CP ponies (mainly Italian) Have some questions...
« on: August 07, 2013, 10:09:11 AM »
I have seen these mentioned but I can't quite grasp what it means. I'm sorting through my collection currently and I have begun with the big can of worms: my CP army.

ID-ing and sifting out doubles and such. My italy army is quite big, I already know there is a difference with the stamped eyes and the airbrushed eyes but as for the rest... they have tons of variations. I discovered a cotton candy with some extremely weird plastic leftovers between her front legs as well. Anyone can tell me more?

Also Peachy with dark hearts compared to others, is it caused by fading?

Then there was a cotton candy with a very puny tail, I opened her up and found a full tail wrinkled up inside. I'm going to try to sort it out so she'll have brand new tail again :)

Now if someone could also explain to me the Dwarf/hunchback thing?

I think the weird lumps between the ponies legs is something to do with how they were made, perhaps there was a dodgy mould in the factory? :) I know I have seen it on other Italian pony poses such as the trotting pose and moondancers pose :)

Peachy with dark hearts? it could be fading or that she just got a darker colour of paint :P I have seen Italy peachy with many different shades of pink and peach for her symbols paint.

I have seen tails pushed right inside a pony before :P I am not sure how it happens, may be the child was board :P

Hunch back or dwarf? If I am honest I never fully understand the difference and how it correlates with the hoof marks. I know you can get a variation in the CP hoof marks and they are as follows

Two feet stamped ~  with pat pend
Two feet stamped ~ with out pat pend
Four feet stamped ~ with pat pend
Four feet stamped ~ no pat pend

There is also some ponies with Italy on the front hoof and some with it on the back hoof, again I am not sure how this relates to the hunch back/dwarf poses.

I won't even start about the different molds because I'm not satisfied with what I know just yet... Give me some time and several hundred Italian CP ponies and I might be able to figure it out. :P

The weird plastic leftovers indeed are casting defects and pretty common. Italian ponies aren't exactly famous for their quality.

As for the Peachy, the dark hearts may well be a factory issue. For instance, most (if not all) Italy Lemon Drops with the regular "stamped" symbol (14 drops) come in a variety of shades from very dark purple to lilac. I haven't found this to correlate with anything and I believe they are just different paint batches rather than fading - most purple paint tends to sunfade toward blue, not red.

Thank you zora!

On the old Arena, there was a spotlight on Italian ponies that explained the differences in molds. I used that as my reference while sorting & labeling my collection on Facebook. Also I put every single cp pony in my collection side-by-side to determine who was in what mold. Dwarf ponies are noticeably shorter. The most common molds are "regular" and "hunchback", while "dwarf" & "Macau-like" are less common. I honestly still can't ID a mold from a picture... I need to have it in hand to compare to my other ponies. Italy cp molds are mind boggling... :faint:

Have to agree on that... my peachy army is still intact :s They have an entire box of their own, variations and all.

Does the stamping on the feet have anything to do with it? And is there a price difference?

No, I don't think the stamping is consistent enough to say if it has X stamps, it has to be Y mold.

Dwarf ponies are slightly more sought after, so they would be worth a little more than "regular" or "hunchback". Air brushed eyes are the only thing that greatly changes value. As far as I can tell all "Macau-like" molds have air brushed eyes, and dwarf mold can have either stamped or air brushed eyes. I don't think air brushed eyes are found on "regular" or "hunchback" molds... however I'm going off memory here. I would have to double check all of my air brushed eye ponies to be 100% sure.

This is indeed mind boggling! Thanks for the information guys. I'll just put them together (and hope they don't fall over) and check if there are any differences.

So not only the italians have this or am i wrong?

Yes you are, the dwarf/hunchback/whatever thing concerns Italians only.

Kitkat is not in Italy, she is in the US and has been a member of the pony Community and collecting for many years and has gathered an extensive Collection.  She is very knowledgeable and I totally agree, foot stamps are not a sure measure of what category a pony should fall into.  The best test is a side by side.

 I know Kitkat is in the US... I was talking about the pony - the CP Applejack in the photo Aquarel mentioned is an "Italian lady."
