Title: Did My Friend Overpay for a Surprise
Post by: Al-1701 on September 13, 2014, 05:00:34 AM
Yesterday my friend was on EBay looking for a Surprise.  He has an extensive G4 Pinkie Pie collection and wants to add the G1 pony she was based on.  He came across a Year 3 in good condition.  The glitter of her symbols was all there, her body looked to be good condition, and her hair still had some curl to it.

The seller wanted $25 for it and he bought it.

Did he overpay, get a bargain, or was it the price you would expect?

I think that's too much for her, but I'm not sure how much she's worth exactly

This is the important part to remember - G1s dont have a recommended retail price, in theory there is never "too much" or "too little" to pay; its just what someone (or a couple of someones) is more than happy to pay, what they consider as its worth. Price checks and all that are just opinions and what most people would judge under the "not too much and not too little" angle. Thats why you get so many price checks that can vary so much.

For me price checking Surprise I would have put her more like the $8 mark. But as long as he loves it and is going to appreciate it then I say its worth it for him :)

It's just he was asking me, and I really didn't know.  I think he'll still be happy with it.

I think that its a little over but the main this is if he is happy with the buy and his pony :)

I would creatively go with "awesome pony, something everyone should have in their collection - price is all subjective" :P

Agree!  We all have ponies we love and would be willing to maybe spend a little more than others might.  Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay.  I hope he enjoys Surprise!  Tell him it's a great addition to his Pinkie Pie collection!

I personally would over pay for one of my favorite ponies in great condition.  Sometimes there are just ponies you connect with and no other pony will do.  The bottom line is, if he's happy with her, she's worth it. :D

Of all the ponies in that set she's one I've yet to come across a double or triple of (surprisingly--har har pun intended). Considering that there are a handful of her for sale right now at about 23.00 each, I can see why they paid that price. Every pony has spikes in price and lulls. I would suggest to them to may research completed auctions before bidding to get an average current selling price...

Meh, you can find a nice one for a lot cheaper if you shop around.
