Where are these people getting their prices and "information"?? Even if it were a complete, mint set of TAF--which it obviously isn't--I don't think it would be worth $700...
Can you report items on eBay as being not what the title describes? Like an image to title discrepancy? One of the report reasons eBay lets you pick is “Fraudulent listing activities” (which is under the category “Listing practices”). I’d say this falls under that.
Woah "My Little Pony"s are worth money? I think I have some laying around that might be worth big!
We still get Posey with faded hair marked as a rare white haired variant here.

oh man, is that old rumour STILL floating around?

The pegasus is the German variant of Princess Pearl, unless I miss my guess, which would make her on the more desireable end of the spectrum...
Have you heard back? The pegasus is the German variant of Princess Pearl, unless I miss my guess, which would make her on the more desireable end of the spectrum...
Oh yeah! Well there you go. One pony at least worth $20 or so-
The rest of the ponies... probably less than $10 each.
I will confess that I did break down and email the seller with the names of each ponies, and let her know that they are not "Twice as Fancy" or "mail order" -
I tried to be as kind as possible since maybe there was some kind of listing error (like maybe the original or intended photo was of 6 MIB baby mail order TAF ponies... which would appear to e the only reasonable explanation for the price)
Well they lowered the bid. Its at $99.99 starting bid now....
UGH.Well they lowered the bid. Its at $99.99 starting bid now....
Okay they are just being intentionally ridiculous. I gave that seller the names of all the ponies- he can search "sold auctions" to see what they sell for.
Looking at the rest of his items, it looks like a dude selling a bunch of random stuff- not a pony person. Obviously this is one of those people who saw one auction ending (probably for MIP TAF babies) and thought he hit a gold mine cuz he had 6 ponies to sell..
There is no helping some people.

yeah and he must know something about them if he knows what tafs are. It's so disappointing when people are this money hungry. I just looked at the "relisted" auction- he didn't even change the title- he is still misrepresenting the lot as vintage mail order twice as fancy ponies.
I am honestly perplexed why he would relist without even correcting the clearly inaccurate information. So I guess it wasn't the wrong photo after all. Just some guy who thinks his old ponies are worth a fortune.
You do run into them every so often. It always cracks me up when I get someone at a yard sale wanting a fortune for some common pony like Firefly. "This is a valuable collectible MY LITTLE PONY" I'll here. Um, yes, but... not THAT valuable lady. Like $10 valuable on ebay, tops- and generally people want to pay a little less at a yard sale...

Frankly I think he would have a significantly higher chance at selling his ponies if he would just call them by their REAL names. I think even a "beginner" collector can look up "TAF" or hopefully do some price comparisons and realize this guy is out of his gourd.

It sold
At least its not the $1000 they originally tried selling it for. How much should it sell for, considering that German Tiffany and Starglow is in it?It sold
Looks like they fixed the image? Assuming the one I've found is the same listing.
edit - Oh oops no I searched using the phrase "twice as fancy" and it was an actual TAF listing by a different seller. I found the one in question now... almost $100... yeah that's too much money...

I had someone literally look up prices of something on ebay, right in front of me, when I expressed interest in it at their yard sale, and rejected my yard sale offer, claiming she would like basically ebay price. Guess she realized they weren't as valuable as she thought and took em back inside.
Also this guy should be reported for fraudulent listing/information.
I think German Tiffany was worth at least $50, but I'm not positive. I don't think it's a bad price as Starglow regularly sells for $50 as well. Princess Sunbeam is also there and she has all her tinsel forelock . . . I would think she'd be worth about $15 - $20?So the final price wasn't bad. The whole situation still irks me though... >_< :P

You know what's even worse? The person who bought his ponies probably wouldn't have even done so if not for this thread pointing out German Tiffany and Starglow

I think the Arena gets a lot of traffic. Someone reading the thread could have been like "Oh yeah, I DO need German Tiffany- and can probably sell that Starglow..." or something ;D
I'm not annoyed at the collector- just annoyed at the guy who wouldn't listen and who appears to have been trying to trick people into thinking his ponies were something they were not...
It irritates me that someone got screwed over.Exactly. I hope it didn't go to someone who thought that they were TAFS! (Really you'd think they'd research that before buying but)
But the buyer didn't get screwed over at all, they got pretty valuable ponies for a good price. Maybe for cheaper than if the seller had just put up an auction.
The seller had pictures from multiple angles, there's no way a buyer would think they were TAFs unless they didn't know what TAF meant. In which case it shouldn't be a selling point for them anyway.
They paid $100 total, the seller dropped the price. It almost looks like that's Euro Cherries Jubilee too, which goes for a little more as well. I'm glad they sold for a reasonable price. A lot of times these days it seems people get swindled (based off sold listings) someone had paid $100 for a happy tales pony, which was relisted not long after, my guess based off research. People see these things at such high starting bids and often over pay. My advice to any new beginner is research value. I just got into Furbies recently and if it weren't for my best friend I'd have no idea what good prices are, as I dunno even know where to look for that info yet. The whole thing is just annoying though.

