Why dread it?  You're intentionally collecting 30+ year-old vinyl toys.  They age.

I understand that, but Mimic is the pride of my collection and is very special to me. No need for that type of comment, it's condescending and doesn't add anything.

Ah, age spots is what I was dreading. Thank you all for your replies!! I'll be sure to be careful reassembling her after the rust treatment.
If you're packing her away I'd use silica sachets just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps.

I actually just unpacked after a move, so I might put some of these in my pony case, thanks for the idea!

Pony Corral / Little black spots?
« on: June 27, 2019, 05:42:47 PM »
I recently noticed that my Mimic has some tiny black spots. After a cleaning and a magic eraser scrub, they haven't come off and I'm thinking it's pindot/ingrained dirt, but where they are seems like an odd place for it. I tried the hot water+soap+fingernails method in case it is pindot and it didn't do much. I opened her up to check for mold (found the start of tail rust...that's why she's beheaded and tail-less :P) and didn't find any. I'm afraid to try an oxiclean bath/boil due to her chartreuse hair. Anyone know what's doing on and what I can do about it (and should I be worried )?

She has them scattered here and there, but those are the main areas of concentration. She's also got a little cluster around the age/cancer spot but the camera didn't pick them up.

Ok, thank you for the tip! I've always seen acetone listed on cleaning tutorials and such, but I'll look for a better alternative.

Pony Corral / Whitened neck glue?
« on: May 20, 2018, 05:29:23 PM »
I found a few G3s this morning at a flea market and washed them up when I got home. Dawn dish soap wash, 100% acetone nail polish remover for sticky gunk and tougher spots, then a plain water rinse and hair conditioner. I let the conditioner sit for a little while and when I went to rinse, my ponies had a white ring around their necks that definitely wasn't there before! I washed out the conditioner and ran an acetone soaked cotton swab over the white spots but it didn't budge. I'm thinking it's the neck glue, but I've never seen glue turn white before, only yellow. Paradise Palms also has a little bit of the white mystery around her symbol. Does anybody have some sort of idea as to what may have happened?

I got my items from this collab today so I thought I'd go ahead and share some pictures  ^.^ Nothing of me wearing them though (yet?). I got the eyeshadow palette, highlighter in Starflower, and lip colors in Pinwheel, Moondancer, and Flutter Valley.

Pony Brag Arena / Re: Recent Flea Market Finds!

Thank you everyone! All my new ponies have been cleaned and are currently sitting with some conditioner in.

SS Sundance has yellowed horribly though, so I'm thinking about deflocking. Daddy Sweet Celebrations has had an odd haircut but apart from that is pristine, and anniversary pony is missing her tail ribbons. Otherwise, everyone is in generally good condition.

Pony Brag Arena / Recent Flea Market Finds!
« on: August 19, 2017, 08:37:19 PM »
There are a lot of big flea markets every summer around where I live, and I usually find a few ponies at each, but nothing to warrant a big brag. But the past two I've gone to I've had amazing luck at, so I thought I'd share!  ^.^

From the first, a few weeks ago:

The Pretty Parlor is half-faded, but I couldn't pass it up, especially with all the accessories. I find it kind of amusing that the waterfall playset duck was in the accessory baggie for the parlor, lol

In addition to the pony stuff, I got some Japanese Pokemon cards and a toy of the Blue Lion from Voltron.

From today's market trip:

I just about died when I saw the Show Stable. It needs some serious cleaning (along with most of the ponies), but nearly all the accessories are there and I couldn't be happier.  :accomplished: I also got a GS Pokeball and some more Japanese cards!

Pony Corral / What to do with a Paradise Estate box?
« on: July 04, 2017, 01:56:32 PM »
Hi, everyone. I'm not active on the Arena too much anymore but I just got the majority of my collection back after 3 years or so (long story!) and I'm in the process of cleaning and sorting everything.

When I won an auction for a Paradise Estate a few years ago, it came with the original box much to my surprise! But I don't know what to do with it, but I also don't want to throw it out. Here's the box as it is right now:

I kept it like this in the room I used to have my collection in, up against the wall like that. All the flaps and such are there, but ripped in places. I thought about taping it up but I don't think I have the space right now. I can keep it as-is for now and tape it back into a box when I have more space, but I'm wondering what the community thinks, especially because I have no idea about the possible rarity or value of it. I'm open to all ideas, from not doing a thing to it to making it a piece of wall art!

Pony Corral / Best way to pack/store ponies?
« on: December 28, 2014, 10:21:18 AM »
So my dad's house is being foreclosed (don't worry; my parents are divorced and I'll just be at my mom's) and the majority of my pony collection is over there. I've gotta get my ponies out asap or they'll be put in the street. I don't know how long they'll have to be stored, as there's no room for them at my mom's and my dad's gotta find a place (even then it might be small). Anyways, what's the best way to pack up my collection? Aside from my ponies (mostly G1 and G3) I've got an almost complete Paradise Estate with it's original box that I don't know what to do with either ;n;

Yes, if you don't like the smoke smell then try to find another place for them asap! Do you have any other unused storage spaces in your home?

Yes, I could move them into my current closet, I just don't have anything to store them in at the moment. My dad might have some extra shelves he could give to me, but they won't hold all of them; I'll have to buy some plastic bins for them.

Are the ponies stored in boxes/tubs, or are they out on shelves? I would say if it's possible, you should consider moving your ponies in with you, just to be safe (could you possibly fit them in your closet, or even under the bed maybe?) Though if they are in plastic tubs I would imagine they will be okay and not pick up any smoke smell.

They're all on shelves, not counting the few that are still in their original boxes. Thank you for your advice, I could probably keep them in my closet, but I'd need to find some way to store them all first.
