This swap is for anything with horns, and or skulls, can be as simple as a unicorn or as full on as a skull, Let your imagination run wild, some previous thoughts and inspiration posted in my previous thread here

Dates:
Sign ups: open now for 2 weeks or until we fill up
Partners assigned before or on: Sept 15th
First check in: Oct 15th
Progress pictures required: Nov 3rd
Final check in: Nov 25th and then shipping. in order to beat the Christmas rush
Please remember to always check your organizer's feedback before joining a swap.

Rules:
1. You must have atleast 3 positive Arena feedback and no negative Arena feedback.
2. You must have been an Arena member for at least 3 months before sign ups are over.
3. You must have pictures of at least 3 of your most recent customs to show the quality of your work. This is a skill based swap and I need to know where to put you.
4. Ship on time! I realize real life issues come up sometimes. If this happens, I want to know about it as soon as you realize you will be late.
5. No shipping early! I will be withholding addresses until shipping time to prevent this. The exception will be after final check in and your partner is ready to ship as well. I don't want anyone disappointed in this swap and with so many people going MIA lately, it's best for everyone to hold off until we are sure their partners haven't disappeared.
6. Be prepared with progress pics at progress date.
7. Send me pictures of your completed custom before you ship. I want to know your custom is complete before it goes out.
8. Let me know right away when you ship your pony and when you receive one.
9. Do not let anyone know who your partner is. It is secret.
10. Extras are not required, But everyone loves receiving extras in there package. However, do not go overboard with these. This is about the customs. A small treat/gift or 2 is fine and good but not too much. After all, you worked hard on the custom, it should be the most exciting part!
11. This swap includes all generations of ponies (G1, G2, G3, G3.5, and G4), if there are any of these you do not like, include that in your form. Do not use any fakies unless your partner requests it.
12. You must be in no more than 2 other custom swaps (total of 3).
13. The title of your PM should be " Where's my skull", so I know you read the rules. If the title of your pm is not right, you will not be added to the sign up list.
14. PM the sign up form to me Saja by the sign up deadline. I will do my very best to get partners out ASAP.
15. You must check in with pictures for the final check in. If you do not check in, you will not be receiving a Pony.
16. KEEP YOUR SHIPPING RECEIPTS! You need to be able to produce proof of shipping when asked. You need to hold onto your receipt until your partner confirms that they have received their pony. I also highly recommend delivery confirmation for those not shipping internationally.
17. IF AT ANYTIME YOU DO NOT ABIDE BY ANY OF THESE RULES, YOU WILL BE PULLED FROM THE SWAP. This includes, but is not limited to, missing check ins and sharing partners. Make sure you are familiar with the rules before you sign up. You are expected to follow them.
18. Please be willing to Post Internationally. It makes it alot easier to pair people by skill when everyone is willing to post anywhere.
If your not willing to post internationally which I understand, please don't be offended if your paired with someone not based entirely on skill.
19. Customs MUST be posted in a BOX. a well packed padded, bubble wrap, peanuts, foam something, but MUST be posted in a box. and must include a card or note from you to say who its from.

Personally I clay a wire into the head
-Using a pin I make a hole in the head then thread the wire in until its out the bottom of the neck
- The wire can then be bend and cant get back out of the hole
- Then you just pull it back in and add some clay so it doesnt move ^.^
After its set cut the wire to the right size and then clay your horn shape ^.^
You should join ^.^ Will be good fun and good practice ^.^

Have been thinking about whether or not to enter since I'm in a private Halloween swap and want to do a Christmas swap and I have a vacation at the end of October... but really this one's right in between all that, so the overlap shouldn't be bad. AND there's another newbie, so I think I'll be submitting my form soon...

I have a soft spot for ponies with animal portraits painted on them. You could choose any horned animal and I'd be happy! :biggrin: Skulls work well with painted designs, too.
Sculpting horns is fun though, I can totally recommend trying it even if you haven't done it before! Antlers and twisted horns may be a bit trickier but straight prongs or slightly curved antelope horns are relatively straighforward, especially if you leave out the ridges or just paint them on.

apparently these last type here are extinct in the wild now, as they were so heavily hunted for there horns. how sad

Saja, do you happen to know the name of the last animal in the photo (the ones that are extinct in the wild)?
It really saddens me how quickly animal populations are diminishing and how some have already gone completely extinct in our lifetime, while others only exist in zoo's and animal sanctuaries.

No sorry they were all long names I cannot recall. And yes completely the same, all the animals they spoke of had like 400 left in the wild, an I was telling my kids, to appreciate the view of them now, as I bet once there kids are born they wil be extint. its very very sad.

Soo, got my pony prepped, painting has started, waiting on an order of hair and NOT look forward to rehairing this girl; it's going to be the most hair I've put into a pony's head Evar!! :P Gonna be worth it in the end, though. Got a good bit of sculpting done last night. Hope to finish sculpting the details tonight and then it's baking and painting. Had to revise my original plan, but still on track. :). Hoping my partner will like this one. Undecided on the color schemes though... Which is why I haven't ordered hair yet. But soon... :D

Had a concept, started working on it..... have hated my design twice now and restarted both times. Am currently resculpting the sculpt, after re airbrushing her... pretty sure I like the new airbrushing though so thats something right?

Decided to go in a different direction, bait has been picked out and prepped and hair is on order, now onto the FBR :)

This past month has been very busy for me. I'm about to finish a private swap, so I'm working on gathering supplies for this swap. Almost have everything I think I'll need! This will probably be the most I've ever sculpted on one pony! Glad there are still many weeks to go.

I have been working on two different baits to see which one will work better. Been painting away. ;)

I'm not sure if my design is finalized but I started sculpting nevertheless, let's see how it goes! These sculpted parts are what I'm sure about, it's the rest that gives me troubles... At this point I feel the best solution is to keep working and let the pony decide what it wants to become. ;)

Wheeee, I might have finished painting AND sculpting! I'm going to my parents' house dog-sitting for a week but I will take the pony with me so I can check in time and continue working on her.

I got an idea and decided to run with it. :devious: It means more sculpting... but I already discarded some parts in my original design that would've required sculpting so I think I'm good to go.

Thankful for this cold, rainy day I had off from work. Much progress was made today!
The sculpting is done (much more sculpting than I originally planned on) and the hair has been ordered (intended to order earlier, but was torn between a color scheme and waiting for dollyhair to restock so I could place a mass order). I am soooo loving this particular pony project! All that's left to do is priming, painting and rehairing. And then a few fun, top-secret details. Muahaha!
On another note...
Anyone have any useful tips/tricks/suggestions for shipping a somewhat fragile custom pony? (Besides gobs and gobs of bubble wrap and a super sturdy box) ?

Sunshine - you could try double boxing, that is the method I use for fragile porcelain figurines. You wrap the item in bubble wrap, then it goes into a small box. You then place that small box inside a larger box and pad it (I use packing peanuts). It helps add an extra layer of cushioning. Use enough bubble wrap that the figure does not move around, and enough packing peanuts that if you shake the final package you can't hear anything moving around inside.

I haven't quite decided if I want to do more or if I prefer the elegance of simplicity, although it's less what I would care for and more what my partner would prefer, I'll see how I feel once I'm done adding the eyes and hair :)

Old posters, duplicate comics (the comic was one I got as a double because the guy at the comic book shop had one that he spilled coffee on and was going to throw away), pamphlets that come in the brushable, I have been trying to recycle all my paper bits and put them to good use.

Aww, I can't believe some of you guys are shipping already. Well, sculpting was the most time-consuming part on my pony, the rest should come together pretty easily. I hope... I still have some sewing to do and that's definitely not my forte. XD

I've finished all the sculpting! I think that will end up being the part that took the most time and effort. Painting should be fairly simple, I think. Partner, if your creation happens to be non-pony. What are you feelings on not having a cutie mark? I have been debating this idea in my head since I finalized my plan!

If it were my pony, a lack of cutie mark would certainly not be a deal breaker if the overall design is well done. :)

I think sometimes the curie marks are unnecessary. I don't think they need be forced in. ^.^

Mine won't have symbols either because her butt will be hidden. :D I agree that sometimes less is more* and symbols / cutie marks are often unnecessary with non-traditional customs, like when the pony is turned into another creature. Go with whatever you think looks best! ;)

That kirin is beautiful, I love those scales!
I'm rehairing mine right now, this sucker is taking forever... I should've rehaired her before sculpting the horns (spoiler! lol). I used Apoxie inside the head to secure the wires and I tried to make sure the plug holes remained open but there were some tricky spots nevertheless. I'm almost finished now though, can't wait to move on to the next stage!
I'm very happy with the paint job, that's what makes this custom for me. I was quite worried as I wasn't too excited about my initial design. Made some tweaks and I like it, so far! :lol: I hope I will grow to love her by the time she's finished. Most importantly, I hope my partner will love her.
