Hey there!

Just thought of sharing my improvements since I began drawing MLP on the traditional pen and paper. I have been through 3D, Vectors, now it's time to get down to the basics.

What a great way to watch your work progress. Your work on pony heads especially has certainly improved greatly over that period. I cant wait to see more!

You're off to a great start! I personally find G4 ponies hard to draw. Geometrical shapes like circles and cubes are great sketching aids.

I know I'm repeating myself with this comment but it's beneficial to also study real horse anatomy - even if MLPs are simplified versions of horses, adhering to basic anatomical principles (like which types of joints the legs have and which way they bend) will make the results look more natural. Although if you're faithfully following the FiM style, they seem to constantly break these rules... But that's also one point; when you know the rules you know how to break or stretch them to suit your purposes.

edit to add/ I also wanted to second what hathorcat said about your heads, nice improvement! Keep up the good work.

Practice practice practice! You're doing all the right things to improve! I would also suggest tracing the show style, or other art you find impressive to learn how to put ponies together. Tracing and copying are the foundation, and then when you find yourself creating without having to use others art, you'll be sooo much better than before!
Also! It's good to see you using circles and lines for the skeletons. Ponies just are allllll circles, hehe!

This reminds me of when I began, I did a lot of studies like this too.

Draw every day for a year or two (especially from reference to learn bodies, poses, etc.), you'll be soooooo much farther along it'll shock you to look back.

Hehee, the comments on those blog pages sound really familiar to what I tend to scribble on my doodle pages when the night starts to shift to morning and I haven't slept at all...

Ahem, to the pictures! I enjoy looking at threads like these, seeing the improvement picture by picture is really inspiring. You've come a long way already, keep up the good work!

By the way, a fun fact: That last drawing with Sweetie Belle was inspired by the way Anna Cummer laughs as Rainbow Dash in the Core7 short 'Rainbow Dash's Party'. It reminded me to a particulary gruesome show named Higurashi, more accurately the scene where Shion laughs into the phone.

At first I thought they're going to be the hardest out of all because of their head shape and crazy, ribbon-like mane. And now it just comes almost naturally, it's crazy.
