paypal refund question
« on: April 20, 2012, 04:19:29 PM »
this is non pony related, so i hope this is ok here

I sold something on ebay a while ago.  It wasnt the right size for the customer, so she returned it and the money was sent back to her.  my money left my account so i assumed all was well.

I got a message from the buyer that her money had not gone through, so she thought.  She has never dealt with a refund before and is really confused.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts.  PAypal customer support is no fun... and with previous incidents with them, i would just prefer to be able to fix this myself.

Does paypal send a new amount on your account or do they just put it in the same place as where the money came from... like ...grrr.... hard to explain.  Do they make a new transaction? or do they just modify the old?

thanks in advance!  (i havent really dealt with refunds with paypal before either, cuz i usually forget i can return things... ^_^ )

Did you refund her through the original transaction?

If you did then it should show up through there.

Yup... same thing happened with us a while ago.  I made a purchase with paypal, it came out of our actual account, and immediately afterward the person I bought from sent the money back and cancelled the purchase.  Thing that ticked me was that the money paypal put back in was less than what it took out due to the 'time delay' of half a day and the change in the 'value' of the pound vs the Canadian dollar.  I wasn't thrilled.  Since we use paypal to pay for our netflix, they just took the money from that balance to pay our netflix account each month until it was all used up.  I was really confused at first too when the money didn't reappear in our account like I expected it to.

So glad everything is cleared up for you though!  Paypal can be crazy to deal with sometimes.
