An Unusual Easter Custom

On a whim I grabbed my Dollar General Baby off my fakie shelf, pulled out the Sculpey, and went a little crazy. I wanted to make a unique Easter custom and had been talking with my mum earlier about how silly the Easter Bilby is... don't get me wrong, raising awareness and funds for Bilbies is a worthy cause, but just because we're Anti-Bunny down here doesn't mean the Bilby makes any more sense, they're not exactly the best symbol of fertility.

Rambling aside, I chose to go with our cuddliest egg laying monotreme, the Echidna! :lol:

Hmmm, let's start with... I hate painting eyes! But I didn't do that horrible a job amazingly.  :P

Sculpting his spines took something like 2 hours? Which was one of the fiddliest tasks I've ever done but it was incredibly rewarding to see the results. His body work was baked and cured before I started the rest, cutting off his snout to elongate it and putting all his claws on, each with a bit of wire poked into his foot for stability. I thought at first the backward facing claws would look really weird but I find them actually quite adorable.
Then painting him, which was more like stabbing at him with an old paintbrush to get into all the spines. Each tipped with a bit of gold paint to give him that Easter feel.  ^.^

The sealant I used is perhaps a tad too glossy, especially under flash photography, but I think he's just so gosh darn cute! :P

That's cute! The muzzle suits the face sculpt. And I like the quills colour.

So unique and cute!!  Look at all those spikes!  Did they take ages?

Had to look up echidnas, I always mix them up with pangolins, oops. :blush:
