[Please edit the title out of the screenshot] - Noasar

Guess if I were being generous I could say maybe they uploaded the wrong photos!

Oh goodness...

I saw someone list a common G4 pony as 'Rare Vintage' earlier and nearly faceplanted into my desk.

Where are these people getting their prices and "information"??  Even if it were a complete, mint set of TAF--which it obviously isn't--I don't think it would be worth $700...

I'm tempted to go and totally lowball it.
Looks like they have a Nirvana? German princess? One of those.

Maybe if they were second set. And Mint ON CARD.

Edit - actually, maybe they did upload the wrong image and they're actually BABY TAFs. That might make more sense.

Also wondering whether a screen print of an open auction breaks the link rule or not, because the title is visible...

Hmmm...
>finds mint set of TaF ponies, the complete set.
>it’s almost 700 dollars without whatever shipping madness there is.
>not even TaF ponies.
Even if it was a genuine twice as fancy complete mint set, I couldn’t justify spending 700 on it. Maybe if I had 700 million dollars I could. Can you report items on eBay as being not what the title describes? Like an image to title discrepancy?

One of the report reasons eBay lets you pick is “Fraudulent listing activities” (which is under the category “Listing practices”). I’d say this falls under that.

I'd suggest messaging them first before bringing it up to Ebay.

I saw the listing this post was originally about - it was hilarious! We still get Posey with faded hair marked as a rare white haired variant here. And Cotton Candy as Rare. Just Rare. Urgh...

omg I've seen that before!! Or other faded-hair ponies too, like I saw a G3 Minty labelled a rare variant once because of her 'white' hair >.<; It's scary how little research people do ahaha!

Reasons why ID sites should carry correct information. :P

Although that one I thought had been thoroughly debunked by now o.o I haven't seen it on an ID site in years.

The prices are not typical.  The auction is funny simply because the ponies pictured are not the ponies described, and neither the ponies described nor the ponies pictured-  EVER go for those prices. Ever.

In general, any of the G1 MLP pictured sell for cheaper than even the "retro" remake ponies...

Post Merge: September 18, 2019, 10:53:40 AM

Well we had better hurry!  Only 3 hours left!!!

I was thinking of contacting the seller to tell them the names of the ponies and advise that they are not particularly rare nor are they mail order nor are they twice as fancy-  but rarely do people enjoy hearing that I'm afraid.

The pegasus is the German variant of Princess Pearl, unless I miss my guess, which would make her on the more desireable end of the spectrum...

Oh yeah!  Well there you go. One pony at least worth $20 or so-

The rest of the ponies... probably less than $10 each.

I will confess that I did break down and email the seller with the names of each ponies, and let her know that they are not "Twice as Fancy" or "mail order" -

I tried to be as kind as possible since maybe there was some kind of listing error (like maybe the original or intended photo was of 6 MIB baby mail order TAF ponies...  which would appear to e the only reasonable explanation for the price)

The only one worth any money there for sure is Starglow, and even she's not enough to put that group sky-high, being anywhere from 60-75.

Well they lowered the bid. Its at $99.99 starting bid now....

Okay they are just being intentionally ridiculous.  I gave that seller the names of all the ponies- he can search "sold auctions" to see what they sell for.

Looking at the rest of his items, it looks like a dude selling a bunch of random stuff- not a pony person. Obviously this is one of those people who saw one auction ending (probably for MIP TAF babies) and thought he hit a gold mine cuz he had 6 ponies to sell..

There is no helping some people.

I just looked at the "relisted" auction- he didn't even change the title- he is still misrepresenting the lot as vintage mail order twice as fancy ponies.

I am honestly perplexed why he would relist without even correcting the clearly inaccurate information. So I guess it wasn't the wrong photo after all.  Just some guy who thinks his old ponies are worth a fortune.

You do run into them every so often.  It always cracks me up when I get someone at a yard sale wanting a fortune for some common pony like Firefly.  "This is a valuable collectible MY LITTLE PONY" I'll here.  Um, yes, but... not THAT valuable lady. Like $10 valuable on ebay, tops-  and generally people want to pay a little less at a yard sale...

Frankly I think he would have a significantly higher chance at selling his ponies if he would just call them by their REAL names.  I think even a "beginner" collector can look up "TAF" or hopefully do some price comparisons and realize this guy is out of his gourd.

