I got my two boy guineas from a breeder. She was VERY adamant about not mixing the sexes because of irresponsible breeding and what not. Gave us the speech multiple times.
Doesn't seem like a good breeder. It's very easy to tell the difference between males and females, and I'm not even that experienced. I have never had males.
G1, G2 and G3 collector. I also collect a bunch of other stuff. (Too much..)

I find the sexing pretty much the same with boy rabbits as with boy Gpigs. http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm
I love guinea pigs, the squeaks and chirps and squeals are just awesome! Such cute sounds and animals and so cuddly...

I can PM you about how to tell a male and female guinea pig apart if you wish.

Edit: NM, the link the above poster gave is really thorough about it.

You will almost certainly have to trim nails, so pick up some nail clippers while you're shopping.  Best to start training them to accept this kind of handling/gentle restraint as soon as possible, because overgrown nails can be crippling.  It's better to clip often but very small amounts, to avoid cutting into the quick.  If you've ever done dogs or cats, the process is similar.

You can also have a vet trim their nails. It could be a lot less of a hassle for both of you that way. Guinea pigs don't take kindly to nail trims or at least mine didn't.

You can go to the vet to nails done of course, but it's going to cost you an awful lot of money to keep them properly maintained in that case.   In my personal experience, it's a lot less stressful on pets if you condition them to accept trimming at home.

I used to trim my rats nails and the nails on my mice. It was easy if they were sitting still and upright and you could just slide the baby-sized nail clippers up to the nail without having to turn them upside down or hold them in any way. They never suspected a thing. Usually only got a foot done at a time.
