I'm so excited for the new releases. We only just started getting some of the retro releases like Posey and Tootsie in New Zealand. But I hope that means we'll get some of the other releases like the anniversary plushies and Celestial Ponies.
I think she's Milky Way, yeah, unless they've changed it from what they had at Toy Fair. which I wouldn't complain if they did, I much prefer Nebula to a recycled name XP
yeah the placeholder is so weird!! I really think they just used whatever G1 images they found first, haha. It's odd they're even using a placeholder when we KNOW they have a proper stock photo of the actual ponies all ready to go... online listings are so weird :P
Oh man, I don't know XD They're all sooo cute. Maybe Glory or Moondancer... really I just want them all :silly: I wish they weren't blind boxed, but at least there's none that I'd be disappointed to get! hehe.
Oh man a movie or Tales set would be awesome.
Absolute dream would be Big Brothers, or some of the cartoon exclusive characters (I'd kill for a figure of Tirac, or Sting the bumblebee). TAFs would be adorable but I dunno if the symbols might be a bit too fiddly to do at this size (at the least I'd expect them to simplify them a bit if they did do them). Ooohh, now my head's buzzing with ideas for these *w*
As far as TAFS...just as long as they're not eyeless... :devious:
Holy moly! This has definitely pulled me out of my "break" from ponies! Those Celestial Ponies are so PRETTY! And I saw the plushies and SO want one!
MLP Tales with Miss Hackney as a Chase figure might be an option. That would be interesting, don't you think?
They're animated so in blind bag form it's possible. I don't see them making retro versions of those ponies in full though.
I'm certain now that those placeholder pictures on the box for the RaMC are the pictures they used either to promote their retro release sets or the ones from the boxes. Which makes sense if they aren't ready to use their own yet.
There's part of me that things 40th anniversary is the finale, though, at least for the pony line. I suppose we'll see what happens, but it wouldn't surprise me if they branch out into blind bags more, given their other products in that area, and that might be the bulk of it going forward.
Are there other sets that they didn't release, or are we only dealing with prototypes that look different (like the first tooth baby sundance which was a repeat pony if a different release plan).
The final Celestial's product number is probably 35344, based on the others, but I can't find anything for her at the moment.

Someone on Facebook posted comparison shots of the Basic Fun Minty from a couple years ago versus the new Basic Fun Minty, and they have slightly different eye styles. It's hard to describe, but with the first set the eye paint kind of overruns the original eye socket mold. (Probably to avoid the lizard eye thing that the Hasbro retro Collector ponies had . . . Molds tend to shrink a little when they are recast.)
The eyes do look cuter on the newer set so I guess I'm buying all of them again, ha ha! Oh, also the two Mintys had slightly different hair shades. One had white hair, one had more silvery-white.
I'll get back to you on that one after I put on my tinfoil hat :P
I've been thinking about making a custom set of BF Twinkle Eye collector ponies so it all works out.

"They want more green ponies, they say! But you give em a green pony, and suddenly it's lizard this, Bigfoot that!" - A Hasbro exec, probably :lmao:
I love the RAMC figures. :lovey: :lovey:Same :)

The Amazon listing for the RaMC set has been updated with proper photos of the figures!

