Title: Checking interest - plushie swap
Post by: Skeen on December 01, 2014, 01:08:53 PM
As the title says, I'm checking interest for another round of plushie swapping! :)  We had such a great turnout and so much fun in the last I'd love to host another.  It wouldn't be til after Christmas, and like the last one we'd have a generous working time.

Would people like a crochet option again this time?  There were some super-cute crochet customs last round though I know not everyone can crochet - I certainly can't!  I guess keep it limited to Hasbro ponies of any gen, no OC's (to keep it simple).

Thoughts?  :)

You know I'd be in! And I think I might try my hand at crochet this time around if my partner would be up for it. I've got quite a yarn stash going right now...

Ooo yes I would join! I had a blast crocheting that Granny Smith pony and making her a shawl and getting her hair accurate. I adored rosier's Posey plush, she hangs out on my desk with me.
And yes I'd be crocheting.
I did find the pattern I bought for sewing a giant plush from an arena member but that would be a bit much for the swap lol

That is understandable :) I wouldn't offer a G3 pillow buddy as it would be a devil to ship.

LOL  Yeah, it would be like, "I'ma make you this, but you're gonna have to stuff it yourself."

I currently have a 90% finished Soarin Wonderbolt plush on the desk behind me at work.  Hoping to get him done tonight while waiting on Mr. Skeen to finish work!

I suppose it would give you the option if you were willing to stuff it yourself :lookround: :P I'd still feel like I was sending something that was half made though.

I used about 2.5 kilos of stuffing in the last pillow buddy I made, so it would be overweight for me to ship overseas regular mail.

I would be in again! The last one was tons of fun. I would probably stick with making another from the older pattern base.

Totally off topic but where has everyone gotten the giant pony patterns? I need to make myself a giant Nightlight like yesterday.

Level based, if we get enough people to need it to be broken up like that.  If it's a tiny swap you'll probably get what you get, but I do my best to either pair you up by skill (at my discretion, and I promise I do give it a lot of thought) or to at least pair by interests (like, crochet pony goes to crochet-loving person).

Like size wise. Yknow, so one person doesn't make a 4" pony for someone who makes a 30" pony, that's all I mean.

How does everyone embroider eyes? With a machine?
Title: Re: Checking interest - plushie swap
Post by: Skeen on December 08, 2014, 01:46:45 PM
I use a machine, yes.  But I think there are some etsy sellers who will make eyes/symbols as patches you could sew or glue on, and there is always applique or hand-embroidering, layering felt or fleece, paint, or iron-ons or polymer clay.  And the lady who made the pattern I use, she prints her eyes/symbols on felt with her inkjet and whip-stitches them on!

Heck, I'd be willing to attempt patches for people for a small fee or something off my wishlist.  They're something I have been meaning to try out anyway.    (Not outside the scope of this swap though!  I am WAY too busy atm for extra projects.  ^^; )

Before Santa delivered my embroidery machine, I used acrylic paint (with fabric medium) for the eyes and cutie marks. Here's an example (disregard the crazy tail color placement...I finished it at 1am for a 4yo's bday party):

SoapyBacon on etsy has really good emb files for sale, and EthePony sells patches...I know there's more people out there that make them so you can applique them on, I just can't remember their names right now. DeviantArt has a ton, look in the My Little Plushie group :)

Betty, re: SoapyBacon's embroidery files, have you used her Rainbow Dash cutie mark one?  I have embroidered it several times and the alignment is off a tad.  The white of the cloud sticks out significantly from the blue of the border around it.  Have you had that problem?

Everything else from her is superb though!

No, I've just used the PP one (and it drives me crazy because you have two thread changes when it should only be one!); I've created my own since that first purchase :)

I know how to appliqué and I've also printed into fabric from my printer before. So those are always options too. Hmmmm. The eyes are what I'm wondering about. I guess I could also always paint on white fabric and appliqué that on. Or get the patches. That's a good idea too.

