Have you baked a pony and had it sweat/leak?
« on: June 12, 2022, 08:20:33 AM »
Well. I saw something today I've never seen before. I put my custom in the oven at the usual 275° for a half hour to cure some parts I had sculpted. When I went to take it out, part of the pony that wasn't sculpted over was smoking! It's a Twinkle Twirl. She's covered in brown-orange film now. I have no idea. Never seen it before, not even in G1s. Could it be the plasticizer maybe? I thought at first it was from her symbol since I didn't remove it and it has glitter in it. But the orange stuff is above the symbol.

It doesn't come off with acetone. It's in the plastic, I think. There's also an odor. Kind of smells like grease.

Hmm, the other part of a pony that is a different G3 did not have it happen. It was just Twinkle Twirl. Weird! She isn't one to go sticky, is she? I thought it was mainly the Twinkle Shine ponies.

Has this happened to anyone? I was always wary of baking G1s just incase, but G3s too? If I wasn't planning on painting her, I'd be really upset

Could it be related to the magnet?

I had to bake it again for new clay. It didn't smoke or leak this time. So whatever it was must have all come out the first time. The plastic doesn't feel any different.

It's a mystery!

Not baked, but some of my customs and commissions get sticky in the summertime.

How weird. The first Twinkle Twirl I bought in the wild was also uniformely more brown that her peers. Up to the hair and symbols, they all got a tinge more reddish. I have no idea why nor how. I thought it was smoke damage, because of the weird smell. She wasn't sticky, though. I kind of like how she looks.

Here's a side by side comparison of my TwiTwi's.

Huh. That's weird. It might be smoke damage. I wonder if mine was too and what leaked out was Tobacco? But that smell is really unique and as a former smoker I think I would have been able to ID it. She still smells like grease, like fried food grease.
