SS Pony Stained by her Hair
« on: September 14, 2016, 05:07:37 PM »
So I just received a SS Ribbon I bought on eBay and when I opened the package I noticed her face has been stained by the chartreuse in her hair!

Her flocking is PERECT otherwise so I'm reluctant to mess with it, but does anyone know a good way to remove it? Or how stubborn a stain it might be?

Hrm, I don't know if there's a way to remove that kind of stain :/ I think it's permanent, though I'm curious if any members here do have any ideas for removing it. Did she have the stain in the auction photos and/or was it disclosed?

This happens a lot with chartreuse haired ponies unfortunately :( I don't think there's a way to remove it either.

No advice but I like her just like that, if the flocking is nice, that's what's important.  No need to take chances!

My Best Wishes has that on the back of his leg. At least I'm assuming since it's where his tail was pressed against his leg for I would hazard a guess of about 10 years? His flocking is perfect as well though. I haven't found a way to remove it without flocking damage either.

I'd probably just leave it as is and say Ribbon decided to get a face tattoo lol. Or if you can, display her in a way that doesn't show it off.

Careful sunfading will remove it, but with flocking, I don't know.  Keep ponies with chartreuse in stable environments of low moisture and a temperature of 65f-72f to keep the dyes in her hair from activating any further.

You could also try giving her hair a rinse in vinegar.  ( She won't smell afterwards, don't worry )  Vinegar works as STOP in dyes and other chemical processes, and is least worth a go in keeping the dye from continuing to stain the pony.

Absolutely stalking this thread in case I come across this in any of my chartreuse-haired ponies...I hope you're able to get it out if you decide to try!  :yikes:

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm bummed nothing will likely fix it but it's not the end of the world. Luckily I think I can style her hair in order to hide most of it. Maybe I'll try a vinegar rinse so it won't get worse/affect any pony she ends up near. She'll fit right in with my other slightly wonky ponies haha!

I had one rare case. Surprise SS had that happen. I just hand wash gentle in warm water and dial bacterial soap. I rinsed in cold water. It is not 100% better but it was a huge improvement.

Would oxyclean do the job?  I haven't run into this problem (yet) but I might so it would be good to know.

NOOOOOO.  Oxyclean will make it bleed SO MUCH more.  Do not try at home!

I'm a yarn dyer so maybe my input can help. Soak her hair in vinegar but not her flocking. The vinegar will help set the dye so you don't want it set in her flocking. I'd gently wash her flocking with cold water and a gentle hand soap to try and rinse out the dye. Heat will also set the dye (and could remove her flocking) so you could also use hot water mixed with vinegar for her hair but not her body.  :)
