Title: Which Ponies Do You Think Look Good Aged?
Post by: Ragamuffin on September 28, 2019, 06:48:47 PM
As in, yellowed/faded/etc?

I was thinking about this because I tried taking pictures of my Gusty, and she's so dirty looking! I don't think she looks good like that at all. However, I do prefer Moondancer when she's yellowed, I like that greyish purple Seashell turns, and I think Lickety-Split looks better with whitish hair rather than pink. :)

Lickety Split comes to mind. It is quite a bit of pink otherwise. Steamer too...
I don't PREFER SS Twilight with white hair but it really does fit her.
I like G3 Minty with white hair! I associate white with mint more than pink.
I also can't wait to see if we get white haired fluttershies. I think it'd be totally neat to see, especially one that's evenly faded.

Yellow/white is such a neat combination!

I think it's more likely on the earlier Fluttershys than the G4.5s. Remember when Fluttershys originally came out with darker pink hair, but then they changed it to the light pink hair? And now they've gone back to the darker, more fluorescent pink. I wonder why...?

Comparison (the palest pink, my fav, in the middle of course)

Looking at the stock images it still looks pretty close, but imo I think there's a greater difference in-person.

Fluttershy and Twilight are just forever in the "never show accurate" club, huh.

I agree on that Lickety Split statement! Although when I first got acquainted with G1, I thought she was blonde.

Most of them don't look good at all. Ringlets going gray looks pretty good though.

Ringlets isn't a pony I would've thought of, which is why I made this thread. :P But I agree!

I've always preferred ponies they way they first came out. But recently I saw a Cotton Candy with faded hair and a Peachy with white symbols and both were super cute.

Honestly, I'm obsessed with "baity" G1s in general so this is a hard question for me! I can't think of a single specific pony, but I absolutely love G1s without tails. Something about it is just so endearing to me.

I also desperately want a baity Mimic, if that counts. I can't recall actually seeing one before but I love just ponies that look really loved.

I want to say Cherry Treats. I think she looks “better” in tan than white.
Another one is Windy (when she fades to near-white ) and G3 Pinkie Pie; similar case to Lickety Split, sometimes there’s just too much pink.

A lot of ponies look quite good with hair faded to white. My Wind Whistler has white hair and it really suits her, especially as in my herd she's an older, wise pony who would probably think pink hair a bit frivolous

In general, I like ponies that are a bit well-loved, because I don't have to feel guilty about playing with them, taking them out for the day etc. Really pristine ponies scare me a bit!

I'm gonna sound unpopular now and say that I hate Lickety Split's hair faded out. She is much prettier still in pink. But I am also all for the original pink.

Sister says Tornado looks better with white hair. I don't agree, but there you are :)

I think up up and away looks way better with white hair than her original pink hair. While I'm a diehard fan of the colour pink, I think the magenta body with the pink hair and TaF symbols is just too busy looking.

I've always preferred discolored Cherry Treats to regular Cherry Treats (although both are gorgeous). I dunno why, I just do! Also pale Sprinkles <3

Oh, I agree with your sister! I love blue and white together ^.^

Baby Nightsong can also look really pretty with faded hair. All-white ponies are very pretty.

I think that any pony can look good when well-aged, as in still having the original colors, with eyes and symbols relatively intact, free from plastic decay, without any missing or damaged hair etc. In fact, a little bit of natural wear can add a lot of charm to it. For example, I have an old Fizzy toy that still looks great and I just love her old plastic smell. However, there are certain types of ponies that tend to not age well more often than not, like princess ponies (those aluminum strands usually look so horrid today!), so-soft ponies (they always have some ugly missing flock around the edges), or even some regular ponies with pink hair, like Wind Whistler (it's hard to find one that doesn't look like a gray old lady, and without her beautiful pink mane it's simply not the same to me)

G3 Desert Rose with faded white hair but only when it faded out evenly and there are no pink "roots" left. The all white plus glitter makes her look snowy and her symbol stands out more, imo.

I accidentally faded my G3 Dessert Rose’s  mane and tail to completely white.

My Baby Surprise is yellowed and I really like her that way as opposed to being pure white. The same goes for Moondancer.

Up Up and Away looks really nice with white hair.

Steamer and Sea Breeze looks good with white hair.

My sister's Tracks/Steamer has hair that's faded so much it looks like it was originally that colour and I admit, it does work on him because it looks original. Hers is also a darker pink which makes for a better contrast. My own is a lighter pink body and his hair is pink and that works on him as well. It's interesting because they look so different yet are the same pony :/

Ironically the lighting in this image makes my sister's Tracks look pink haired xD. Even though in reality it's almost pure white.

Gingerbread looks more gingerbread colored. Firefly looks like a more mature pink, rather than a bright pink that doesn't match her personality.
Faded pink looks good on some ponies, particularly white ponies whose air becomes pure white.

Cool I didn't know about that one.

However I jsut remembered that Yum Yum looks quite nice with white hair, especially at Christmas and also that Blossom goes a kind of pinky colour when her plastic ages that can look pretty.

Rosedust!! IF her hair is styled in a 40s style bob and curls. (I saw her look kinda like that on ebay, her curls were so tight her hair looked short! For sure styling it that way if I get a white haired one)

not to be the one with the cop out answer, but I honestly like every pony better aged! I think the wear and tear of having been loved and played with by someone for years prior to ending up in my collection makes them infinitely more charming

For me as long as it looks even. I can live with fading and discoloration as long as it isn't blotchy or only the head or something like that.

I agree with a lot of what's been said about fading pink hair looking better white on most ponies.

I also agree that Ringlets looks much better gray than blue - I loved her for her unique coloring and was so disappointed to find out she wasn't supposed to be gray!

I had a nice, relatively white Gingerbread who I accidentally baked to a pale brown color, and now I like her better that way. She looks more unique and like, you know, gingerbread.

Weirdly, I think I prefer Feathermay with her infamous head/body mismatch, even though that flaw usually drives me crazy.

I love fading pink hair when it's unfaded but most of the ponies that have it also look great in white hair.
My favorite out of those is Tornado.  I think white hair suits him better

Other than that a pony I've only ever seen once in that state :  An evenly regrinded TE Party Time.
She was the most neon orange pony I've ever laid eyes on and she sure screamed PARTY TIME!!!!!

Post by: maycrestmom on November 17, 2019, 02:52:04 AM
funny you mention the regrind but yep - IF and that is a big IF it is even all over than I love the neon variation.  Wizzer was another one that I had that was evenly neon all over so even though it was a plastic deformity I thought it was a cool color

I actually dipped my cherry treats into yellow dye to enhance her discoloring as yeah, I prefered her as a yellow and red pony

I second tornado and steamer with white hair look better .  And that is cool to see that there were two pink lots - a dark version and light version :-)

last is I have been hunting for a baby applejack and momma applejack that have those faded to yellow apples :-) I think them having "golden delicious" rump symbols is a cool variant to her normal red

I think the white mane look is better on tornado, lickety split, up up and away and sunspot.

I really like when so softs have evenly worn down flocking. It seems to be the happy medium between a nice soft texture, but their colours still shine through. I have a Gusty & Lofty like this and they're just perfect ♡

I really do prefer ponies with unfaded pink hair, in general. But my Serena's hair is somewhere in the middle of the fading process - not quite pink, not quite white... and it really works for her! It's difficult to get a photo of (and this is hardly the best photo of her *anyway*, lol), but her hair kind of shimmers in real life. Her tinsel strands add to the prettiness, too, which is unusual since I'm not usually a fan of tinsel, either.

Windy. I had her as a child and to me she was and still is, a white unicorn. Seeing her as pale purple was kind of a shock but I see so many white ones on eBay it wouldn't feel right to see her as anything but. Even passed up a BF because I don't like the purple. Plus white/rainbow is just so classic and pleasing.

I have about 4  g3 Hidden Treasure and I never realized until recently that she is supposed to have two shades of pink in her mane. Hot pink and fading pink. It look nice as is, but I actually really like white and hot pink. Wish I had an unfaded one though.

So, yeah, in short, fading pink is not as much of a curse on Hidden Treasure instead of other ponies.

@LaW : Yup, she has Fading Pink. I only noticed when I saw her wiki page. Actually, the reason I want an unfaded one (other than preservation) is to make her look like the one pictured on the wiki because she looks so darn lovely with those curls and pink hair. I just fell in love with this one. :lovey:
