Title: What is your guilty TV pleasure?
Post by: Loa on March 05, 2021, 11:21:50 PM
I'll admit.
I used to LOVE Jeremy Kyle.
Now, I love Judge Rinder, and Judge Judy.

What about you?

I don't have any right now, but my guilty pleasure TV show used to be True Blood. That show was all sorts of messed up but super entertaining. RIP Nelsan Ellis. He played Lafeyette, my favorite character.

I'll have to admit that probably Family Guy, I know this show is super-offensive, has a lot of gross moments and actually gave me nightmares a few times, but for some reason I just can't help it, maybe it's because of all those references to 80s movies and music that I like, maybe something about the whole "it's funny because it's true" brand of humor, or maybe because some of the characters are just so likable. Sometimes I will promise myself to never watch it again after something in it left a bad taste in my mouth, but then I will always just come back to it whenever I find a scene in my YouTube recommendations.

People's Court is definitely one. I rarely get to see it but that is the only court show I like besides Judge Judy. I really like Judge Marilyn Millan and the guy Harvey that usually gives commentary on the cases. Rarely get to see either one though. iCarly and Drake and Josh feel like guilty pleasures too since I'm well into my 30s but I can't  help it. I still really like them.

Judge Judy. I know it's fake, but it's also so funny.

The Judge shows aren't "fake" per se, it's just that they don't have a real legal case. They agree to drop it to be on the show. I like them too, Judge Judy and People's Court are my favorites.

I suppose my real guilty pleasure though is Top 15 on YouTube with Chills (the guy with the weird monotone voice). They have a lot of paranormal stuff and things like "This is the scariest video you will ever see!!!!" I don't believe in any paranormal stuff but I like the videos anyway, and I love Chills. His voice grows on you and so do his stupid puns

Veggie Tales is another guilty pleasure. At least the Veggie Tales from the 90s/early 2000s. Don't have much interest in the newer stuff but so much nostalgia for them. My Bible teacher was a big fan and would show Veggie Tales during Bible Class which is how I came to like it.

Lately I've been watching a disturbing amount of korean drama. I never could get into those back when I had friends throwing out recommendations. I figure maybe either the dramas got better or my brain got more accepting...

I wish that Netflix had a better catalogue of Japanese drama series. I've had to go digging through old DVDs.

I also have a fondness for watching shows I remember as a kid, or adaptations. The BBC Malory Towers adaptation made me happy <3 Even though some things have been changed from the book. I loved those stories as a kid and yay for whoever it was on the production team who decided NOT to remove Darrell slapping Gwen, even though the books have been fiddled with ><

A show I loved as a kid was The Girl From Tomorrow. It's an australian show, I think it was from around 1990, judging by the hair. I also have DVDs of the Demon Headmaster and the Worst Witch. xD. And Farthing Wood. That is a true guilty pleasure, but should be watched at least once by everyone.

I love court shows too.  :D   My favorites are The People's Court, Hot Bench, Judge Judy and Personal Injury Court.  I also like Undercover Boss but I don't get to watch that very often.

Now that someone mentioned it, I guess the original MLP cartoon could definitely count in my case, as I'm a thirty-something male who loves a little girls' cartoon from the 80s to the point of owning the whole series on DVD and having developed an entire ritual of regularly watching multiple episodes in bed after an evening bath and sometimes even having snacks (a standard can of Pringles can usually last me for a single four episode storyarc). Some people would find it weird, but it makes me happy and helps me forget about the evils of the adult world for a moment, so I guess it's a pretty solid example of guilty pleasure.

Arthur shouldn't be a guilty pleasure, that show is great :) I remember one episode where they had to illustrate a story or something like that, and the stories were animated in the style of older cartoons including Dr. Katz and Beavis and Butthead

Something else I watch on YouTube that's kind of cheesy, I guess? Is those "humanity restored" compilations especially ones where it's humans helping other animals. Sometimes I get all emotional watching them

I did not watch the most recent season of Wentworth in one weekend.  Totally did not.  I wish I could find full episodes of Judge Rinder on YouTube.

