Pretty sure it was Baby Beach Ball (though I may have gotten some petite ponies after that):

We didn't often shop at Toys R' Us, mum found it loud, overpriced, and obnoxious (as an adult, I don't blame her, and I know money was tight in my family at the time, my parents having just recently started their own buisness), but I had a gift card I think (a birthday present), and she was a clearance, probably a leftover from a year or two before when she was released.  I got her with some other goodies, I seem to recall about a dozen of her being on the shelf and not really many (if any) others.  I don't recall seeing any more G1s after that on the shelves, and moved on to collecting Grand Champions.  When G2 rolled around I fell into that age group that's just a bit too old for them, but too young yet for nostalgia.

My last childhood pony was Love Petal, the Flower Fantasy pony. I actually liked Flowerbelle a bit better, but she was so similar to my penultimate pony, Starswirl, that I chose Love Petal instead. If I had known it would be my last new pony purchase, I probably would have sprung for both!

G1 twinkle pony Napper.. I still have her too. :D

I was older and had already moved on from pony collecting / playing; I found her at a clearance 'mom and pop' store in the early '90s. Really was tempted to keeping her MOC but just had to take her out to play with her hair.. lol

I could possibly be wrong, but I believe my last childhood pony purchase was the teeny tiny twins Bootsie and Tootsie, I really can't remember who I might have picked up after that as I wasn't fond of SHS at the time and I KNOW I was unhappy when G2 came out. Which is funny because now I love both SHS and G2 xD. After that I don't really remember even seeing ponies in any of the stores nearby until I came across G3s when they first hit Fred Meyer shelves and I was stocking the toy aisles and had to grab Minty for my sister Hannah just because of the fact that I recognized the character (though she'd changed a bit) from one of my first childhood ponies and wanted to (hopefully) bring some of the joy and love I had with them as a little girl to my baby sister. Well needless to say, she probably owns at least as many ponies as I do, though most are G3 and we've found something else that we can share joy in. :)

A g3 core 7 Scootaloo... the one with the cowboy hat! I remember she was the last new-from-store pony i picked out as a kid (I think I was about 12?) because she sat for months with that awful g3 box hair because I was like "it's a waste to get out supplies just to give one pony a spa day! I'll wait until I have a couple more" and then... more just never came because I didn't see the point in buying endless doubles :P

It would be Baby Sea Shimmer.  She was found all alone, after Hasbro stopped selling ponies, on a shelf in Hills.  I positively BEGGED my mother to buy her for me...and she came home that day.
I play World of Warcraft -WAY- too much.
after fifteen -THOUSAND- posts, I now haunt the Arena woodwork

Sweet Notes. Mum then told me I was too old for ponies, I think I was about 12. Little did she know ;)

Probably g3 Fizzy Pop. I got a few g3s after they came out but I was a bit bummed because they weren't the g2s I loved so much. For my birthday one year my parents got me a big playset with ponies (Butterfly island something something? I don't remember) and I told them to return it because I was getting "over" ponies. So the last was g3 Fizzy Pop, and I still have her.  G3s were nice but at the time I really missed the g2s and just gave up on it.

My 7th birthday in 1992, my mom found me two of the secret surprise ponies and two of the rainbow babies. I had no idea those would be my last.