It's soooo good to see them properly. They're SO CUTE! :lovey: :lovey:
Re: the Fair photo - yes, I think there's a good chance the Celestials turned into FFs and/or Colourswirls, too. They're similar enough ideas that I'd be surprised if it was a total coincidence, anyway.
I found the old thread for these pics, that has a slightly bigger/higher quality version of the photo:
https://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=380943.msg1566772#msg1566772
According to that thread, the ponies with socks, blazes etc were called something like Patchwork Ponies or Quilt Ponies.
Repro Tales ponies would be lovely :)
I think in the US, if you have a Spencer's or Hot Topic, they'd likely carry some pony stuff.
The Twinkle Eyes were stocked at independent toy stores, sporadically at Nordstorm Rack I think?, at Cracker Barrel, and at Meijer. I don't have any Cracker Barrel or Meijer in my state so I ordered online from small independent toy stores. Were the TEs not listed on Amazon in the US?
I'm REALLY glad they're being listed on Amazon this time, that will make them so much more available to people who couldn't otherwise get them.
UK peeps - I found the Firefly plushie in John Lewis London today, I think she was about £14.99. Didn't see Moondancer or Glory anywhere, but it could be that they'd just sold out of them beforehand (I was just in London for a quick overnight trip, so idk). I totally didn't expect to see these in shops over here so it was a nice find!
(And darn... she's waaayyy cuter in person than I was anticipating... noooo, I don't have room for these...!! >_< :silly:)
I found a comparison pic between old and new Fizzy! https://www.deviantart.com/littlekunai/art/Original-and-Repro-Fizzies-965351668
Great shot, thanks for sharing!
Those show stable box designs are really well done, they could reuse it without the 40th anniv logo further down the line imo. Maybe even make one based on dreamcastle and paradise estate. And a nursery inspired box for the babies.
Basic Fun posted pics on Facebook of the Rescue at Midnight Castle set and the Celesita ponies so we can see what they look like in the boxes. I took screenshots since I know that not everyone has a Facebook account. Is it okay to post the screenshots here as long as Basic Fun gets the credit?
Ponyfan
Can anyone tell if the artwork on the box is new or it they're using recycled images? Some of it looks like I've seen it somewhere before, but I can't quite place it.

I think it is new, but you're right, it seems familiar. First thing I thought of was one of the more obscure DVD covers we've had over years for the MLP Movie '86. I could be misremembering though.
Bit funny how the Celestial Ponies' packaging has a sticker pointing out the 40th anniversary brush. Makes me think of Lisa Simpson's "But she has a new hat!" because sure, that standard brush with a sticker on it is the grail in that box!
Oooh is this the first time we've seen the Ember figure?? She's so cute and tiny!
I'm convinced that if the G1 retro stuff continues, it's more likely to follow the blind bag line, as BF have a lot of experience in that area and theyre the kind of things that will sell well.
The Celestials...argh will need at least one MIB, won't I.
Is that rainbow a little handle on the box?? :D
I like the blind bags, but am still confused why Starflower xD.
Maybe Starflower was hiding out in the Dream Castle basement as anyone reasonable would do in a monster attack. :)

I hadn't even noticed the "brand" thing. Weird.Maybe Starflower was hiding out in the Dream Castle basement as anyone reasonable would do in a monster attack. :)
:silly:
Yeah, I assume it's just easier/cheaper/whatever to use one of the designs they've already done (I dunno how this stuff works but I assume they have to run things past Hasbro, I don't think they'd just get blanket permission to redo any/all G1 characters.. if that makes sense). You'd think they'd use Confetti cause she's closest in design to the RaMC pony, but I think Starflower was the only rainbow pony to appear in the cartoons? So maybe they wanted to stick with the 'toon theme... or yeah maybe someone on the team just liked her. :B
Gusty isn’t in RaMC either. Maybe the blind boxes are just more general since they don’t mention the special?

Gusty isn’t in RaMC either. Maybe the blind boxes are just more general since they don’t mention the special?
Yeah, but Gusty might be explained because of her popularity.
Starflower, meanwhile...
I mean, she's a really lovely pony.
But...she doesn't have cult status.
Fizzy might've made more sense? Unless they want to keep it to the earlier stuff rn (Gusty is a year prior iirc)
If it was hosted on Facebook, they tend to change their URLs a lot, or something.
Hopefully it's okay if I post this here :) In case anyone was wondering about differences between the 35th and 40th anniversary ponies...
I only have the two versions of Cotton Candy, don't have the other five, but yes there are a couple of differences between the two releases :) I took a bunch of comparison pics, I'll stick them under a spoiler cut so as to not spam too much.Spoiler40th ann. might be slightly more peachy-pink than the previous release, not sure since the lighting in my pony room wasn't perfect when I was taking these.
35th ann. is on the left, 40th is on the right (with the ribbon around her neck)

Some slight differences, though with CC's spots it's kinda hard to tell how much of that is intentional ;)

Personally I think the new one has a sweeter expression.

The biggest/most obvious difference I could see is the eyes. Their eyes are completely different shapes, 35th ann is much more of an almond shape. Their eyelashes are also all different, especially the top two, which are a LOT smaller/thinner than the previous release.
And a little bonus... because I like comparing things...

CC releases over the years. Can you tell who my favourite collector pony is? :P
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
25th ann. CC's hair is THICK, it's a real curtain of hair covering up her NDS eye. Everyone else's hair I could tuck behind their ear, but hers wasn't budging.

Poor 25th CC is more than a little wonky, and she kept wanting to tip over (I'll never understand why they gave the 25th anniversary ponies flat feet). Still love her, though :B

25th, 35th, 40th
35th and 40th have the exact same hoof stamps. The only difference is that serial number thingy on her front right, but that's different for every pony. (What does this signify again, anyone remember?)
Still kind of disappointed they decided against the "40th" symbols that showed up in promo photos, but I'm glad I got her anyway :)
Now if only I could fit all five on the shelf together :p Gonna have to figure out a new place for them!
If anyone in the US is looking to preorder the single minis, Toywiz has them up as release in September for 4.99 each.
https://toywiz.com/my-little-pony-mlp-15-inch-mystery-pack-1-random-surprise-mini-figure/
It also answers how big they are: 1.5 inches.
I can't get the picture to embed unfortunately.
Wow, I love seeing the Cotton Candy comparisons!
I can't wait for the Celestial ponies and the mini ponies, the RaMC boxed set is amazing. The art!! Here's the back of the box:

OMG the RaMC box is so gorgeous ;__; I keep going back for another look. I love all the minute details, Tirac's hair is so fluffy!
Hi all! I am unsure if anyone else has already posted about this - I didn't see it when I looked through the rest of the thread, but I may just have missed it - but for Australian pony fans, the Celestials and RaMC set are available for preorder on Amazon AU (current estimate of release sometime in September).
Impressive packaging, as always.
And now two of the pearlized baby ponies have a pearl bodied mom! Great idea!
I've seen a picture of the back of the box and it says something like "Blossom and Cotton Candy love their tiny new friend Glory", it's cute.
I'm so tired of seeing the collector ponies being the anniversary go-to. C'mon Hasbro you can do better than that.
I'm so tired of seeing the collector ponies being the anniversary go-to. C'mon Hasbro you can do better than that.
I am too, but I mind less with Blossom and Cotton Candy. While understanding that the collectors were the first six and really important in the US release, most of them just didn't have a status in the UK. They were in the fact file but honestly, I still don't know how Minty was sold here aside the imports from the US at the very start :/ Butterscotch (Gymkhana), Snuzzle (Grooming Parlour) and Bluebelle (individual pony sold definitely through Argos) were never really marketed as going together, either. So all the hype about them as the 'collector' ponies and anniversary ponies here is not very meaningful for nostalgia purposes.
BUT Blossom and Cotton Candy are different - the first set that actually mattered here was probably the set with them, Bubbles, Seashell etc, because they were in stories and so do feel nostalgic.
I don't mind having more of those.
Hasbro is obsessively fixated on the concept of a core group. There is no intervention strong enough to help them.
I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that the 40th anniversary symbols on the collector ponies didn't happen. At least they were different, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of them.
Dollymix wasn't ONLY the Collectors, though, there were 15 other characters in the set.
I'm not bothered by these characters continuing to pop up. They were the first six so it makes sense to give them attention. There's a "reason" to pick them, specifically, whereas with most other sets... Like if you picked, I don't know, the second set of princesses, you could say "well why THIS set, specifically", if that makes sense? You don't have that with the collector ponies. I'm not a huge fan of the "core character" mindset but I can understand it. It does make things easier, marketing-wise.
It'd be nice if they included more characters too, but I see why they've become the go-to set. it probably helps too that they've got nice, simple designs, so they're easy to produce.
It'd be interesting to find out who exactly picks the characters for these sort of releases, if it is Hasbro or someone else.I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that the 40th anniversary symbols on the collector ponies didn't happen. At least they were different, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of them.
Me too! I definitely think the designs could've been improved, but I was excited at the idea of there being a significant difference between the 35th and 40th releases. I know there ARE some slight differences between the two sets, but ngl I do wish they'd gone for the more obvious differences.
They were the first six so it makes sense to give them attention.
This makes me wonder who the target audience is in Basic Fun's MLP business model.I'd rather they picked another set too. But, I'm sure in the past five years there are plenty of new little ones grandmas can spoil with ponies from her childhood. I know I would be doing that.
If it's kids, then there sure are more appealing and more gimmicky ponies to grab there attention with. If it's adult collectors, they have the first six for sure, or either don't want them.
It's an odd thing.
The Groom and Style Ponies?
I think Basic Fun is deciding, since Hasbro customer service told me in particularly dismissive tones that it was nothing to do with them and I would need to contact BF about anything relating to their release (going back towards the start of the release).
I also think it's that fact that they're the first, so it's their anniversary. That makes sense, if you buy into the 1983 start date. I never have, because I know that there's empirical evidence of people getting them for Christmas 1982...but since that's the year they've settled on, it's the 'official' first year of release per Hasbro. They are the ones who are 40 years old.
If it was being done from a UK perspective, the set would be the groom and style ponies, as they were in everything media here in/around 1985. Four of them had two releases (Posey, Bow Tie, AJ and CJ). Lickety Split had an extra release in Europe as well I think. There was the song tape too.
But from a US perspective, I'd think that the RAMC set - which they're also now honouring with the tinies - would be more iconic? I've heard far more US collectors talk about having one of the ponies from the earth/unicorn/pegasus set from that year than I have one of the original CP (remembering CC and Blossom were also released in that period).
But I think there's something to the idea of a core release spreading from Hasbro to BF in terms of marketing.
The Groom and Style Ponies?
The y3 earth ponies. Hasbro UK's list calls them Groom & Style ponies because they were the first set here to include curly hair.
The UK toystore G3 has this set and said it had an expected release date of December. It might also be set to release in the US with a similar timeframe, but not be listed yet.
It looks great! I hope we get pearly versions of the other Collector ponies too, but if it had to be only two then I'm glad it's these two, because they had pearlized babies.

Woo, congrats LadyM! :)
I've seen a few of the blind boxes popping up on eBay UK lately, does anyone know where they're coming from/which shops might be stocking them? :o I haven't been to any toy stores for a while.
I'll have to swing by my local Target at some point this week to check for them!

Toywiz's prices for everything are absolutely ridiculous, idk how they keep going.Agreed
Basic Fun have said that it's a Target exclusive on their Facebook page. :(
(I just saw it earlier on my feed).
We don't even have a Target :( But the price on the Moondancer plush has come way down on Amazon. I'm thinking of getting her.
Basic Fun have said that it's a Target exclusive on their Facebook page. :(
(I just saw it earlier on my feed).
It will depend then whether other stores in other places pick up the line or if they don't. I mean, the Stranger Things AJ was originally a Target pony in the US, wasn't she? But she's been widely available online here, at least through Amazon and such.
In G3, Target exclusives didn't make it overseas, but in G4 they appeared as store exclusives in other places. BF are not Hasbro, but they would also do well not to upset their international market by making it impossible for people overseas to get a particular line. I'm guessing that's why AJ ultimately made it overseas...but we'll see.
I won't be paying US shipping rates, so if they want my money, they'll have to put it on UK shelves ;)
PonyFan, I found them in Target today (the same Target I checked last time, even lol). Thanks for describing exactly where they were! The package is a bit smaller than I imagined so it's very easy to miss.
No dice at my Target! I checked the website and it said that they were in stock so I'm going to place an order for store pick up for tomorrow and see what happens. I saw the spot on the shelf labeled for them so maybe they just haven't set them out yet or something. Hopefully my order for pick up will work! Otherwise I'll just order one to get delivered to my house.
excitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing now come to Canada my pretties! fly! fly!
*ahem* excuse me.

