Arena Tutorials / Setting/updating your time zone
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:22:01 AM »
With another daylight savings time change upon us, you may notice that the timestamps on the Arena are off by 1 hour from your actual time. Here is the simple way to fix that:

Go to "Profile" -> "Look and Layout"
The third setting is "Time Offset", click the "(auto detect)" link...the little number in the box should automatically adjust itself
Click "Change profile" at the bottom of the page

And done!

I know we have a lot of Harry Potter fans here - does anyone have experience with buying robes online? I'm looking at ones on Universal's online shop (https://shop.universalorlando.com/c/Harry-Potter-Robes.html).

What has me baffled is their sizing - I want to make sure I get the right size (and I can't find any Customer Service contact online, only a 1-888 #).

There is a sizing chart, easy enough to understand (I'm looking at either the XX-S or XXX-S size). But what they actually have listed to order doesn't match. Pic attached (size chart, and size listings on the side).

Size chart shows XXX-S up to XL. Adult robes have the XS-XL sizes, leaving (you would expect) XXX-S and XX-S for Youth robes. But the actual youth page has 3 different sizes that don't match the chart (XXXS, XXXXS, and XXSM). How is anyone supposed to match those?

Arts & Crafts Corral / your very own Hogwarts Express
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:29:51 AM »
This year I took the plunge and joined the Desert Bus craft-a-long (more details in my Off Topic thread about DB), with one of my plastic canvas Hogwarts Express trains. Nearly 3 feet long! This thing took about 80 hours to stitch and assemble (that's not including the time spent on designing all of the patterns). All made of plastic canvas and yarn.

It'll be part of DB's silent auction (https://desertbus.org/silent-auction/39) - exact date still to be posted (I'll updated once details are up). I'm nervous and excited to see how much it'll go for! Plus it might help bring in some exposure to my Etsy shop. :)

This is a revised pattern from my first Hogwarts Express, but very similar. The engine is a tissue box cover, the coal bin is a candy dish/napkin holder/etc, and the passenger car lifts off to reveal a 3-compartment storage area.

On to pics!

Anyone else looking forward to Desert Bus? :bounce: (www.desertbus.org) Starts Nov.12!

Every year this online comedy group (from BC) plays the "worst video game known to man", ie: Desert Bus. (literally drive in a straight line for hours, but the bus pulls to the left) It's a charity even for Child's Play - the more money they raise, the longer they play. Last year was nearly a full week, and raised $638K. It's a lot of fun and they do hilarious stuff to kill the boredom along the way.

This year I joined the craft-a-long - 100s of crafted items available for auction. I created a 3 foot Hogwarts Express train, which will be part of their silent auction. (details and pics will be posted soon in the Arts & Crafts Corral)

I'm re-doing my pony room and purging some stuff here and there. In the purge pile are all my G3 backcards and pamplets. I'm wondering if there's any interest in them, otherwise they'll go out for recycling.

I'm looking to get rid of them all at once = 1 lot of backcards and 1 lot of pamplets (combined if someone wants both), I am not going to do these individually. Just asking whoever to pay shipping, which could be costly because of the weight.

Backcards
around 185 cards, some duplicates, no list of which ones, all are missing the pony points, most have the front piece missing but pony's name is written on the bottom (card name was used for labeling ponies)
box weighs 13 lbs / 5.9 kg

Pamplets
around 300 pieces covering 24 designs, many duplicates, most are folded (as they were in the boxes)
bag weights 3.3 lbs / 1.5 kg

Off Topic / Facts About Crows!
« on: February 13, 2015, 07:14:25 PM »
This is a joke email I got today - I don't often share or forward them on, but this one was really funny. :)

Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.  A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu.  The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.

However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws.  By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.

MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.

He very quickly concluded the cause:  When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger.

They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck."

Makes you wonder why you gave me your email address, huh?