I've been practicing so i'll be ready when this comes around again!!!
everyone's been getting plushes for Christmas. XD

so yes i'm up for it.
i'm cool with it only being hasbro pony, but i did like the option of doing oc's last time too.

i'm pretty much up for anything. can we post a collection of the plushes we already have to not get repeats?
hope that doesn't sound rude. i have an amazing croqueted plush of blossom i got from the custom army swap, and it'd be awesome to get other ponies like him. but anything different is cool too. i love variety. poofs or traditional or g4. it's all good with me. *dreams of plushes*

how do people feel about a regular plush with either yarn or brushed yarn hair.
i know i'm falling it love with them, but some people don't care for that style.

new phone, so i don't have pictures from last year, but my little alder plush still sits on my bed with my other plushes. and the ornament is going on the tree this year!!

i've been branching off of ponies to practice though. making lots of other animals, and a few toothless plushes. *dragons*

pony loaf? sound adorable and totally huggable. and a little tasty too.

i think i have 5 hasbro ponies i can list on a want list. is that enough?
one is technically a hasbro pony, i just prefer him a boy in stead of a girl, can that still count?

Eh, I have to agree CoonhoundBetty, nor am I. I prefer more classic style plushies myself. ^_^;

As for what types of ponies, I'd have to say please no OC's, because some people have the craziest OC's that are horribly difficult to make into plush. (I know my OC would be pretty tough cause of the gradients)
Title: Re: Checking interest - plushie swap
Post by: Skeen on December 10, 2014, 11:03:43 AM
I like the loaf plushies but I wouldn't want one in a swap because I'm out of room as it is and I don't need another adorable thing to want/need to collect!  XD  I'll probably leave OC's off the sign up form, just for ease.  It's hard sometimes to coordinate with OC's because I can't just tell people who their partners are so they can go look at each and every reference pic.  OC's are so personal that I'd hate to try and make one without input from my partner the whole time to make sure that the way I'm making something or the colors I'm using are fine with them.

yeah exactly. or a beanie flash sentry etc.
i only have blossom as a croquet... don't think that's how it's spelt... but i think it would be cool to get any of my other army ponies in that form to match him or blossom in other forms too. *hugs alder* next time for you.  ;)
hmmm i should commmission a croquet ( ^^; can't spell) alder to match my blossom. great idea skeen!!

i have 4 ponies i collect in plushes and i want to get each of them in all kinds of styles.

just me going on... and on.
like i have alder, flash, and twilight made out of minkie and blossom made out of fleece. eventually i want to get alder, flash and twilght in fleece too, and blossom in minkie. so the other styles out there i don't have. yes i want to collect them all!!!! mwhahahahahahaha
but for the record. i'd always love to get more minkie of flash and alder too, but he doesn't count for this swap.
I'll be adding two new hasbro ponies to my plushie wish list just for this swap. rainbow wishes and twilight sky.
so there should be 5 hasbro ponies for my partner to chose from.  so long as blossom can count as boy. if not i can leave him off the list. but blossom (girl) as a pegasus is ok. MEXICO!!! *coughs* ok. i think i'm done now. i'm just really excited about this swap and want to start now. but i'll be good. i promise. i hope i get in.
i'm too excited for my own good.

Ok, I've been thinking about this.  I'm good at other types of sewing, so I'm confident that I could make a good plush.  :)  I'm totally in!

Oh, I love beanies too! I find it lovable how floppy and expressive they are.

My favorite plush (besides the ones I've had since I was a kid) is my Jellycat bunny.  He's the perfect amount of soft fur, squishy body, and floppy arms and legs.  I travel with him because he's so portable.  :D

I'm not a fan of pony loaves, cubes or shapes either. :) I'm not that fond of button eyes really... (sowwy)

Happy with minky, felt, fleece, fur, brushable or yarn hair, knitting, crochet, handsewing, etc etc!

Just a random but sort of related question - when I see custom G4s wearing hoodies, is that a fan made up thing or do they wear them in FiM? I've only seen a few episodes....

It's a fan thing, and I'd love to know how people are making them because the plushies wearing them always go for more money, lol!

EDIT:  Guys, I just sent in the application.  I'm getting excited! :D

i really want to start stalking people and making plushies.... my rule of plushie making is, only make a plushie if i know where it will live when i'm done. sigh. i'll make a few mini ones before we get our partners.
*sits with a lemonade and waits*

hmmm maybe not stalking... but carefully paying attention to a person's likes via past posts.
