Puffy stickers... am I misremembering?

If you're like me, [you], and remember getting those pretty round puffy stickers with your G1s so very, very long ago... perhaps you can help me. 

Did they have a fragrance? 

I hadn't thought of it for ages, but I recently got a beautiful, highly minty pony who had a sweet, almost vanilla-y scent, kind of similar to the aroma of a new pony but not quite, and it just kicked an olfactory memory into gear.  I seem to recall that the stickers had a very particular fragrance, different from the pony-smell, that in fact they were scented... but now I'm not sure of myself, and I'm wondering if my mental wires are crossed.  (Or perhaps I should say, more crossed than usual! )

Yes they were scented. The puffy ones were a sort of baby powder scent.  It's a unique scent, and if you get your hands on some stickers that still smell, you'll know it. If you look closely at most puffy stickers you'll often see a sort of light grid pattern in the plastic, or at least a strange matte coating on the sticker. That's how they were scented. 

The flat stickers were grape scented. Those tend to keep their scents better.

I'm not sure if the UK/Euro puffy stickers were scented. I don't think they were.  They usually don't have that grid pattern/coating on them.

Yes, they had a scent, and they tended to have different scents.

Aw!  I don't think I knew the stickers were scented!  Something new for me to collect.

So much thought went into G1s that they even scented the stickers! How awesome is that?

Yes as goddessofpeep says - the majority of stickers were scented. For the flat stickers it is supposed to be a grape or bubblegum scent and for the puffy ones a scent close to vanilla. The scent for the flat stickers tends to linger for much much longer than that of the puffy stickers. Its also the reason often that ponies which shouldnt smell do have a scent because they were packaged with a heavily scented sticker for some time and the literally have collected some of the pony scent. None of my late UK puffy stickers have a scent [the ones which were packed with ponies which in the US had flat stickers] but the earlier UK puffy stickers ones [the ones which were packed with ponies which in the US would also have had puffy stickers or the ponies which were packed with ponies which were out in the same years as the US ponies which had puffy stickers] do seem to have a similar scent to the US puffys.

Huh, funny - I'd only remembered the flat ones as being scented, but it makes sense that most of the puffy ones would have been too!

I'm pretty sure the European ones weren't scented because I always remember reading "includes scented sticker" on the packaging and thinking what a load of bull lol

I remember the scented stickers.  I loved them almost as much as the pony.  They both smelled so good!

It's so funny, though - I truly hadn't thought of how the stickers smelled until I had that newly acquired pony in hand and was hit with the scent.  Now I miss it terribly.  Hope that pony keeps her scent for ages!  That way oatmeal-brained me might keep on remembering it, too.

I do have a vague recollection of the stickers smelling nice, didn't realise they were actually meant to be scented though *runs off to sniff sticker collection on Show Stable*

Yes! I do recall that scent! I think baby powder with a hint of vanilla. They were awesome! I love the attention to detail. They didn't HAVE to make the stickers puffy or scented but they DID. And they were BOSS.
