Ebay Bid Retraction
« on: April 28, 2012, 01:19:54 PM »
Please note this is not me retracting on someone else  :P ...its just something that has been happening to me more and more in the last 6 months than ever before. I used to think you could only retract a bid before you entered the last 24 hours of an auction...however I guess this is no longer the case on ebay.

Up until how last minute can a bidder now retract their bid?

Thanks guys

I think there was thread recently about this but I can't find it.  So yes I believe it has been happening more and more.

I believe it is 12 hours though and not 24.

And unfortunately, I think they still can cancel the bid after that 12 hour mark but only if they retract it within one hour of placing it.

Geez, eBay continues to stick it to the sellers, don't they? :( I understand that you've got to protect the customer and all, but their policies seem to get more and more ridiculous each day.

Bid retractions make me suspicious because I know there have been cases where shady people used that to find out what a reserve price was or what the current high bidder's max bid was.

Also I have seen bid retractions like this:
bid entered: $55.99 -retracted. "reason: entered wrong amount"
new bid entered: $21
yeah..  :lookround:
I don't think the retraction option is meant for those kind of changes, randomly lowering your max bid, but for very special situations like if someone meant to bid 10.99 and typed it as 1099!
Or has that changed?

I think it used to be possible to check out a buyer, see how many bid retractions they had made, but I can no longer find that feature.

I am pretty sure if you look at the buyers feedback, over in the top right corner is a little box that shows you how many bid retractions they have.