Someone on Facebook said the Celestial ponies are listed in Canada Toys R Us's system!
Look who arrived!!!!! I ordered all 4 but for some reason I guess they are coming individually. Anyways, here is Nova!!
My thoughts:
1. Whoever designed this packaging did an amazing job it is GORGEOUS! I'm not sure how well this shows up in the photos, but all the gold is metallic. The Celestial Pony art is also on the back. Another advantage is that it is easy to take the pony out and put her back inside if you want to display her in the box but still be able to take her out and enjoy her.
2. The pony!! Her antenna is movable which is fun, and her paint quality is very nice and clear. She has soft and shiny hair and she feels like she is made of nice quality materials. The swirls are painted on rather than an effect of mixed plastic, but it doesn't really detract from her overall look and I can see why they went with the paint in terms of making sure there was a more consistent appearance among the ponies.
3. My verdict is that Nova is really really cool and I am thrilled that I have the rest of the set to look forward to! Highly recommended!!!

I saw that the pattern is very different from HelloGoodbye's too. Fortunately I love both Novas. I unboxed the less marked one and she looks more stripey from the front. :)

I didn't even realize until now, but there is almost NOTHING I want more than for Basic Fun to re-release the Tales ponies. They never even came out in the US, where the show aired!!
I think Tales ponies are a neat idea. Mimic is still on my wishlist though.
I didn't buy a 2nd Cotton Candy and instead got the pearl version. I did get the 40th Butterscotch. I love, love her hair color. 35th is a bit too bright for me.

I decided on just two of them. Milkyway and Aurora. I don't know why amazon has Polaris $10 more than that other three.

I was frustrated by this too, and I think it must have been a typo that slipped through? There's no reason why she should be more expensive. I actually submitted a "report incorrect product information" form (it's under the product info in the listing) - I selected "I have an issue with the price" and then chose "other" which gives you a slot to write in and tell them you think they made a mistake. Maybe if a bunch of people do this, they might fix the price issue?
I was able to order all 4 Celestials on very.co.uk they're £16.99 each. Hoping mine turn up tomorrow. Thanks to you I've done the same!!! Love that I can pay with Paypal too!!!
Why are the Celestial ponies now $25 on Amazon instead of $15?
Edit: It looks like it's $25 for Polaris and $15 for the other 3.

I doubled checked and Polaris is listed as "shipped and sold by Amazon." I was buying something else there yesterday and got a notice that Polaris' price had dropped by a few cents.me neither!! im gonna wait on them until she goes to the same price as the others.
It doesn't make sense to me to charge more for her than the other 3 of the same set.

Because Amazon sucks.
Which sucks for everyone outside the USA as it may be the only way we can get them.
I think it's interesting how both on amazon here and in the Toy Barnhaus Toymaster stores I saw down south, they only had Nova. Lots of Nova. But only her. Whereas the one in Putney had the whole lot.
Why Nova on her own? What's that all about? :/

From what I can tell, she doesn't seem to be as popular as the rest, so maybe she's shelf-sitting?

No...the number that they had suggests that they just had a crate of NOVA for some reason. THe store in Putney had eight - two of each, which suggests two boxes of four, one of each pony. But in Sutton and Staines they both each had four Nova. That would be weird unless they had only been sent a box of 4 Nova.
Seems like she's been distributed much more than all the others. Amazon UK only had her up for sale to begin with. Not sure about now. I haven't looked. :/
That's interesting about Nova's stripes changing. I like the white stripes better than the pink personally.I do too and I'm glad I have two. But now I feel like I'm going to need the pink striped one because... no good reason. I just do.
Ponyfan
I originally ordered my set from Amazon several weeks ago, and had white stripes Nova. After hearing the pink stripe hype, I ordered another from Walmart, and I got another white stripe 😩😭Oh, that's a bummer :(
I kind of think I like the white stripes a bit better! But it's always fun for something to find. Reminds me of dark Bowtie.
I wonder if Nova's stripes changing are similar to BF making the first run of Rainbow ponies scented and then changing them to regular ponies after the scented ones were all sold.
Ponyfan
Have you guys heard about the possible Medley, Twilight, and Applejack plushes that were sighted?
Have you guys heard about the possible Medley, Twilight, and Applejack plushes that were sighted? We never had those as vintage plushies so I'd be all over them if they came out!!! The only other retro plushie I bought was Snuzzle because SHE was never a vintage plushie either!!!

Ponyfan
Possible. I don't think that release ever made it here, so I wonder about whether the white striped ones are being hoofed off to the UK while the pink ones appear in the US.
We'll see what happens going forward!
Does anyone know if Basic Fun will be coming out with anymore ponies? Not plush ones either? I just love having something to look forward to! :)me as well! yesterday i was looking through amazon and thought i saw a new g5 set, but i forgot what it was!! im gonna look again when i can, i want to find it!
Something seems off about Twilight though. Is it the streak in her hair? It looks more pink than purple to me.
ohhh another variant?? :o Interesting
I found the Celestials and blind boxes (a full box of them!) at Forbidden Planet today! They only had one Nova so I snagged her, luckily she was the white stripe version! :D Definitely prefer this to the pink stripe ver.
I got one of each blind box, so here are the codes:

Here's where the code is, on the bottom of the box under the barcode. The code is 216231ZD, the number in bold (circled in the above image) is the one you need to pay attention to!
Codes:
1. Starflower
2. Cotton Candy
3. Gusty
4. Moondancer
5. Bubbles
6. Spike
7. Ember
So if you wanted Moondancer, for example, the code would be 216234ZD.
(I'll add a link to this post in the OP so it doesn't get lost in the thread)
Thanks to Taffeta for confirming these had codes to begin with :D I was speeding through the shop since it was close to closing time so knowing there WERE codes really saved me a lot of time.

Probably a stupid question, but were the Celestials ever found in major US stores or are they still pretty much just Amazon? Was hoping to ask for them for Christmas but getting nervous with all the talk of variants and would really like to see them in person...

I haven't heard of any Celestials in US stores.
the Milky Way I ordered this week came with pink stripesThat sounds so pretty!
I'm hearing elsewhere online that Books A Million has the blind box sets, so if you have one near you go check it out! I'm also hoping that we may see these pop up in the "weird shops" like TJ Maxx or Ross, since that's where I found a couple of the Basic Fun TE ponies! (Only Sweet Stuff, but hey! A win is a win!)I keep forgetting about BaM, I might swing by mind sometime soon just to see if it has the blind boxes
I've also seen the Celestials on the Walmart app, so it's worth a look if Amazon if sold out!

Flowersinherhair, Basic Fun sent me a list of specialty shops by state that was supposed to carry these, but this list never mentioned Books a Million as a distributor. In my state, Georgia, they only listed like six shops that would carry them, with only one in driving distance for me. That store said that they had them on order, to be shipped early Nov., and that they would call me when they came in. They never called me, I found them at Books A Million, and so I said forget that little specialty store. They were probably discriminating against me and threw out my number because I’m an old fat dude who collects toys. I deleted the email unfortunately. Maybe if you contact Basic Fun they can send you the distributor list?
I do have the CT and FL list because I texted a copy of those states to a friend.
What stores are selling the aj, twilight and medley plushies preferably online?theres a few popping up over the place, some say out of stock and some say back order :D
Does anyone know if we are going to get any more retro releases?

I came across something on facebook today. Something about more rainbow ponies. Not much said other than that.

Great news! Maybe it's something other than the standard early years rainbow ponies. Weren't the twinkle eyes labeled as rainbow as well in the early stages? I'm hoping for the rainbow curls!!
Really?Does anyone know if we are going to get any more retro releases?

Yes I also read that they called the twinkle eyes ponies are rainbow also. And there is a new mold coming out also! :) Wonder when we will see them?

