Title: Custom Ponywear?
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on November 07, 2017, 11:30:00 AM
Apologies if this is the wrong thread! I wasn't sure to put it here (as it's a craft and not a pony) or in customs.
Since I saw ponywear I've been in LOVE with it :lovey:, it's just so cute to see ponies dressed up like little dolls! I'm an alright sewer, even though I have no experience with pattern making, so I decided to try to replicate one of the pieces I have (the city kid shirt). Pictures under spoiler, with BowTie modeling my first prototype!

Aaand a comparison to the shirt I tried to replicate!

There's a few problems (aside from my messy stitching...I'm a machine sewer! I don't do well with tiny things) that I hope to fix whenever I have the time to mess around with it, and I've got plenty of scraps to try it out on. I'll need to get velcro once I get a successful prototype/pattern.
Has anyone else tried to make their own ponywear? Does anyone have any patterns for it? I'd love to make more cute outfits for them but my time is so scarce lately so I don't want to fiddle and adjust the same pattern over and over if someone has already done the same thing!

Ooh these are looking good!  :ohyeah:
I would be tempted to get a star-shaped button for your funky fabric!

Sorry - I have no patterns as I have not (yet) tried to make ponywear.

Here is a tip I got from a lady who spends far too much of her time making intricate doll costumes - use a pair of pointy tweezers to help run your tiny fabric (SLOWLY!) past the sewing-foot, it just gives you a little more control.

Also - iron-on interfacing is a life-saver when using silky fabrics. It helped me make tiny fray-free gowns for my daughter's 6-inch Disney princess dolls.

Hmm can't think of anything else for now - looking forward to seeing more of your ponywear!

Wow, that shirt looks nice! I'll be stalking this thread to see if anybody has any patterns I can try... Haven't made any pony wear as I can't make a pattern at all, haha

You did a great job on that shirt, and I love the fabric you picked! Well done!

You did a lovely job there! I look forward to seeing more.
I haven't done any custom pony wear myself yet, though I plan to. I have however done a custom outfit for Megan:

That's really cute! The boots are cute, did you make those too? I love her oversized overalls. :lovey: You should make a matching outfit for Sundance!

Thank you! Yes, I made the boots. And that's not overalls, that's a vest. It's supposed to be her outfit from Rescue at Midnight Castle. I'm actually planning a matching outfit for Sundance, I have a thread here with the design concept

Thank you. I can't take credit for the visual design though, that goes to the cartoon's art department (http://mylittlewiki.org/w/images/a/a1/Meganmlpspecial.jpg)

I, uh, kinda feel like I'm hijacking the thread though

Very cute ponywear!  I have not yet made any, but I think making some MLP costumes would be fun.  You know, so the ponies can dress up as each other?  :-p

This is a custom ponywear thread and you're posting ponywear, no hijacking! I'd love to see more of what you can make! :good:
