Peruvian Glory Eye Colour
« on: June 19, 2016, 05:50:11 AM »
Hi all, does anybody know which eyecolour peru glory originally has? I have two, one has blue eyes and the other one has lavender eyes. Do you think one of them is a variant? One of these Glory's will be for sale.

So I should possibly keep the one I was planning to sell. I try to get pics soon. The eyes of this one are really light blue! It is strange.

I think the general consensus about that condition is that the red dye fades/leeches out of the purple, leaving only the blue behind. Would love to see pics though!

Not a dumb question at all :)

Pictures would help determine if the eye colour is faded or not. The colour tends to look grey rather than true if you understand what I mean.

'Faded' is perhaps a bit of the wrong way to describe it. Its the right word but faded implies a colour will be lightening. Red as a pigment is the most unstable and susceptible to UV. If you have a colour which is mixed of base pigment colours which include red then the red is the first to fade or change. As it fades the other colours used remain less affected. Thats why you see purple becoming a bluish purple rather than the purple fading all the way to light purple. The particular issue is incredibly common on ponies - whether it be eyes or symbols changing from their original purple to a shade of blue. Its also combined with the fact that originally the colour used will vary somewhat in its shade.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

You are right Cat :)

I think the correct wording would be "the colour changing with age/uv exposure" but it's just quicker to say faded :P
