MLP Nirvana / Re: think this one's colombian but she's weird to me...
« on: March 16, 2021, 02:14:30 PM »
How does her size & mold characteristics compare to Italian shy pose ponies?

I would not doubt that she is a Colombian pony based on colors, eyes, paint quality, etc. It is possible that the factory had multiple mold sets & one happened to be larger. In that case, that pony may have been cast out of  the master mold they used to create subsequent molds off of.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Have you ever found a Nirvana pony in the wild?
« on: February 03, 2021, 11:16:25 AM »
Back in the late 90's there was a kids' consignment shop I used to visit often. The lady who ran it kept all the ponies in a bin behind the counter. One time I found a German Baby Lemondrop in her bin of ponies! Back then any non-US baby ponies were a really big deal... so you can imagine my excitement! Even all these years later, I consider that one of my luckiest pony finds.

I haven't added many Nirvana ponies to my collection for several years, but I would like to find a Spanish Sugarberry in Tootsie's pose.

US customs are a mess right now, and have been since the start of the pandemic. I had a package sent from Greece in the end of April. It arrived in US customs on May 26th, and didn't move again until July 3rd! I've talked to a few friends who have had lengthy delays with US customs over the last few months, as well. At this point, I'm trying to avoid any international buying & selling until the mail is more reliable.

For people still shipping to & from the US, it may be worth looking into shipping options that don't go through USPS (such as DHL, UPS, FedEx) if those options are available. I did successfully receive an international package via UPS without a delay.

Pony Corral / Re: MOC Mommy charms

I had Mirror Mirror and Water Color Baby Misty in my childhood ponies so I think one of them is probably the pony that Little Helper came with.
That makes it harder for me to figure out which pony my Mommy/Mummy Charm came with. It's times like this that I wish I still had my childhood backcards.

If you only had Mirror Mirror & Watercolor Misty from that year, your charm would have come with Mirror Mirror. ;) The Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies didn't come with charms.

In the US, the charms were randomly included in with some sets for a limited time (ie not the whole year's production run of a specific pony). They were included in ponies shipped to retailers during the 2nd quarter of 1988 (April - June). There was a tv commercial advertising the charms as a special promotion to go along with the rebranding of MLP which included the "I'm a My Little Pony Mommy" jingle.

The charms came with:
- Peek-a-Boo Babies
- Magic Message Ponies
- Brush 'n Grow Ponies
- Sundae Best Ponies
- Summer Wing Ponies
- Newborn Twins (2nd year)
- Princess Ponies (2nd year)
- Twice As Fancy (2nd year)

I have a Hasbro Marketing book for 1988 that outlines this and other promotions they planned to offer for other toy lines that year. So this is "straight from the horse's mouth" so to speak. ;)

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Ebay Option to request partial refund?
« on: December 04, 2019, 12:59:36 PM »
eBay doesn't offer a partial refund option. If a buyer & seller agree to a partial refund in their private discussion, a seller can go into their Paypal account & refund the buyer the amount of choice, but if eBay has to step in to decide a claim, they will only offer return for a full refund.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Price Check please for Dutch nirvana coms/brushes

I've bought a few Dutch combs in the range of $20-35 (USD) each. I may be interested when you decide to sell. :)

But the most amazing collection to me will always be Helen's.  She just preferred to keep a low profile...but everyone who knew her knew.

I visited her just a few months before she passed away & even after selling a large portion of her collection, she still had more ponies & pony merchandise than I have ever seen in any single collection before or since. She was very private about it, but there's no doubt in my mind that she had the most impressive collection ever.

The reseller also posted about that Rapunzel multiple times in the "Vintage Toys & Action Figures" group on Facebook while he had her listed as an auction on eBay as well (first week of April). Apparently the group admins kept removing his posts, then he would just post again. At one point he even posted several pics of himself kissing the pony & rubbing her on his face to "prove he had her in hand".  :X That group is mostly made up of guys who collect action figures, so he was getting an assortment of negative replies on his multiple posts. The way he kept posting over & over, and the language he used in posts & replies definitely didn't give any indication that he'd be a reliable person to send $800 - $1,000 to. :|

Pony Corral / Re: How to tag ponies for vending (without ruining them?)

I like to use the pre-made string tags, cover ink with tap, then tie around the top of the tails rather than the pony’s neck.

Another possibility is something that didn't have enough postage to begin with.

Postage rates from USPS increased January 27th as they do almost every year in mid-to-late January. If the package was in transit around the time of the increase, it may have had an extra fee tacked on upon it's return.

I really doubt that the intellectual property rights would be up for grabs to mass produce unedited versions off a VHS tape. Hasbro surely still holds the rights to their most popular 80's cartoons for DVD releases, airing on Netflix, and any other possible uses.

Gusty was my childhood favorite, so I'd definitely pick Gusty if I could only have 1. Realistically I'd probably get both Gusty & Gypsy, but not reverse Gusty.

I like quality enamel pins... A LOT. I already collect a lot of things, so I have to sort of keep it under control, but if I go on a trip I will usually pick up a pin as a souvenir before I'd buy a mug, keychain, magnet, etc.

« on: February 24, 2018, 02:28:36 PM »
Not exactly part of your question, but another shipping option is using a Priority flat rate padded envelope. It costs +/- $35 to send Priority international & you can fit 4-6 adult ponies in it. ;) It's just a little cheaper than the basic priority cost based on weight. You have to order the padded flat rate envelopes off usps.com, as most post offices don't carry them.
