this is pleasant to look at especially because you never see this much pony stuff in stores anymore

Awww! I remember going to TRU and seeing stuff like this at the time of G3.  My local grocery store had big displays too.  I wasn't doing much with ponies at the time, but it was a lot of fun seeing them!

Lovely :D

The last one is modern, though. It's the retro reproduction of Applejack, you can tell by the G3 label on the box.

I love the balloon. It reminds me of the display there was in the TRU in Brent right before it closed. That was a balloon too iirc...but G4.

Ahhh, this is so nostalgic! :lovey:
I was ten when G3 launched & I really wanted to start collecting them, but I was considered 'too old for toys,' so I had to feign indifference & secretly lust over them whenever I happened to be in a toy shop. One of my best friends was given Sparkleworks & I was so jealous because she was my favourite of the first eight characters. We used to spend hours on the MLP website playing the minigames. Who remembers the colouring pages & the scene-creators?
I particularly love the G3 backcard art with the cute character profiles. Ponyville always looked like such an inviting place.

That hot-air balloon is adorable! ^.^

People are so stupid ten is way too young to be considered "too old for toys"

the G3 Balloon setup is for the Pick A Pony station that was at the Disney Store at WDW in Orlando.  You could build  or mix and match a Princess outfit or a souvenir Minnie outfit for a pony

I was working at WDW when they had that and got pieces for each of my nieces and myself.  I think I still have a set somewhere, unless I gifted them to my friend's daughters.   :wonder:  Didn't find out until later that the feet on the ponies offered in the pick your own set were actually slightly smaller than the regular releases.  How do I know?  The shoes only fit the pick your owns.

They also had a setup like that for Mr. Potato Head and they had a Teacup "ride" accessory that worked for both and a Mickey balloon in each section.  The difference between the balloons was that the Potato Head one was red and the Pony one was pink, but they worked for both.  They may have had a couple of other small pieces that worked for both but I remember getting extras of those pieces to put with the other sets I was getting.

Oh wow, the memories... Really miss the good ol' days when ponies had their own aisle and not just a tiny section with max 5 different sets. What great finds!

Oh, I remember when G3s where in the stores. It doesn't feel that long ago. I rememeber looking at them and thinking they were ugly but a step up from the G2. Then I saw Kiwi Tart.. it took about a week going in to the store almost every day and look at her before I finally bought her.. and then some others. I love those pictures! What's in the bin with the balloon?

I still played with ponies and Barbies when I was 12. I was considered too old too, but I blamed it on my younger sister when people found out and called me out :lookround:.

Oh I love those! I was an adult when G3 was out, but I loved going to the stores and actually being able to choose one for myself, or sometimes the whole set.

I wish we had more photos of the 80s stores. They will live forever in my mind.

This is so nostalgic. Digital cameras were not common then, and smartphones didn't exist. So I wish I had thought to take pictures back then, but sadly, I did not. I do have some pretty cool signage from the time, though, since I worked at Walmart from 2003-09 and had many things saved from the baler/compactor for me by the toys department manager.
