Gloss top coat/sealant
« on: August 23, 2022, 09:37:42 PM »
I just finished painting my first custom and realized I don't know what top coat I should use. Does anyone have any recommendations? I used craft store acrylics like Apple Barrel and Folk Art so I want it to be semi glossy.

The go to sealers are usually Testor's Dullcote and Mr. Super Clear. I believe both come in a gloss finish.

I use Krylon, I believe that comes in a gloss. Just check the humidity before you apply so it doesn't turn sticky.

I've also used the brand Michaels carries in droves that you apply with a brush.

Folk Art has its own sealing products, polyrethane varnish which you apply with a brush. They are my favourite, unfortunately my bottle is running low and I haven't seen it in any local craft stores lately... Will have to see if I can order it online.

I’ve used Testor’s Glosscote and it worked very nicely!  Nice shine without being too glossy.
