Darren Hayes Tribute Pony

Hi all!

I've been working on this handsome fella all weekend 

He was once an unfinished G1 Big Brother custom--a fully repainted purple pony with sun and moon symbols from shes-so-unusual. Now he has been remade to be a pony version of the Australian pop singer Darren Hayes (formerly from Savage Garden).

He is a pearlescent pink, with big blue eyes. He has the most detailed sets of symbols on a pony I have ever made...all handpainted with acrylics and sealed.

A can of Cherry Coke spills across the sides of Darren as a pony, turning into a rainbow. A series of purple and white carnations float beside the flow. On one side are symbols representing song lyrics from the Savage Garden/early solo albums and on the other are symbols of lyrics from a cover and the latest album Homosexual.

I wanted to invoke a Twice As Fancy pony with the repeating rainbow and carnations.

I can't wait to give him his beautiful wavy blonde hair, thanks to Dollyhair.

My music themed ponies have been my favorites. And each one has it's own shine.

I'm not familiar with him (but I know of Savage Garden) but this pony is gorgeous! I love, love, love the symbols. I really dig the mountain/beach design. The carnations are so good too! I read the description first but if you didn't say they were carnations, I still would have been able to tell.

Can't wait to see him finished!

He looks good! I don't know the singer in question either, but Savage Garden is a familiar band name from the 90s...
I like the shiny surface of his body, his big blue eyes and the cool symbols! I can't wait to see his hair!

Savage Garden was big in the US, UK and Australia in the 90s, with a song called "To The Moon And Back" ('Now I'm flying to the moon and back/if you'll be/if you'll be my baby' are some of the lyrics) and "I Want You" ('Every time I see your face I close my eyes/and I am taken to a place where your crystal mind/and magenta feelings take up shelter/in the base of my spine/just like a chick with cherry Cola' are some of the lyrics). There's also their very popular love ballad, "Truly Madly Deeply" ('I wanna stand with you on a mountain/I wanna bathe with you in the sea/I wanna lay like this forever/until the sky falls down on me' is the main verse).

They broke up in the early 2000s because Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones had a falling out--Daniel Jones wasn't interested in pursuing music, and Darren was fighting his own heart in being a gay man (and the record companies didn't want a gay man to sing lead vocals on love songs, I guess? Um, hello Freddie Mercury from Queen? Whatever...)

About: The words and songs of Darren Hayes, an Australian singer/songwriter-formerly of the band Savage Garden in the late 90s--have carried me through many difficult times. This custom pony is an homage to his music and person--he has had an amazing glow up the past decade.

Specs:
-Failed Big Brother custom pony base from shes-so-unusual (used to be lavender with sun and moon symbols)
-Full repaint with acrylics-body, symbols, eyes
-Nylon hair from Dollyhair, with a boil perm
-Handmade bandana from a floral print quarter from Michaels

The song lyrics depicted in his Twice As Fancy symbols are from these pieces:
-I Want You
-To The Moon and Back
-Truly, Madly, Deeply
-On the Verge of Something Wonderful
-Do You Remember?/Let's Try Being in Love
-Angel/Crash and Burn

There is also a rainbow gradient swirl surrounded by purple and white carnations across his body, symbols of gay pride. His body color and bandana are supposed to recall his look from the Sydney Mardi Gras event in 2022.

"To The Moon And Back" ('Now I'm flying to the moon and back/if you'll be/if you'll be my baby'..)  After reading this, I immediately started playing that song in my head, so yes, I have heard at least that song from Savage Garden! That hit song used to play often on radio channels in Finland. Nowadays it is rarely heard anymore.

Now he is perfect and handsome! Glad he got hair and a great bandana! 
It's also great to see a stallion with curly hair!

Savage Garden was inescapable in the late 90s in the US haha. Some of his solo album hits appeal to me, in particular pieces from Spin, This Delicate Thing We've Made and his latest album Homosexual.

I agree that it's nice to see a stallion with curly hair! I don't see a lot of them styled that way? Hmm...