I had someone literally look up prices of something on ebay, right in front of me, when I expressed interest in it at their yard sale, and rejected my yard sale offer, claiming she would like basically ebay price. Guess she realized they weren't as valuable as she thought and took em back inside.

Also this guy should be reported for fraudulent listing/information.

Looks like they fixed the image? Assuming the one I've found is the same listing.

edit - Oh oops no I searched using the phrase "twice as fancy" and it was an actual TAF listing by a different seller. I found the one in question now... almost $100... yeah that's too much money...

At least its not the $1000 they originally tried selling it for. How much should it sell for, considering that German Tiffany and Starglow is in it?

I think German Tiffany was worth at least $50, but I'm not positive.  I don't think it's a bad price as Starglow regularly sells for $50 as well.  Princess Sunbeam is also there and she has all her tinsel forelock . . . I would think she'd be worth about $15 - $20?

One thing I've been seeing is people printing eBay or Amazon listings and posting it next to their garage sale items. Best thing to do in that situation is let them know "if you want eBay prices, then do the work and sell it on eBay"

I imagine within the US Perle would sell for a higher amount anyway, as it negates the need for international shipping. And Starglow is easily $35ish or more on her day in good condition. The others didn't look too bad condition-wise either. I dunno what a fair price for the lot overall would be but I imagine Perle alone would push it up. I don't know how common they are but they had a very limited distribution regionally speaking. I would personally hazard Perle being worth more than Starglow, but then I feel like glowing magic ponies have stupid price tags these days. They were sold globally, it's just not necessary when so many of them exist.

Why the need to sell them with that label...dunno. It wasn't the good till cancelled garbage thing relisting it automatically? Though I guess if the price changed...not so much?

In any case I hope the buyer is happy with their purchase. They looked like nice condition ponies, just not MO TAFs.

On the other note - my response to people who say "on ebay it can sell for x", is, "please feel free to go sell it on ebay, then, because I'm not paying that for it." Reality is if it would sell for that x price on ebay, they'd already have listed it.

Well yeah like I said for those two? Good price. German Tiffany doesn't come on US Ebay often.
Unfortunately that guy gets his money even after trying to scam. It would be one thing had he changed it after being corrected but these people only care about cash. Hopefully they went to a good collector and someone who knows exactly what they are regardless.  :)

Exactly. I hope it didn't go to someone who thought that they were TAFS! (Really you'd think they'd research that before buying but)

But the buyer didn't get screwed over at all, they got pretty valuable ponies for a good price.  Maybe for cheaper than if the seller had just put up an auction.  (Edit:  Actually it turns out it was an auction rather than a BIN so never mind about that part, lol.)

The seller had pictures from multiple angles, there's no way a buyer would think they were TAFs unless they didn't know what TAF meant.  In which case it shouldn't be a selling point for them anyway.

$700 for a fraudulent listing isn't getting screwed over?   :brow:

Not a single one was TAF, none of them were worth $100 individually and there were commons in there worth $20 at most. No. The buyer got screwed over big time by an dishonest PoS.

I guess I can post the link since the listing is closed now:

It almost looks like that's Euro Cherries Jubilee too, which goes for a little more as well. I'm glad they sold for a reasonable price. A lot of times these days it seems people get swindled (based off sold listings) someone had paid $100 for a happy tales pony, which was relisted not long after, my guess based off research. People see these things at such high starting bids and often over pay. My advice to any new beginner is research value. I just got into Furbies recently and if it weren't for my best friend I'd have no idea what good prices are, as I dunno even know where to look for that info yet. The whole thing is just annoying though.

Ooo, could be Euro CJ!

Yeah, I agree on researching value.  A lot of eBay sellers put "RARE!!" in their listing title when they are totally MLP-ignorant and are just trying to use buzzwords to generate a sale.  The fastest way to research is to put in "My Little Pony {pony's name}" and search the Sold listings on eBay.  That will show what people have actually paid for a pony in the past.  Or if the seller didn't list the pony's name, put their photo in Google Image Search and it will probably come up with the name and set of the pony.

It was still a fraudulent listing that the seller made no effort to correct even after being told. That's still dishonest. Its one thing not to know, its another to willfully ignore what someone more knowledgeable tells you just to make a buck. Should I then put a bunch of fakie and cheap g3 babies up for a pretty penny by touting them as a super rare set? That would be wrong. The buyer still got screwed. It is a nice lot that anyone would be happy to own, but not at the expense of being deliberately deceived.