Ok, this is the more accurate answer...of Youtube I do watch those dumb beauty drama channels. Do I know who any of these people are? Nah, but I have to hear about their botched launch! So interesting! Although I'm starting to get sick of it all.

I was about to ask how you're able to stand it all. I think youtube has turned into a monster. The communities are all about call-outs and drama and accusing eachother of -isms and -phobias. The "info" channels might even be worse. They spread propaganda instead of education and all their topics and titles are clickbaits and "topic du jour".

I used to watch those "weird internet drama" channels, like people reporting on Dash Con and other nonsense. But even those I can't stand anymore.
I guess I have no YT guilty pleasures anymore. My honest pleasure is watching artists create in time lapse or artists explaining how they do something. I watch a lot of miniature building, it's oddly soothing.

I haven't watched it in a while, but I used to enjoy "Dance Moms". I'm not quite sure why, as I've never been into dancing myself, and I certainly wouldn't want all that drama in my life, but I enjoyed the music and the costumes and all that. I guess it comes from being in the drama club at school. The whole atmosphere is just so nice.

I don't have normal TV - only streaming services - crunchyroll, funimation, iQIYI, Youku and youtube. Lately, I have been into Chinese costume dramas.

I also have DVDs of the Demon Headmaster and the Worst Witch. xD.

My kid LOVES Demon Headmaster, (90s and more recent ones, too) in fact, she was binge-watching it this week!

Guilty pleasure? Hmmm.

Lots of UK folks will shake their heads at this, but there have been a few occasions when I have left Mrs Browns Boys on TV without changing channel  don't judge me!!!

A Columbo movie or Murder She Wrote marathon on a Sunday is always welcome, but there is no guilt there!  :P

Since people talk about YouTube as well, I think I should also mention Critical's channel. Yeah I know he cusses a lot and some of his lines are pretty offensive, but I just love his angry tone and how in every one of his videos he sounds like he was forced to watch something he absolutely hates, I had no idea anyone could shove so many insults into a single sentence

Guilty Pleasure? Chinese dramas/animations based off of boys love web novels  :lookround: They are heavily censored so it ends up as bromance or soulmates. They have to be set in ancient China though and the characters are usually martial artists or cultivators. Modern settings are not intersting to me.

When I was home - House Hunters or travel channel/food network were my pleasures. Or trashy stuff like teen mom.

I don't have cable/internet, my television options are limited. Grey's Anatomy. I've dabbled in viewing it off and on since it started. Definitely outside the realm of normal sc-ifi/comedy shows that I usually gravitate toward.

Don’t judge me but I watch Cocomelon on Netflix waiting for Season Four to be one, yeah I know it’s for little kids but I love watching it along with Waffle the Wonder Dog on CBeebies.

Cocomelon is really cute, I've seen it on YouTube (one of the stranger recommendations that seems to pop up if you watch a lot of cartoons and Disney stuff). I remember a strangely catchy song about a hamster called Jellybean.

Hallmark Mysteries when I'm not watching Greg Gutfeld...
I used to watch Food network but then I could no longer guess the winner so it became irritating.
when I'm not watching Hallmark Mysteries or Greg I'm watching movies on the phone or here.

Wife Swap is definitely a huge guilty pleasure of mine. Last time I was visiting my mom, I turned it on, and ended up getting her, her husband, and my little sister hooked too. Atleast I'm not the only one anymore. :D

Weather Gone Viral.

This was not a show that I thought I'd enjoy at first.  I was desperate one night for something to watch and to take my mind off of my current circumstances and started watching it.  It's short extreme weather video clips and there is a panel of experts that always talk about the video and if a person is doing something not smart (letting a child play under a drainpipe in a bad thunderstorm with a metal ribbed umbrella) the panel points out why that wasn't a smart choice and how people that find themselves in that same situation cand make better ones.

I don't consider most of what I watch as guilty pleasures, but "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir" would definitely be one. I love the concept for the show and the drama of waiting for the identity reveal but the writing plays around too much; the characters and story are not being used to their full potential and are being really dragged out.

So many people saying Judge Judy makes me happy. She is so great. XD

Lately my guilty pleasure has been RuPaul's Drag Race. Now I suddenly want to get into makeup and fashion.
