Title: Spooktacular Halloween contest congrats Littlehoneypie!
Post by: NovelNerd on October 12, 2013, 01:10:22 PM: Alrighty guys! You know the drill by now. I haven't had a contest in a bit, so it's time for another one. The last one was a bit of a bust, so lets see if this one can get the turn out it did last year. I remember last year there were so many photos and submissions we took forever picking winners! Lets get started

Theme
We're keeping it simple and traditional. You'll need to make a Halloween themed photo with ponies. It could be you with your ponies or your ponies alone in some sort of Halloween scene.

Rules
Keep everything within the limits of the Arena. This means no horribly gross mutilated ponies! I know you guys are crazy, but keep it under control. lol
Your picture must focus on ponies. These can be any generation or even customs. They may have other toy friends or people included ect.

Two photos for submission only. If you have a large elaborate scene you may submit other photos to help show the full layout or to zoom in on things. Make sure to mark the ones you wanted judged though.

The wife and I will pick the top five photos. Then as some of the previous contests I'll open a 24 hour poll and let the Arena decide the winner.
I know I'm forgetting something...hmm I'll add if need be

Prizes
In recent contests I've focused on just sending a prize to one person. I'm breaking out of that for this contest but in a weird way. The main person will win a prize, and we're only taking one on this. It will be a surprise box filled with Halloween goodness and maybe a G3 Halloween pony. I mean I dunno what's in there. :lookround:

Since the last contest was a flopper and not much posting I'm offering a smaller secondary prize to the most active and friendly/chatty person in the topic. Essentially even if you don't participate if you keep the thread going, and you've just done an awesome job I'm sending you something. I'll pick that person at the end of the contest.

*I do accept participants from outside the U.S. just understand your package will be sent the cheapest method possible. Sorry some of those prices have gotten insanely high.

Dates
10.12.13-11/9/13- Open for submissions (a bit extra time since I started this late)
11.10.13-24 hour poll for winner
11.11.13-winner announcement
Prizes ship out before the end of the November since sometimes I'm slow. True it will be a late Halloween gift, but what can I say? I should have done this in Sept. :lol:

Things you may add
With your submission if you would like to note what type of candy you like that would be fine. Since the prize shipping out after Halloween I have to do most of my prize shopping before judging time. I won't have time for specifics on Halloween extras.

Alright the winning poll ended up being a tie between LadyStarflower and Littlehoneypie. We had to make a decision and in the end with with Littlehoneypie's entry. Hers was silly and just kept us laughing.

When it came to picking the most active helpful person it was a tough one. I wanted to give it to CrowningGlory, but I know you're out moving about. Thanks for contributing dear. Someone else though that put a lot of work into the contest and just generally being kind and friendly was GypsyUnicorn so a small prize will be sent to you as well.

Thanks everyone for joining in the fun. Keep your eyes out I'll get that Christmas contest up soon. :lookround:

I don't want anyone to feel like you must go out and buy things. Ive had creative entries before from people using things around the house. If you are looking for props you would be surprised what you can find at the dollar store and dollar tree. I found lots of cute pony sized objects last year and just never made my display.

Last year in our apartment we rented we had a bad wasp incident. We had a back deck with stairs and had gathered some leaves but not all especially under the stairs. We went out to walk the dogs and the dogs freaked out and wasps just stung the fire out of us. I remember the wife had like multiple spots, good thing we're not allergic to them. They had built a huge nest under the leaves under the stairs. It took us forever to find it and get rid of them. Lots of screaming and running and poking leaves with a rake. :lol:

My sister had a very close call with she thinks might have a wasp. She had gone the bathroom and she got up to flush the toilet she saw a black and yellow stinging lying bug on the inside of the seat! She is very lucky not to have gotten stung.

I'm not wishing I bought this really cool halloween type tree thing I saw at a garage sale a few weeks ago. It was a little bit more then I wanted to pay and I couldn't think of an way to incorporate it into any of my pony displays I have currently. The people don't live far from me at all. I wonder if I have the guts to ask if it's still available and if they'd take slightly less for it. lol Husband will proabably discourage me from doing this but I keep thinking about the tree, it was pretty cool being all black and glittery with lots of branches and roots. There was also a "spooky" type face in it. Was probably only about 7" tall but would have been so cute with a halloween pony custom I want to finish one day. Not going to be able to finish that custom for this contest (darn! lol) but hopefully one day I'll continue working on it.

I always love seeing what everybody comes up with for these themed photo competitions! They are so fun!

From what I'm understanding when I read the rules it can be two totally different pictures to be submitted and you can add a few more if the display was bigger and wanted to add a few more photos for fun/to show a little more but those extra photos won't be up used for judging. Hopefully we'll hear from the host to confirm or deny this. :D

Anyway to answer the photo question yes you're allowed to have two photos that are completely different from one another. Only two can be submitted to the contest. Any additional pictures may be added if you have a large display just to show the details. Only the two main photos will be judged though. Also if you're going to have to include extras to show your full display make sure I know which ones are to be judged and which ones are extras. I've had people forget to mark before, and I just took the first two I saw in their post.

The tree you're talking about sounds fun! I actually have to put up our decorations this weekend. I'm so behind. We have a scraggly tree that has purple lights.

Oh the other question the deadline is Nov 9th at midnight, and it's in the first post for reference

Tif sorry that you're still feeling poorly. I understand sometimes you just don't feel up to more extra stuff. There should be one next year yep. I also run a Christmas/New Year contest though. It will probably start right after this one wraps up and run through Dec-mid January.

madhatterda it does not snow early often....I know most people can say the weather in their area is unpredictable...but Iowa really is. We just got done with a week of 80 degree weather and sun to snowing starting yesterday. Last year we saw hardly any snow but we saw snow in May....I remember as a kid tromping through snow drifts in a snow suit over my costume for candy and then times were even the costume was way to hot to wear....you just never know....right now its not sticking to the ground we are getting the big fluffy chunks of snow:)

I call this one Mouthful of Ponies. :lol: Toppy is climbing up the pumpkin's tongue while Big Top is making sure her sister doesn't slip and fall into the pile of pumpkin guts.

As for candy, I like anything except for licorice, malted candies, and jellybeans. Any kind of chocolate (preferably with some kind of filling) is fine and sour gummy candies are yummy too.

Adorable photos and I love the pumpkins. That's very creative. I usually just pick a few patterns from the pumpkins carving site I'm on and hack away. I'm not so good as to make my own ideas.

Notice the poison and love potion bottles! They are adorable. They were given to me as part of a "surprise trade". I only have a few labeled bottles so far but hopefully I can figure out how to label the rest myself in the future or find some other amazing ones too. :D

This was the alternate photo I was going to use but decided to use the other one instead. I got this pony at the MLP fair this year. I do plan on finishing the already started custom one day. One day she'll be repainted, work done on the inside and maybe even some lighting. She's already got holes in her feet and I already own a strand of battery packed tiny orange lights! She'll be a fun project! I kind of wanted to get some real pumpkin guts/seeds for the picture but I didn't own a real pumpkin and didn't want to buy one just for some pumpkin bits. Maybe in the future I might stage this photo again with some pumpkiny goo to go with it. hehe

Yeah, my husband said something similar about my jack-o-latern pony picture too. lol I like to think of the jack-o-latern pony as a pumpkin shaped as a pony and not a real pony being carved up. It can be looked as little darkly themed but it's not intended to be. It's just a pony shaped Pumpkin. lol :P

Hubby and the kids had fun painting the barbies needed for this entry
It was a lot of fun seeing them enjoy the evening at the table together doing something fun all because of ponies
So thank you to madhatterda for posting and having this contest for I feel like with everything that has been going on in my life it was a little better due to you and I feel like due to that fact I have already won the prize ....better then ponies...family having fun together, what prize could be better then that so many hugs to you

Here's my first (probably only) entry. Baby Frosting, queen of mold, destroyer of pumpkins! Some say that it was deer that tore this pumpkin apart, but me? I say it was the BBE baby herself. Note the scorch marks. Could they be from a candle, possibly placed inside the pumpkin? HA! That's a pony explosion if I've ever seen one. I think she might truly be the spookiest pony I own.

Rainbow Swirl, Tinka Tinka Too, and Toola Roola decided to go Trick or Treating! Rainbow Swirl is a lovely pink flower, Tinka Tinka Too is a black cat, and Toola Roola is the Eleventh Doctor from Doctor Who (which was also what I was for Halloween!). The animals are G4 pets. The mini pumpkins actually grew from some that we had thrown away last year. We found them where the old pumpkins had been tossed, which is kind of cool. Oh, and the fence is my Breyer Horse paddock. I hope you all like it! :biggrin:

I made costumes for a few of my ponies! :P Here we have Pink Dreams the bat, Waterfire the devil, Tipsy Tulip the witch and Honeybuzz... the bee. Honeybuzz, the idea is to dress up in something you don't normally wear!

I was also going to include Star Hopper dressed as an alien, but unfortunately ran out of time for that! At least it means there's an even mix of generations in it.

But since I love Star Hopper, here's a bonus picture of her admiring the pretty background fabric I used. (It's not Halloweeny enough to be a second entry but I'll show you it anyway.)

I like how well the kids and hubby created Barbies into Zombies
I had never seen toy Zombie dolls before and they came up with the idea of doing this to dolls they went shopping for at 2nd hand store so it wasn't like they were using my dolls
plus they had a fun family night at table painting which is rare
I have 2 teenaged girls and it seems the only way to sit around all of us together anymore is to take them camping where they have no room to hang out in but only under the stars
I liked the dolls so much I told hubby he has to let them hang out in our spare toy room since it is half his too and I think these dolls will be with us for a long time to come so I can look at them and get all mushy about my kids in years to come ha ha

When it came to picking the most active helpful person it was a tough one. I wanted to give it to CrowningGlory, but I know you're out moving about. Thanks for contributing dear. Someone else though that put a lot of work into the contest and just generally being kind and friendly was GypsyUnicorn so a small prize will be sent to you as well.
