My lease renewal is up and I have an appointment Tuesday. They want physical records so I was printing out all my paperwork. They require the last 6 months of bank statements and any other payment source, like Paypal. When you open the .pdf for the months statement, only like the first 2 or 3 pages is actually money-in money-out. The rest of the pages is all legal policy stuff. Some of it goes on for like 6 pages. And it's the SAME thing EVERY month. Doesn't matter! Public Housing wants to see it ALL. So after 5 months of bank statements, I ran out of paper. I have no money to buy more paper at the moment. I'll call tomorrow and tell them, hey, I can't print out my stuff because I ran out of paper printing the SAME EXACT THING multiple times and it doesn't even matter because it has nothing to do with the actual statement!!

You'd think a system that helps poor people would be better. What if someone doesn't have a printer? Or a computer? My downstairs neighbor doesn't even have a phone.

And then you get all the idiots who think we get "handouts" - HA! We have to go through SO MUCH CRAP to even apply for government programs! Sure, there is the odd person who takes advantage. My sister was one of them. She sold her food stamps for drugs all the time. But most of us are just trying to live.

My disability, medicaid and food stamps are still in appeals, btw.

edit: I found some more paper on my craft bookcase.

ugh i'm already annoyed. though most of my bad mood is probably the time change. spring forward is always rough for me.

BC    yeah the system is set up to make it harder for people to get benefits they're entitled to. it's just evil IMO. and characterizing benefits and "handouts" is just gross. we have plenty of money to give rich people and corporations but when people need help to live all of a sudden the government is broke. not to mention police and law enforcement money spent to . my view of government benefits definitely changed once i learned about all the tax breaks and subsidies that corporations get in the vague hope that "job creation" will happen. what's the saying? socialism for rich people capitalism for everyone else.

it's total BS that people get all crazy about thinking people are getting "handouts". to hear the way some people talk you would think someone shows up at their door each month and asks for a check. that's not how anything works. the government is not a business and it's a total mislead when people say government should be run as a business. it's not there to be a profit center. it's there to provide for it's citizens.

also, if anyone wants to be angry do some looking into what fraud Rick Scott, the US senator from Florida has gotten away with as he advocates cutting benefits. the fraud that does go on is pretty much all from corporations that provide healthcare services and bill improperly. not from people who are actually needing the benefits in order to live. how people are in a mental headspace where they don't think all people should have access to housing, food, healthcare as a human right. it's not a right that has to be earned and exploited for the profit of others. it's not to the benefit of regular people for anyone to be desperate and exploited by employers.

The UK is currently immersed in a similar backlash against people claiming support, with the usual suspects - entitled people who have never been disabled complaining how they know everyone is faking the system, despite disability fraud here being at 0% officially.

Though we still have our Equalities act here and equality and diversity still exists, it's not applied well in the case of disabled people - we don't even have hate crime laws around disability. I am amazingly lucky in my workplace because my manager is an absolute hero and has fought for us tooth and nail in our recent restructure, to the point we don't have to even re-interview - but there are so many other people unable to get or keep jobs because of abuse in the system or just complete lack of adherence to equality legislation.

It seems that no matter where you are, the easiest target is those perceived less likely to fight back.

Though disability activists have won one legal case against the govt already in the last few months. Methinks that there may soon be a few more if they keep harping on about things that aren't mathematically correct.

If recruitment processes were more accessible, I wonder whether all the people whining about 'handouts' would actually have jobs, or if a better skilled and more capable disabled person would have been chosen ahead of them. There's an entitlement to people who have never dealt with the system passing judgement on it - but they must have their say nonetheless.

I'm sorry your association is so pedantic, BC. In my job I process claims for disability bus passes and blue badges and I regularly meet people who obviously cannot walk or breathe but who have had no luck claiming benefits or are stuck in an appeal loop. And we have to turn some people away because of the amount of paperwork needed to qualify for these things. At the same time there is always someone out there claiming people are 'getting them easily'. :/

Heaven forbid any of these people face hardship or disability in the future. There will be no systems available to support them if they continue down this path.

It's not any easier in Canada either... since we have a smaller population, there's less resources to go around.  Which means waitlists and endless circular processes.  It really feels like the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".. .  did you get that form?  well first you needed that other form and it would have come with this report which you got from filling out this other form.  Oh but that needed to be signed by YOUR doctor not a walk-in clinic.  dont have a doctor?  well here is a form to fill out!

  yeah i've been following some of the "austerity" nonsense happening in the UK. similar to the US even when more liberal politicians are in charge they're still ready to throw disabled and trans people under the bus. it's depressing that there aren't many politicians who understand that they aren't going to win back "centrist" voters that way. i guess it's too much to ask that government actually works to help people.

My allergies are so bad. Pollen is listed as "very high" for almost the whole state and it's been and continues to be windy. I don't want to close my windows because I like the fresh air despite it carrying things trying to kill me. I really need to buy a good air purifier. I have one saved in my Amazon wishlist along with a pet hair filter. It fluctuates between $60-90 and the filter is 30. It's big enough to cover my whole apartment. I think it would make a huge difference for both me and Aster since she has bad allergies too.

Also, I'm just so TIRED. Like, exhausted. Nothing perks me up. I've never been affected by caffeine that way. I can drink a double shot of espresso and go to bed. I take a B vitamin complex which helps a little bit but it's not enough. The only thing that ever worked was the ADHD meds.

The weather is all over the place too. It was 48 one night and then 80 the next day. This also makes me feel like crap.

Ugh *whine whine whine*

yeah the weather here is all over the place too. it's supposed to be in the low 90s which is warm for this time of year. it gets cool at night still at least. BC, I can be same with caffeine. i've literally fallen asleep right after drinking a latte. sometimes it makes me feel really irritable though. i've seen people on Twitter back in the day. so many grains of salt. say that it's a common thing with people who have an ADHD diagnosis to not really have a reaction of caffeine.

I've been feeling really down the last few days. i'm not sure if it's the time change, or hormones, or people's nonsense drama. maybe all. i would like to just focus on getting some work done. that makes me feel more centered. but people keep making drama  that i have to deal with.