I don't think it's a European CJ. European CJ's symbols are darker, that looks like a standard Y3 CJ with a symbol at the darker end of normal, personally.

While it be a good deal, it makes me sad a seller got cash for being dishonest though. I hope they stop doing that for future listings and the buyer enjoys them.

Yeah, I wondered that too, since Perle is in the lot, and some of the others did have continental releases...but looking at the photo I'm 99% sure that's a normal regular CJ.

CJ is a sort of army pony for me, and she has a lot of different symbol prints in the normal 1985 release, but the European and UK ones have a distinctively darker symbol. After squinting at it, I don't think that's it.

Also, on balance, I am not sure that Sunbeam was sold in Germany, which is where Perle was sold. She was sold in the Netherlands, but that's not the same thing...and Perle wasn't sold in the Netherlands as far as I am aware.

Also I think...and someone in Germany can confirm...but I think Italian CJ is more common in Germany than the European one. I am not totally sure if the European one was sold in Germany.

Ponies can cross borders...but if the lot was from the US, that's a bit of a lot of convenient coincidence for me.

I'd also probably guess from how silky her hair is, that Starglow most likely originated stateside. It's not a general rule but there were some weird things that happened with hair in that year in general when it came to Europe.

Its so weird that so many random ponies would be together?? I'd just assume they came from a specific country together but like you said, some weren't even sold there. (I had no idea about Sunbeam not being sold there, so I wouldn't know)

I think they're basically American with one pony from a holiday or a neighbour who travelled or something. It's easy to overthink it but it seems the most likely given the seller hasn't a flying clue what they're selling xD.

I agree that the seller was dishonest with his listing, but that doesn mean that the buyer was nessecerly screwed over. They could be very well aware of what they where buying, even though the info was misleading.

I'm pretty sure the buyer didn't get tricked-  at least I certainly hope not.

I think most of us are just annoyed that such a dishonest unwilling-to-listen seller made any money at all from his misleadingly titled listing.

It occurs to me I could have reported the listing - it actually violates ebay rules to put names that don't belong in the listing in the name just to attract attention.  I forgot what they call it, but it is definitely a no no.

Ah well. Hope the buyer is happy with their Tiffany.

For those who also want to help with reporting. Report Category = Listing Practices, Reason for Report = Search and Browse Manipulation, Detailed Reason = keyword spamming or misleading title, also "incorrect item condition" for the one listed before this newest one, that one is labelled "new".

It’s a real shame this guy tried to pass all these particular ponies off together as something they’re not and for that price...Because I really do think he’d make a good amount off of the German Pearl and Starglow. Just yanno, as seperate auctions.

But I learned a long time ago not to correct these people. Some time ago I was browsing the Poshmark app because I can fit in some kids’ clothes, and some people do sell pony toys+merch there. And Depop as well. I’ve found some really neat things doing this.

Anyway I saw some lady trying to sell a run of the mill US common release Dancing Butterflies and Sugarberry for $200 USD plus ship. I politely informed her that I have been collecting for almost ten years and that they’re overpriced. To be fair they were both in excellent condition. However she completely blew me off by saying something to the effect of, “I know you’re new but these are collectables, if you don’t like the price don’t buy them” and blocked me. I’m still so angry about it, thinking about somebody who may believe they are really worth that much. I don’t think people should be able to do that, in my eyes its basically a scam.

At the end of the day people can charge what they want for their items, as annoying as it is to us when they go nuts. The difference is overcharging for something you're selling under the right name and description, and overcharging for something you've mislabelled and which is not properly described.

A buyer can easily look at something correctly labelled and go, no way at the price. But a newer collector might be caught out on the description or title saying something it shouldn't.

Of course there's always buyer beware and a buyer ought to do their homework. But sellers should advertise what they're selling correctly :/ whatever price they choose to ask.

Can't stress research enough. Unfortunately that's hard when you don't know where to look for that info. But still the seller shouldn't keep using same title that's completely wrong for every listing.

Yeah, the seller is using these titles almost certainly to intentionally mislead people, trying to claim all of these pony listings are "mail order" and some sort of "complete set". Not to mention having "mint" in all of these listing titles when no single pony in any of these three listings so far have been mint, they're all flawed. These things are definitely against eBay rules, after all, they let you report things for those specific reasons.