Ooo, could be Euro CJ!
Yeah, I agree on researching value. A lot of eBay sellers put "RARE!!" in their listing title when they are totally MLP-ignorant and are just trying to use buzzwords to generate a sale. The fastest way to research is to put in "My Little Pony {pony's name}" and search the Sold listings on eBay. That will show what people have actually paid for a pony in the past. Or if the seller didn't list the pony's name, put their photo in Google Image Search and it will probably come up with the name and set of the pony.
Ooo, could be Euro CJ!She had darker cherries! Hard to tell though. Exactly! Or ask around. I'm sure people here, the Trading Post, Discord, Tumblr ect are always willing to help.

Hard to tell with the lighting. It'd make sense considering Tiffany?Ooo, could be Euro CJ!

I don't think it's a European CJ. European CJ's symbols are darker, that looks like a standard Y3 CJ with a symbol at the darker end of normal, personally.
Euro CJ
UK CJ
Both clearly darker. Definitely not the UK one anyway as the hair is wrong, but her symbol looks more like this to me...
...Which is a regular y3 pony.
While it be a good deal, it makes me sad a seller got cash for being dishonest though. I hope they stop doing that for future listings and the buyer enjoys them. They paid $100 total, the seller dropped the price.

It was still a fraudulent listing that the seller made no effort to correct even after being told. That's still dishonest. Its one thing not to know, its another to willfully ignore what someone more knowledgeable tells you just to make a buck. Should I then put a bunch of fakie and cheap g3 babies up for a pretty penny by touting them as a super rare set? That would be wrong. The buyer still got screwed. It is a nice lot that anyone would be happy to own, but not at the expense of being deliberately deceived.
Yeah, I wondered that too, since Perle is in the lot, and some of the others did have continental releases...but looking at the photo I'm 99% sure that's a normal regular CJ.Its so weird that so many random ponies would be together?? I'd just assume they came from a specific country together but like you said, some weren't even sold there. (I had no idea about Sunbeam not being sold there, so I wouldn't know)
CJ is a sort of army pony for me, and she has a lot of different symbol prints in the normal 1985 release, but the European and UK ones have a distinctively darker symbol. After squinting at it, I don't think that's it.
Also, on balance, I am not sure that Sunbeam was sold in Germany, which is where Perle was sold. She was sold in the Netherlands, but that's not the same thing...and Perle wasn't sold in the Netherlands as far as I am aware.
Also I think...and someone in Germany can confirm...but I think Italian CJ is more common in Germany than the European one. I am not totally sure if the European one was sold in Germany.
Ponies can cross borders...but if the lot was from the US, that's a bit of a lot of convenient coincidence for me.
I'd also probably guess from how silky her hair is, that Starglow most likely originated stateside. It's not a general rule but there were some weird things that happened with hair in that year in general when it came to Europe.

I think I'm gonna report the new listing (via "misleading title"), given they're still at it falsely claiming it to be a "complete set" (no two ponies in this new lot are in a set together lol), "mail order", and "rare". All three are lies.Thank you. Its so bothersome to me. I'd report it but I don't have a personal account.
I reported the new listing too. This guy annoys me to no end. This dude's at it again- with yet ANOTHER false listing. So annoying
"MINT"Its gross. Your listing proves your description wrong. Same listing title that their previous listings all had. Thanks for the how to. Do you need an account to report?
>one pony in the new listing has marker on the bottom of one hoof which they very clearly took a photo of to show
>another is incredibly dirty
What a laugh. Reporting this one too. Also reporting the previous one again because eBay hasn't done anything about it yet. Screw this guy.
For those who also want to help with reporting. Report Category = Listing Practices, Reason for Report = Search and Browse Manipulation, Detailed Reason = keyword spamming or misleading title, also "incorrect item condition" for the one listed before this newest one, that one is labelled "new".

I'm not entirely sure, but I would assume you would?
At the end of the day people can charge what they want for their items, as annoying as it is to us when they go nuts. The difference is overcharging for something you're selling under the right name and description, and overcharging for something you've mislabelled and which is not properly described. Can't stress research enough. Unfortunately that's hard when you don't know where to look for that info. But still the seller shouldn't keep using same title that's completely wrong for every listing.
A buyer can easily look at something correctly labelled and go, no way at the price. But a newer collector might be caught out on the description or title saying something it shouldn't.
Of course there's always buyer beware and a buyer ought to do their homework. But sellers should advertise what they're selling correctly :/ whatever price they choose to ask.

I'm nervous about the new episode of the toys that made us making the market jump higher than it already is. It's been my excuse to buy more ponies :devious:Goodwill auctioners are crazy! I scooped up Whitecap easy peasy for $30 because she was in a lot full of a bunch of G4. I think a lot of these people are trying to flip unfairly, they surely can't be collectors...
but the lots on shop goodwill have been INSANE like $70 for 5 common bait ponies
Someone on Ebay right now is trying to sell g3.5 Rainbow Dash for $300
I hope not  Luckily those listings seem to get taken down fast, and I'm pretty sure they're using stolen photos. (as these listings usually do)Someone on Ebay right now is trying to sell g3.5 Rainbow Dash for $300
I can't imagine anyone is going to fall for that one. :P
