Title: Reboot and Ruin: Muppet Babies
Post by: Gator on January 29, 2018, 07:14:21 PM
Disney is set to air a rebooted Muppet Babies in March, but without Skeeter.  She is being replaced with a new female character, Summer the penguin.  Many Muppet fans have hoped to see Skeeter become a real muppet one day, but I guess Disney wants to hide her away from a new generation and replace her with a more colorful artsy character.  Sorry Skeeter.  I will miss you.

Awww . . . I don't get why they didn't include both of them?  Like, it's already an ensemble cast.

Sad I know... but I love penguins and I am looking forward to seeing what they have done! It's not like I can't watch the old episodes if the new ones totally suck.  :-p

It's CGI. Instant fail on Disney's part. Plus the penguin doesn't even look like a muppet. It looks like one of those sparkly eyed, big-headed stuffed toys you see everyplace.

I’m actually really upset by this news.  Generally, when a reboot comes out. We still have access to the originals.  There aren’t DVDs of Muppet Babies.  It’s not on Amazon or Netflix.  I have to have a VCR and a working MB video cassette in order to watch the original.  Which, I don’t have.  I know this reboot will be awful in comparison to the original, so I’m legitimately in rage mode because of this reboot.  At LEAST make the original available before releasing a bad remake!

I guess we should all be grateful they're not trashing Fraggle Rock with a cgi reboot. Stupid Disney.

From what I've heard, there's probably licensing issues involved w/ releasing Muppet Babies onto DVD - they used a lot of TV/film clips and getting the rights to those would probably be really hard if not impossible. :s I dunno if there'd be a problem with streaming it though.. I agree with you, though, it does suck that there's no legal way to watch it, especially since this reboot will probably make it harder to search for the original >__<

This makes me think of the Robot Chicken episode where the other Muppets had killed Skeeter in a parody of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Gator, check it out if you haven't already seen it. It can probably be found on Youtube.

I heard that also. I loved Muppet Babies and would love to have a way to watch the original episodes. but it doesn't seem likely we'll see an official release anytime soon due to the TV/film clips they used.  I think there were some Muppet Baby plush toys that came with a DVD with one or two episodes.

I was a little disappointed to see Summer instead of Skeeter. especially since it looks like Disney tried to keep the same looks from the original 80's show but the playroom looked much bigger. I would have liked to see another Muppet if they weren't going to use Skeeter and not a completely new character. I always enjoyed Skeeter and Baby Piggy's rivalry. :)

That being said I will try to catch at least one episode.

Prairie or Abigail woulda been a better choice.

Poor Skeeter, I always liked her.  Will not be watching the reboot in protest.

I will have to check out that Robot Cicken episode.  I don't recall having seen that one!
Ponyfan, I too enjoyed Skeeter and Piggy's rivalry!

Great another freaking reboot to ruin the original.  Skeeter and Scooter were twins weren't they?
Why did they choose to remove Skeeter and keep her brother on there?

It looks like Disney is already started to block Muppet Babies videos on YouTube but I did find this one of Piggy and Skeeter when they were doing Snow White and Piggy kept trying to avoid letting the prince (Kermit) kiss Skeeter.

I have the complete series on DVD. Of course it's a bootleg....

I gave up on MB getting an official DVD release a long time ago. Tracking down who currently own the rights to all those live action clips would be a legal nightmare! They would likely spend more on legal fees and such than they would make off the DVD sales. To Disney, it's just not worth it. If by some miracle it does get an official release, I will buy it.

I found my DVD set at a local convention. I think I paid $30-40 for it. When I bought it my friend that I was with turned to me and asked, "You know it's a bootleg, right?" I assured him that I knew that and explained why we would never see a legal copy.

For the MB's 20th anniversary they released a set of 4 plushies. I think they were Kermit, Piggy, Fozie and Gonzo. I got Fozie. Each plush came with a DVD with ONE episode on it. And each plush came with the exact same episode. So if you bought all 4 plushies, you got 4 copies of the same episode.

Okay, YES. The penguin doesn't look at all like a muppet! She looks like... a Doc McStuffins character? Or something? Anyway, not a muppet.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be watching this show. Give me the original!

Not having cable anymore kind of stinks. But eh, not like I'm missing anything amazing when something 'new' is set to air.  Disney, stop wasting your efforts on new shows and just release your catalog from 80's through like 1995... We don't care about legalities!

You know, Disney re-releasing the Muppet Babies might not be so impossible. They do own Star Wars, Indianna Jones and DC. Or is it Marvel?

I was just thinking about how there will soon be a Disney version of Netflix, and they should release all of their old shows on the streaming service. That would be so exciting! I want to see the old Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Timon & Puumba shows again! And... FLUPPY DOGS?! Can you imagine if they gave us access to Fluppy Dogs again?!