*waits for all the Mimic conspiracies to begin xD*
I would actually rather have Masquerade. *Waits to be pelted with fakies!*
Iirc I think they sold the TEs and sometimes the Gusty/Heart Throb set under the rainbow tag for some reason, even though the boxes said different. I think it was to do with pricing scale, here at least...since rainbow ponies retailed here a bit higher.
...Although more than anything I want Powder. She's the one left from the ponies I desperately wanted as a kid, but which Hasbro failed to sell here. I would be absolutely made up if Powder happened).
(Watches Basic Fun successfully rerelease the whole G1 line while Hasbro flounders with fifteen versions of Sunny).
On the Rainbow Curls - a small problem is that BF haven't mastered curly hair for any set yet.
And while Rainbow Magic has a deep emotional family significance for me, the fact she'd have that stupid name on the box would completely ruin the impact.
I feel the same about the Princesses, too. I adore Princess Pearl, but the idea of a box with Tiffany and Primrose on it makes me cringe.
Sweet Stuff was bad enough.
Wonder what happened to the flutters and babies from years ago at toyfair.
Oh, Sweet Pop would be amazing! She was also never sold here, and though I have no childhood nostalgia attachment to her, I've always thought her colours were beautiful.

I just checked and Polaris is showing up as in stock on Amazon again.

Yeah, a few sets have been proposed and never materialized... Flutters, babies (where did they show the babies? I don't remember those :O), Flower Fantasy (although I think there was a theory going that these became the Celestials?), and the playset with Lemon Drop (and Brandy!!! tbh I'm most upset about Brandy being cancelled - he was in the Strawberry Shortcake's Pupcake mould and was SO cute!!!).
I understand why the playset didn't make it (I'm under the impression Peachy's set didn't sell too well? Maybe I'm wrong) and I'm not too surprised the Flutters got canned (disappointed though), but I'm still shocked Basic Fun haven't released any baby ponies yet. I'd definitely have expected those over the Twinkle Eyes. (not that I don't love the TEs!)Iirc I think they sold the TEs and sometimes the Gusty/Heart Throb set under the rainbow tag for some reason, even though the boxes said different. yeah I've seen this happen with other toys, it's confusing/weird but I think it means that the later set (in this case, TEs) has replaced the earlier one (Rainbows)? like, they're the same "assortment" being offered to retailers, even though they're different characters and/or a whole different series. I think.(Watches Basic Fun successfully rerelease the whole G1 line while Hasbro flounders with fifteen versions of Sunny).
:silly:
Mimic would be cool and all, but I'd rather have Galaxy, Locket or Sweet Pop <3
I wish there were more "unreleased" ponies but Hasbro pulled the plug on MLP in Year 10 before they had many more designs past the drawing board, I think.... can someone confirm that?
Well, there were the Yarn Ponies...

Just imagine, somewhere out there that flutter hideaway prototype could still be collecting dust in some dark corner of an attic...
The two prototypes for schoolbag are one in the first tooth walking pose and one in a baby boy pony pose with feathered feet. (And the pictures are on my site :P)He looks so cute with the feathering.
https://www.etherella.com/scrapbook2/baby_schoolbag.htm
Can both be seen here.
One appeared on an insert, the other on the backcard iirc. Baby Schoolbag is officially male in canon material, even though he was ultimately made in a female baby pose.
I agree, though, Celestials aside, there hasn't really been a big buzz around any other unproduced ponies. The one I still want is Paradise, but that won't ever happen given that nothing from the UK is likely to make this cut. It's sad but there we are. Maybe too complicated given the UK or European copyright of some of the designs?
Could they make new characters? I guess they could. I guess they could also make G1 versions of the M6 etc (Hasbro would love that, but I admit, I would buy a Sunset Shimmer, LOL) or something like that.
But they're doing a great job cherrypicking their way through G1, honestly. THey wouldn't still be interested in this if they weren't successful. We would never have had the Celestials if they hadn't sold the earlier ponies well. It says so much for the staying power and appeal of G1 years after they were on shelves. It's just a shame Hasbro didn't want to embrace that. G1 was and remains different from all the other generations because of all the trial and error and unknown. Forgetting those origins and those experimentations is kind of sad.
Jem had a lot as well, though...Hasbro really did go through the stages with their development here. The difference between Jem and MLP in this sense is that a lot of the prototypes that survive are in collector hands (the Stingers, certain outfits, a limited run of Rockin' Romance dolls). And of course, being dolls, IT were all over making lots of different characters in outfits based on key scenes, episodes, whatever. Even though Jem as an entity was a lot less successful than MLP, the 'collector' market has been successfully established because of that. Whereas there's never been anything like it really for MLP.
Oh, just some trashy "here's Pinkie Pie as a statue or something" junk. Yeah nope.

