She’s beautiful!  I hope they continue with the unofficial series!

Just a quick little side note- my husband bought Miss Painter, Miss Teacher and Miss Chef in Northern Ireland years ago.  It was a Stuart Miller store they came from. No music ponies, but they also had Springly and Springdy at that time.

The choice is yours, but when we have mail arrive here, the outer envelopes and boxes don’t even make it in the house right now.  They are stripped off outside or in the garage for larger things.  The ponies or items that arrive here are put where they can be enjoyed, but aren’t handled for at least one week. Hands are washed after mail sorting... but we have family members here that are 88 and 89 .

Pony Corral / Re: Pony collector statues?

I really love anything with the ponies, and I have many figurines.  That being said, the Hamilton figures failed as a line because of two major things that intertwined for bad sales.  The first was the sculpt on them.  Collectors that may have been willing to buy them at the time were ridiculing them.  Comments such as ‘Firefly looks pregnant’ abounded.  The second is that most pony collectors were not into merchandise at the time.  It is only in recent times that a fever has taken up interest in merchandise beyond the toys.  Anything truly breakable is still not of wide interest.  Combining Snowbabies and ponies was not a great mix, because Snowbabies is a rather small niche collectible... at least near where I live. If a line of figurines were to be created, the best route of success would truly be if they were nicely detailed ceramic or porcelain, roughly the size of the porcelain figures, and made in a $10-20 range.  I can see music boxes, picture frame holder, a trinket box and single figures being very popular.  Put an old favorite like Firefly, Medley of Applejack on a Dream Valley-esque frame, or a box to contain jewelry and add the theme music.  Single little porcelain or ceramic figures would also likely be of wide interest.  Take for example, an addition to the original porcelain collection of Diamond Dreams, Blueberry Baskets or So-soft Twilight.  Much of the success would depend on the choice of character.  I would steer clear of the typical $40-$50 anime bust size that is popular to display in the comic shops.  There aren’t enough collectors to make those of true interest to a retailer.  Kotobukiya figures are okay in that they have a wider base of interest outside the US and they also appeal to the anime niche.  Even with those, the secondhand prices are dropping a lot already.

40 years of mostly happy memories.   ^.^
For me, it is as Taffeta mentioned, 1982.  It was my birthday in November that year when I got my first pony.  Since then, pony series has brought many friends, taken my mother and I across the US, over to France, England and Scotland too.  Countless hours trading, searching flea markets and resale shops have passed.  Many of my ponies are priceless and treasured gifts from family members and friends now gone.  Different gens don’t bother me.  I have favorites, but I love them all- save Pony life, which jury is still out on due to the commercial song choice and animation style.  The toys are okay.
I’m hoping to get a little local friend-style group together a few times a year, starting next year, but with my parents being 89, and 88 now, and Illinois being horrid, I have to wait and see what time brings.

What is happening is a complete house and collection room tidy... dusting and cleaning.  There are far worse ways to be quarantined than with a pony collection!

I love your pictures behind your collection shelves.  :)  It’s really clear that you adore the flutters and wingers, and you’ve really displayed them nicely! It’s also nice to see the HQ flutters in with the group.  The way you’ve draped the carefully-curled tails down over the edge makes them display splendidly!  Love it!

Wanted! / WTB (or trade for) Birthday Surprise G4 sets.
« on: December 21, 2018, 11:34:01 PM »
I’m looking to buy or trade for a couple of G4 sets that are available in the Canada TRU stores.  They are Birthday Surprise sets.  The first has Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie.  The second has Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Twilight.

If you are able to get either/both of these and want to trade for or sell, I’d love to work with you on it.  I have many extra ponies available from all four gens, but also am happy to simply purchase.   :)

For Sale - For Auction / Massive Pony extras Sale in Wisconsin 12/1
« on: November 24, 2018, 03:32:03 PM »
Jazzmatazz (Liz) and I are going in on a booth at a flea market at Rock County Fairgrounds in Janesville, Wisconsin on Dec. 1st. It is a Saturday and begins at 8 A.M., and goes until 3 P.M.

1301 Craig Ave, Janesville, WI 53545-2534, United States

I have *several* hundred extra ponies that will be available there, G1-G4, with ponies and merchandise from both the US and UK.
A very significantly large portion of them are still in packages.  Almost all will be at or below original shelf price.

About half of the items are pictured in my Instagram account.  I’m not sure how to link it, but the name for my account is sugarberry.rana.

Due to rapid changes from Alzheimer’s in my father and my mom’s increasing physical requirements, I just don’t have much time these days to trade often.  I’m still hoping to have a pony meet here locally next year, but at the moment it’s too difficult.

I have other things available too, including a large monster high dollhouse set and a full size drum kit with snare, bass, and toms.
Liz will have an assortment of other toys, perhaps ponies too.

Pony Corral / Re: Are the playskool pony cars out yet?

I love that Lemon Drop is included as a Playskool pony but wish she didn't come with the whole playset.

Oh so agreed, Ponyfan!     That playset is adorable, but huge.  All of them are really cute though.  Now if only they'd make more of the original characters into G4 brushables...

 ^.^  You're welcome GypsyTails!
One other quick note that you probably already know (but really should be mentioned just in case!)- if you do use spray paint, or other decorative items such as colored felts or cloth, be cautious about leaving ponies displayed in contact with them for any length of time.
Tiny circles of white felt under pony feet will protect from varnish or paint without harming your ponies, or alternately a little piece of clear plastic (even from a sandwich bag) will do the same for you.  Here's another idea for you too:
I finally bought a huge coffee table for my PE two weeks ago.  It's out of the box for the first time in roughly twenty years.  :)  Bought a chunk of pony fleece to put over the table, and there's a plastic sheet over that which PE sits on.  I bought a second, very thin plastic sheet to put over the top to protect from dust (and kitties).

Any time an item is altered, its highest value goes down a bit.  The only exceptions to that I can think of are in antique cars and some works of art.
Now as to a friendly suggestion- the shell of Paradise Estate is not terribly hard to obtain in the scope of pony collecting.  It is the pieces and the pool canopy that tend to be more valuable overall.  Take care of those, and make the shell look nice to yourself.  You'll be happier in the long term, have years of enjoyment, and the pieces will hold the value you've invested.   :)

Haven't seen them here yet, but Walmart and Target both had the older ones on 1/2 price clearance when I was out yesterday.

It would be a great template Chelsea!!!  Just keep in mind that even though the animation is stunning, and the lead artist is tops in the field of animating horses, it is still a developed style (primarily one person's style).  Too many wonderful artists put too much pressure on themselves to match someone else's artistry, and then they wind up getting frustrated and quitting, or worse- belittling their own achievements and style.  I'd actually suggest a combination for you to learn on.  Use 'already animated' horses to see the lines and figures after the cleanup artists have finished, but also look at the different breeds and shapes of live horses.  Begin with pencil and/or charcoal and try to picture the basic dimensional shapes of your horse heads - not just the outlines.
Even in real life they (more often than not) come out looking disproportionate, so don't get too frustrated.   ;)  Here are my two from the front as very quick examples:

Pippin is my miniature.  You'll see how tiny his ears are to his head in comparison to Twilight.  She's a standardbred with massive ears and a very long nose.  Because she's bred for racing, she has a very different set of features (not just size) than Pippin does, with smaller eyes proportionally and much wider nostrils.  Have fun experimenting with drawing all sorts of horses.  Spirit was a great film, and it highlighted some different head shapes, but they were all typical mustangs - short legs, stocky, barrel-chested for endurance- but drawn with more 'flowing' hair than the original wild mustangs usually had.  There are still wild mustangs now, but they're actually quite well-cared for- I lost my farrier to them several years back and he is a ranger now that works preserving their lives and also their habitat- hahaha!
Anyways, You may find you prefer Andalusian, Arabian, Clydesdales or any number of other breeds.  ^.^   Find your style, try always to draw dimensionally, and most importantly- have fun.
