Cleaning "Hasbro Softies"?
« on: August 18, 2014, 08:28:16 PM »
Recently got a Hasbro Softie (Parasol) off eBay for cheap. I was wondering how to go about cleaning her? With most stuffed toys I would throw her in the wash on the delicate setting, but with her hair and plastic eyes, I'm not so sure.

Have you ever successfully cleaned a Hasbro Softie and how did you do it?

Thanks in advance!

This is what I do:

1) Wash and condition and comb the hair (combing is the goal).
2) Tie the mane in a small hair binder.
3) Place in a pillowcase, secure pillowcase with another hair binder.
4) Wash on delicate (cold/cold water) with a few other towels etc.
5) Dry on delicate (low heat). Sometimes I dry twice on delicate.

Before and afters... (nevermind the tail, my dog did that)

^^ This, I've done the same. Also, fabric softner for the hair works too.

And I did risk putting a particularly nasty Starshine in on a stronger wash and she was fine lol.

She will be fine in the washer as others have said. Braiding her hair (make sure to use a colourless elastic) and wrapping a blind fold around her eyes as well as popping her in the pillow case is the best bet. And when you are drying her make sure to leave her standing; they have extra support in their feet which you dont want to warp out of shape.

Good luck with the cleaning!

Do the "tush tags" survive the washing machine? One time I found an extremely dirty Popple at an estate sale. I washed it in a pillow case, and it came out great, but the tag was stripped.

I agree with the above methods, though i'd like to share that a product called "Rockin' green" (looks like this http://images.iherb.com/l/RNG-00255-1.jpg) really makes white ponies whiter! I got a softie Moondancer who was closer to brown and now she's a stunning white!
I'd recommend the most gentle one of course, but this stuff works nice and smells nice too :)
