heavy. In all that have passed through this house its probably 50/50 on who will willingly stand and who likes to dunk for apples.

Without holding the supporting leg down some how [with pin tac or something similar] underneath to literally connect the hoof gently and superficially to the surface she is on] I am not sure how to fix her as unfortunately I have tended to give up on making them stay stable and simply sold on the drunken versions.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

What I have done with tipsy ponies is fill the diagonal leg with little marbles (from a floral store), then filled the leg with triple thick and let it dry.  An oral syringe works well to add the triple thick.  I have one franken-pony that is a Majesty body and a Melody or Firefly head.  That one I needed to fill all 3 legs that were touching the floor.

I think adding the weights could really help.