Time to stage a heist! Dream Valley 's 11 reporting for duty. :silly:
Yeah, HQG1C did the rainbow pony (in two diff. poses). Their ver definitely fills the void for me, but I wouldn't say no to Basic Fun releasing her too ;)Eyeless Majesty could be anywhere...listening...plotting... lying in wait...
I don't like eyeless ponies, either. It just looks so weird and wrong, especially when the eyes ARE moulded on. I've never understood that trend :/
Wallpaper Majesty doesn't bug me, she would if she was a regular Majesty though - I think the regular versions should be widely available/not convention exclusives. I hope they do make a regular Majesty sometime.
I agree, a TAF set of 4-6 ponies would have been amazing. Even a re-release since many of them are harder to find. make them glittery and people would have emptied the shelves - a sparkly Yum Yum with PINK hair? OH YEAH
Majesty was such a weird choice as a standalone... even her name implies that she might come with, IDK, a castle playset... LOL
I will accept that Stranger Things UpsideDown Applejack made sense as a "nostalgia-tinted" remix.
In theory, the UK, though I've not seen them here - only down south.
I'm getting mixed up with the Celestials - help me out please - which ones have variants? I know Nova has white vs pink stripes but what are the others? Has anyone made a comparison guide or whatever? I checked MLW but they don't seem to have articles for the Celestials at all ^^;
Question for the people in the countries where the blind boxes have been released: how well are they doing you reckon? (I'm keeping my hopes up for a 1986 movie themed set!)
I still hope Basic Fun reconsiders axing the flutters. I was thinking that - if sold separately instead of in a 3-pack - these may have been the best selling set of the retro line: I'm going by the assumption that many collectors would have picked up several ponies to get replacement wings for their vintage flutters. Thoughts?
I was surprised too. I thought that I'd probably get a pink striped Nova. It looks like there's a layer of paint missing on her symbol though.
Some people in Canada are finding the Twilight, Applejack and Medley plush in Walmart.
I also noticed today that the brushes with the Celestial ponies matches their mane/tail colors.

I saw on social media that some of the BF Gingerbread ponies are starting to get the yellowing "age spots" already! No way!! that's so bad :whoa:  why?! :what: even the originals didn't get them that quickly, and there are still some originals without them. Basic Fun Gingerbread should've been good for years and years. I'll keep checking mine now  :lookround: :yikes:

UK peeps - if anyone's still looking for them, I found the Basic Fun blind boxes at GAME today! :) They only had two (i.e. not a whole box or anything) but figured I'd pass the info on anyway.
The new plush haven't shown up on US Amazon yet. I gotta get AJ.
The new plush haven't shown up on US Amazon yet. I gotta get AJ.
Funny thing is, they did. I have them on my Amazon wishlist- they were up for preorder for a few hours, then temporarily unavailable for several weeks, and now the link is gone entirely unless you had it saved. I'm a bit worried about what that means for US distribution :(
I'm just going to post this here instead of starting a new thread for such a tiny bit of info, since it's related to BF, hope that's okay.
Hasbro's latest earnings call mentions "We saw positive early results in Q1 from LITTLEST PET SHOP, now manufactured and distributed by Basic Fun." No word of MLP in the entire transcript. Bit strange, since retro G1 has been going for 5(?) years now. They did say that "Hasbro is a Games, IP and Toy Company in that order"
I've been to several stores walmart target and outside of Dollar General there is NO my little pony ANYTHING in them anymore here in Kansas atleast the part of kansas i'm in. not even g5 ponies i only found those in dollar general and its the first runs.
It's as if MLP doesn't exist anymore :/
The new LPS are definitely wider spread than the BF ponies. I've always had a hard time finding the ponies, but the LPS I've found tons of stock of in every toy/"nerdy" shop I've been into in the past few months.
I know the BF line won't last forever... but I hope it lasts at least a little bit longer
