Title: How to dust a MOC G1 without causing damage?
Post by: Ponyfan on April 11, 2019, 07:15:47 PM
Hi,

I noticed my G1 MOC Blueberry Baskets is getting a little dusty and I'd like to gently dust off her bubble but I don't want to cause any damage as I thought I'd never own a MOC G1. Could I just use a tissue to wipe the dust away?

Feather dusters are pretty light, right? Maybe lightly brush over it with one of those? I don't own any MOC G1s myself so I don't really have any experience though. :P

I think the key thing is not to put too much pressure on the bubble, either in the sense that it might loosen the glue, or dent the bubble itself. If the bubble is brittle there is a risk of cracking but I think if you are very careful there's no reason why you can't wipe the bubble over. I have done this with a couple of mine but it is true that some bubbles are sturdier than others.

I don't have a US carded Sweetberry so no idea whether they have any known propensity to weakness...but I seem to remember yours isn't discoloured which probably helps.

Gentle is the key thing. Gentle and patience.

I also wouldn't advise using water or wet wipes because although the bubble would probably be ok, you could get damage on the card.

Thanks everyone. :) Her bubble is still nice and clear. Using a tissue very gently or one of the Swifter things that Einhornbaby linked sounds like my best option.

I use exactly this one too for my only MOC. :)

I keep my more precioussssssss one in a cave... No dusting, lol.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

If you have the ability to store in a case or a more concealed area there's definitely less dusting required. I hope you get your MOC lookin' fresh again. :o)

Could try compressed air if you're very concerned about touching it? It's very gentle at a distance, hence why people use it to clean delicate computer parts. :)
