Title: Golden Girls Cereal Skyrocketing 0_0
Post by: Kiwichi on October 22, 2018, 07:31:50 PM
Just saw this trending on Ebay.  Funko Golden Girls cereal w/ mini Betty White figurine exclusive at Target selling for a whopping $40-100!  Amazing.  Anyone seen this cereal?  Makes me wonder how valuable is boxed cereal?  Very interesting, does anyone know the value of boxed cereal?

Funko makes me roll my eyes. Especially Funko Pops. But...they do know what they're doing.  :devious:
At least, if the goal is to spark interest in their product rather than actually...sell.
I'd wager it's likely more the figurine inside that they're after, and that some more avid collectors of Funko are probably going to chuck/eat the cereal and then save the box.
I did attend a Pez meetup nearby just a last weekend and they were selling unopened cereal boxes with the cereal mascot minipez. They all had expiration dates from 2001 and they were only selling for $2. As with any collectable, the market price is whatever sellers/flippers can sell to collectors successfully.
I haven't seen the cereal at my Target, but I've seen other cereals they've made elsewhere. It looks like this cereal may have had a more limited run than the others because these prices are just barely 3x the original price rather than...that.

I just saw a box of this on eBay and I feel confused and alarmed.

Also why is the cereal bright blue??  Surely it should be golden?

I've heard from someone who ate the Mega Man funko cereal that it doesn't taste that great. I didn't even know they were making golden girl cereal?

I don't understand. I guess it's because of the figure- but the cereal looks disgusting.

WHY IS IT BLUE   :X

I had to Google this to confirm it's real. I adore the Golden Girls but I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

:lmao:

I'm with you, let's take the next rocket off this rock.  Cereal?  Why Cereal?  0.o  At first I thought I was reading it wrong.  That is just so bizarre.

I’ve been looking at my target each time I go. I really want to taste it but I’m not going to pay for ebay prices.

I’m mostly concerned that a toy company is trying to sell food. Surely that can’t be good? Lol

I like Funko Pops but have never understood why Funko makes cereal? In fact when I saw Funko cereal before I just thought it was an empty box with no cereal inside.  Has anyone tasted it? I don't think Funko cereal would taste good.

Probably trying to appeal to kids and nostalgic people who remember when we used to get toys in our cereal.

Except funkos are insanely creepy.

.......and it's in their Pop style which I really don't care for at all.  Expected the images on the box to at least be photos of them =p

I saw the cereal in Target a couple weeks ago. Who knew people would want it so badly!

A Golden Girls cereal box would be cool to own, but only if it were actually from the 80s.

I saw someone buy the Rice Crispies box that the Christmas Stocking Baby Pony came from at a pony fair -- I think they paid $15 or $20? And that was just for the box. I would probably pay that much or more for that particular box, honestly. I'm not into Funko re-creations, though. Unless they make Funko Pops of G1 ponies -- I would consider getting those. :/

I also know a lot of people in the gaming community have boxes of Mario cereal that still have the cereal in them, but I don't care about that personally so I have no idea how much those go for.

Oh my, the things we'll market now-a-days... I haven't saw this cereal in person, but I will search for it the next time I'm out and about....

I can kind of understand people paying for a box that is 20+ years old because few probably survive. $10-$20 is also not that bad. I have paid that or more for backcards and packages if it has been especially rare (like Baby CJ's card, that was around that price I think).

Stuff in stores now seems like more of a fad. And you know, I just had a fun conversation with my first year students yesterday about the advantages of storing money vs food objects. Stored cereal in unopened packages doesn't sound very great to me going forward. Unless the plan is to open it, eat the cereal, keep the box and figure...

In any case, those prices are mad.
