Pony Corral / Re: What Have You Lost Over the Years?
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:29:10 PM »
My original "Firefly's Adventure" VHS.  Loaned it to my neighbor in college.  *wry grin*

It doesn't really matter now that I have every G1 cartoon on DVD, but it ticks me off because it was an original item from my childhood collection.  :C

I also lost my favorite pony (prior to Fizzy) when we moved to our house in 1986.  I never found Powder, and at that point, she was long out of stores.  I replaced her in 2004 with a gorgeous near-mint gal.  I was so happy, you have no idea. XD

I also traded Sherbet for Cranberry Muffins with one of my childhood BFFs.  Oh, it was a smart move, in terms of value.  She asked for the trade, and since I had Sweet Scoops (who is pretty identical to Sherbet in color), I agreed.  My mom also encouraged the trade because Sherbet's scent "triggered her migraines"  LOL!

I guess Sherbet isn't really a "lost" pony, since I gave her up willingly, but I loved Sherbet and I miss her.  Still... Cranberry Muffins?  WOULD TAKE OVER SHERBET ANYDAY.  *drool*

Wow.  I'm so glad to hear that you got your money back!  That sales post was VERY misleading, even if there is fine print saying it's not Honeysuckle.  Ugh.

Lifelong obsession, GO!!!  XD

I was given Blossom for my second birthday in 1982, and it all started from there.  I amassed over 100 G1s as a child, and once I was in college (and the Internet became widely available), I started tracking down all of the ones I wanted but didn't get as a child.  TE Locket was my first online purchase. :)  I've since managed to collect all of the Twinkle-eyed ponies.  They were always my favorites and it was my one major pony goal in life.

I was STOKED when the G3s came out in 2003.  Not exactly the same as the G1s, but a pony is a pony.  I never got any of the G2s while they were out in stores, but wound up collecting them later on.  Go figure. :P

My original collection is still complete and intact.  Most of my ponies are in great condition, since I was very careful with my toys as a child.  I'm not sure how many I have at this point.  Somewhere between 200-300, I'd wager.

Actually, this is something funny about Mimic's "rarity" and high price tag.

I love TE ponies and made it a priority in my collecting to acquire all of the TEs.
I purchased a Mimic (in very good condition) in 2004 for slightly less than $25.  I jumped on the first one I could afford, knowing that she fetched upwards of $75 (at the time).  Over the years, I tracked down each TE pony (all in very good condition, I'm a little picky).  The one who eluded me the most?

Bright Eyes.

Could not find her nor win an auction of her for YEARS.  I finally got one in 2009, and I paid nearly $40, if memory serves.  Still can't believe she was harder to find and more expensive than Mimic was for me, but there you go.

I made a Ponyville Mimic several years ago.  She now lives with ImmortalPanda   :good:

-As pictured with my Mimic.

Her eyes are hand-set.  I gouged out the original pony eyes, inserted the gem and then used Super Sculpey to fill in and re-shape the area around the eye.  That was actually great fun.  XD  They look purple in the photographs because I put an iridescent coating over the eyes, and the lighting really picked it up.

She was the first custom pony I ever made, so she has her fair share of faults, but I had a good time creating her.  I wish I had better photos of her... at the time (2007)  I only had my cell phone camera.

I found them at the eastside Wal-Mart in Norman, Oklahoma.  I found them in the same aisle as the usual pony toys, but they were shoved onto a shelf with a flex label at the opposite end of the aisle.  I've been checking at the Wal-Mart along I-35 in Norman, as well as the Wal-Mart in Moore, but neither of them have gotten them in yet.
