Some of you know, Estrela in the 1980s made My Little Pony AND Strawberry Shortcake dolls... both lines were licensed and very popular, and there was SO much more variety with the Estrela ponies and dolls...
So a couple of years ago, Bridge Direct did the retro Strawberry Shortcake dolls... THIS year, a sister company made the retro My Little Ponys
Last year, Estrela made their 5 of their own retro Strawberry Shortcake (Moranguinho) dolls- (they are so cute). visitors can't see pics , please register or login
They have been incredibly popular in Brazil...
Maybe they will copy Bridge Direct again and make their own re-release My Little Ponies next? What do you guys think? Would you try and get them?
The only problem is that Mercado is now SO hard to buy things from unless you are in Brazil...

They made Barbie, MLP, Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake in the 80s as you already mentioned. I adore the Brazil Care Bears, Day Dream bear is a bit of a grail for me.
I guess it all depends if they get a licence to manufacture them.

wow this is new to me. Now this is what I'm talking about :P, there is always something new to learn with mlp even after 2 decades to collecting.
i kind of hope so but not if they are going to be the price of the ones on ebay :huh: and be hard for me to get, it would be heart breaking

New news to me. But I hope so! Just hoping they aren’t overly expensive for me to get. But, only hasbro and licensing knows the answer to this.

They are actually not pricey in Brazil/on Mercado. But of course there is the challenge of actually getting them.... I just couldn't pay the ebay markups- so I finally found a dolly-friend in Brazil willing to help me out!
I'd feel guilty asking for ponies and care bears too, but it may come down to it :D
Maybe there is a third party buying service for Brazil somewhere, like there is for Japan stuffs.

I've noticed in the past that the market for Brazil Estrela My Little Ponies is WAY bigger than the market for any of Estrela's other dolls (including strawberry shortcake) and as a result a lot of the sellers are willing to go the extra mile and make their listings available internationally- hopefully that will be the case if Estrela decides to re-release any G1 style ponies...

thanks galactica, life is just hectic these days I actually wouldn't even get time to go to mercadolivre these days, the arena is my go to place when I have a few spare moments :)
my in laws live in brazil so I could get them to pick up ponies from stores if they do end up getting sold, they are coming to nz at the end of the year so it would make life easier :)

So lucky! I will try very hard to remember to keep checking in- but I wasn't so good about the strawberry dolls- they were out for a year before I finally saw them!
