Title: Baby surprise with two different colours of balloon string?
Post by: Edana85 on May 15, 2021, 10:54:35 AM
I have a question about my new Baby Surprise  :)

I recently found several ponies in a thrift store - yay!  One of them is a baby surprise. She seems to be just the regular Hong Kong version with blue eyes. But the string on the balloons on the rump sticker has two different colours. On one side it's pink, and on the other it's blue.

Or at least that's how it appears to me. Maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there, and maybe it's just discoloration from the sun. It just seems to be quite clear, and there is no other visible discoloration. Or what do you guys think? Does this phenomenon exist, I haven't read anything about it, so maybe I'm mistaken?

Nah, I see what you mean! I'd place my bets on age discoloration

I'd also bet discoloration, similar to Cotton Candy with the purple/pink or blue eyes depending. The red dye could have faded.

This is a fairly common phenomenon, you're not just seeing things. ;) Certain types of pink paint are known to fade to periwinkle blue, likely because the "red" portion of the colour is much more fragile than the rest. Your instinct that it's sun damage is probably spot on. Other ponies' symbols that you'll sometimes see affected by this are Baby Crumpet, Scoops, TAF Fifi, Peppermint Crunch... even some Peachies can have pale blue hearts after the ravages of time. It's kind of cool imo ^.^

Congrats on your new ponies! :)

Thanks for the answer. I thought that might be the case, but you never know  ^.^ Good thing there are many pony-experts to ask.

And thank you. I'm very happy with all the new additions to my collection. Several italians in good shape  :yippee:
