Fixing pony with eye cut out?
« on: January 01, 2017, 07:43:11 AM »
Happy new year everybody! Yesterday I found this poor little pony at a thrift store. Has anyone ever fixed something like this? It's on her non-display side but I'm still interested in trying to restore her.

Oh, poor pony!

How about doing something quirky with the bad eye - I suggest buying a large Swarovski chaton (pointed-back rhinestone) and setting it in there (with the help of a bit of white modelling paste). She could become a semi-twinkle-eye-pony!

I have seen sellers in the USA selling these stones singly - both new and vintage - look for listing describing them being a size approx 35ss (7.4mm) or 40ss (8.5mm diameter) - other sizes available, so pick one that you feel would fill the gap!

Or make an eye patch for your pirate pony
Good luck!

Well, that's one of the more interesting flaws I've seen...

I would put sculpting material in there and paint over it, personally.
But I like the idea of getting her an eyepatch too!

Love the idea of an eyepatch, but whoever could do that to a poor pony?
Or you could stick plastic jewels over both of her eyes and make her into a G3 Twinkle Eye.

you have to wonder how determined someone was to cut out her eyes.

I think an eye patch would look stunning.

PKW and a few other talented customisers transform baity beddy-bye ponies into eyed ponies, hopefully one will be along soon and give their take. I'm assuming sculpey or similar, poke through eye-hole then scuplt to look like the eye.

Poor thing! I really want to meet this pony's previous owner, just to hear what they have to say for themselves :P
I'm pretty sure some form of sculpting material is your best option, unless you want to turn her into a pirate pony.

Perhaps that eye offended her so she plucked it out!

Eyes are the window to the soul...but she was left feeling empty inside...or maybe her eye wasn't as big as her stomach after all.

I would stick a huge Zirconia in there, and make them both match.  I actually kinda like her just like that...but I'm weird about flaws...the thing I want to know is, why cut out just one eye?  Was it donated to something?  Where is that eye now?  Did the person change their mind after getting started?  Eye want to know.

If you do set a gem in there the issue is how do you set it.  You can use any number of pony sculpt materials and this could be a chance to use one...or epoxy, or superglue and baking soda cement, or some latex, resin, or silicone...I hope it comes out well, whatever you decide to do, and please share pics with us, thanks!

Pirate pony! There is an epoxy called Green Stuff that is slightly flexible.

I think she needs an eye patch to highlight her horrific experience.

But it really wouldn't be too hard to sculpt a new eye.

I have a G3 with a chewed hoof...maybe a candidate for a wooden leg pirate custom?

Pirates with eye patches and pirates with parrots on their shoulders...is there a relationship?  hmm

If only ponies could talk, right?! I wondered if it was maybe some younger sibling taking revenge.... my brother once cut the hair on a few of my barbies because he was mad about something lol! The rest of her is in perfect condition.

Thanks for all of these ideas! There are things I like about all options! She would be pretty cute as a pirate

I've filled BBEs with Apoxie Sculpt (you can use something similar though)
I looks to me like someone wanted to try and add glass eyes to her and just gave up. If you can clean up the raw edges the stone idea will work. I like the idea of just using the Apoxie to make her 'blind' in one eye.
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!
