Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Questions about Paypal Cash

I dunno. I have yet to run into this, but I thought I've received money in 2019. eh.  -- I think this FAQ covers it.

To use balance features, consumers with a personal PayPal account need to set up a balance account, which will have the same login and password as their personal PayPal account. You can get a balance account in several ways. For example, if someone sends you money and you don’t yet have a balance account, you’ll see an Accept the Money button. Once you click on it, you’ll see two options: Transfer it to your bank and Keep it in PayPal. Click Keep it in PayPal and follow the steps to get set up with PayPal Cash. This includes viewing the disclosures, user agreement and confirming your identity with us.

Pony Corral / Re: Colour theory!

Popping in to say.. neon colors were not invented in the 1980s...

Dayglo was one of the first companies to do fluorescent pigments, and that company was established in the 1940s.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day-Glo_Color_Corp.  But I do believe it could be something earlier than that.

I feel like it's pretty hard to get people to talk about color in the same way. I work with color, and I work with people who know color.. and we still talk about it a bit differently.

As long as we get a butt ton of new ponies, whether they're toy only, or in the show that's fine.

For sure! I'm really hoping Hasbro don't repeat the mistake they made with G4 again with G5. We need variety!

I don't see how it was a mistake when it was a financial success. I understand it's not what a lot of people like here, but the writing on the wall existed since the end of G3... I have a hard time seeing MLP going back to how it was.

But we'll see.

I love them. Is this the first time calico critters have had brushable hair?

I would consider the hedgehog family to have brushable hair.. and the other calico critter horses had hair (but they were horse animals, and not families)

I want to like them..
But I think it's their fingers that makes me --- eeehhh. It's not the thumbs, it's the other digits.. because takara have hands that can hold things, but they don't bother me...

When half these people are on Insta & I don't have Insta

it's really good for updates from artists for their WIPs and products, as it consolidates stuff into one page. I prefer artists that just show work (not personal stuff, or very little), and I do the same on mine.

You should be able to view a page or two of their stuff, and get a link for etsy for some 2 out of 3 of the things shared here. :)

So you only manually input the prices?

Nerddelight on Instagram makes silicone ponies, she combines different heads and poses, her work is amazing

:O That's so cool.
I wonder what they are like, super squishy???

I've always considered making my own toys,  I wonder how hard the process is...

Since this is my most hated episode, "Over a Barrel" in season 1 or maybe 2 had buffalo stand in for Native Americans with stereotypical feathers, warpaint and all. The Lame Six taught them that they have to share their land with the intruders (cowboy ponies/settler ponies) who wanted to use their land for their plantations.

Yeah, nope. That junk needs to never be shown again.

Arts & Crafts Corral / Re: Information on licensing?
« on: March 03, 2021, 05:50:32 AM »
I have not, although I work in a business where we purchase artwork, and license artwork for use on our product.

Actually, there's a part of the company that DOES license MLP artwork, but I'm not associated with that part of the company.

But what about the old art style - like Moschino did a while ago? Is that even protected at all anymore? Even the old rainbow logo has been minorly revamped it seems, for the G4 to G1 ponies. So I was wondering do they still have a say - legally - on anything actually old school (minus the brand name)?

YES.
They still currently use the "vintage" style for licensing, which can be seen on apparel and stuff.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/My-Little-Pony-Retro-Classic-Ponies-Short-Sleeve-Shirt-Small/920176731
https://www.zazzle.com/store/mylittlepony/products?cg=196032527059270799

And even if they weren't currently licensing that stuff out, they still have the right to protect their IP.

They control what they want to be put out. They give the official artwork to the companies that are making the product. They need their artwork being used to protect their brand and IP.

So they are not going to be ok with redrawing anything that remotely looks like their vintage/retro style.. even if it's another character that they don't put on products.

They also already have a contract with Zazzle (see above), which is also POD. So they might not even be ok with their stuff being on other POD sites if that's an exclusive contract.

Fanart is in a grey area when it's in the artists unique style. (And some companies will strike that stuff down immediately like Disney-- even if it's in the artists "own style"). If it's something that is ripping off Hasbro's vintage style, it's certainly not ok, even if other people are getting away with it.

All that said ---- It would be better to find a company that makes apparel with fanart, and see if you can get your product on those sites.. because they probably have some sort of agreement with the companies. (Teeturtle, theyetee... etc)

Off Topic / Re: The trivial complaints thread

boop.
My dog just ate the ear off of my pony. So odd. She rarely plays with toys.. and she ignores all the kiddo's toys.

I'm broken hearted.

There's also that one customizer that makes the clear ponies Tiella I think her name is?
Tiella makes resin casts.. I think a few others have too, although I know she has a small little side business for it--  https://www.instagram.com/soulcookiesco

Besides, HQG1C..

I've bought some higher quality Takara 3D prints before meant for customizing.

But yeah, usually when I see people doing things like that, they tend to do their own designs. (Think Whisper Fillies, or any sofubi toy)

However.
I mean, if obscure bootleg companies can make low quality ponies from scratch en masse, wouldn't it be possible for a person to make at least one higher quality pony from scratch themself?  Plastic casting and 3d printing are both things that are somewhat accessible to normal people, even if full toy companies have better access to it.  And plenty of websites sell premade doll hair.

In the traditional toy sense, One of the biggest costs for toy design is the mold. So it makes little sense to make one of something, because it'll be insanely expensive.
