It's possible there will be a few more themes than just these, but I'll stick with the annual basics this time. :)
Since I'm not able to spend much money this year, I'll probably join the art swap. Those are usually inexpensive since you create your gift with just a few materials. Light to ship, too. Maybe I'll get hubby to see how fantastic it would be for me to join the card swap, however. :lol: Since my feet are perpetually cold, maybe the sock swap would be ideal!
And despite what you think, we don't swap children! Maybe that has its appeal thinking I could swap my strong willed "Susie" for your nice and quiet "Billy," but the shipping would be expensive! :P It's actually about swapping on behalf of your children. They receive presents on their wishlists from the children of other Arena members. :)
So then, it's your turn. What appeals to you?

The Card Swap is fun! It's usually the only christmas cards I get... I would do the art swap but I'm horrible with deadlines so I'm thinking the Pony Swap and Sock Swap maybe - never joined this one but winters in MI are cold...

what is the sock swap? it sounds intresting.. lol do w just swap socks? i'll proably do the card one. herres an idea for a swap. what about one just specificaly for our pets or fur babys? you design a list of things they like and what breed it is. wehter its a cat or a dog and you build htem a box? i know that my dogs love getting christmas presents. and they open the wrapping paper themselves!

Yes, I do believe there's been talk about a pet toy swap. :)
Sock swap is pretty much what it sounds like - swap socks. They can be fancy socks, furry socks, colorful socks, toe socks, practical socks, fun socks, upside-down-inside-out socks. Well, I guess made up that last one. :D I'd sure want thick winter socks because I hate having cold feet.
Maddie, I think there's a $10 pony swap and a $30 pony swap. :) Not including the shipping and all that - just the value of the ponies.

I picked sock swap and custom swap. Sock swap because I never joined it and we have tons of fancy stuff here! (I have a pair of christmas socks with a green tinsel tree on) Custom swap because my last custom was winter based and I'd love to make another winter themed pony!
That's if I don't miss the join in dates of course ...

Ooh, that's a great idea! I might be interested in a holiday swap after I've recovered from the Wish List swap and will probably participate whatever we do, be it a regular pony swap or something holiday related! Sock swap would be nice too... I love a really nice cozy pair of socks.

i like socks.. lol i love odd socks. epsicaly ones that go to your knee XD ohh a ornament swap osunds fun. we used to handmake ornaments. out of pincones and pipecleaners and stuff.

I've been trying to not participate in as many swapps as I did last year, and I've limited myself to one swapp this year and the winner is....*pause for effect*.... Card Swap! XD <3

A card swap! I didn't even notice it until I started reading comments. I love making christmas cards, I'll definitelly do that one. I'll also do the ornament swap if that happens. But actual pony swap... That would be fun, but the shipping costs are astronomical and there's really no ponies in flea markets around here or anything, so probably not.

I'm making a card right now for my Wish Swap box and so it really has me in the mood to make more cards. I don't get to draw enough and I really love everything about the holidays and winter. Fall too, but no one exchanges Happy Autumn cards.
And I also love making ornaments. We used to have an ornament making "party" each year with a different easy to make theme. Some of our favorite ornaments are the ones from these get togethers.
I know I could easily do those two. I'd like to do a pony swap too!

Yes, it's quite common to send candy as extras in a swap. I remember getting little candies in a card swap, and some in a pony swap. :)

My rabbit isn't bitey, she just doesn't like being picked up and cuddled. Mostly she likes food and trying to eat the wallpaper.

Besides being the resident crazy pony lady at work, I'm also known for going all-out for holiday decorations/jewellery, and also for wearing outrageous holiday socks. ^.^ That one really sounds up my alley.

I'm still fairly new of course and probably would not have met the criteria to participate in a swap....BUT
A card swap is pretty neat, and socks are the best! So many fun styles out there to find specially round fall/winter. I love crazy socks. (The long socks that go over/to the knee) are super warm too!

People seem really excited about the card swap and that one is as easy as it is fun, so I might try for that one this year.
I also really really really want to do the dolly swap! That's the big one I am determined to get into for certain.
And if those don't make me think I'll be drained dry, then I may also participate in the pony swap, but only if I think I'll be up to it and not end up being a cruddy partner for some poor, unsuspecting victim. So that one is quite tentative.

I hope I have enough feedback to get into a low-level pony swap. *crosses fingers* I did one of these back during my first go-round in pony fandom and it was loads of fun. I also like the idea of making holiday cards!

I would absolutely love to do a pony or art swap, but I'm honestly afraid I'm not good enough for either. The few times I've participated in my other hobby swaps, I feel like I've always let my partner down even though I really do try to put as much thought and care into my gifts as possible. I just don't have a ton of extra cash, especially around the holidays, so I'm afraid my gift would look sparse as I doubt I'd be able to spring for a lot of extras outside of the minimum price range. I know I even commented on this on another thread about some folks feeling nervous about not spending as much as others, and while it's easy for me to feel that others shouldn't worry about not having as much to spend, it's difficult when it's ME who doesn't have a lot to spoil my swap partner with. And while the art swap wouldn't cost a lot, seeing all the talented artists on the forums has me afraid my partner will think I'm lazy or didn't try very hard because my own work isn't up to par. I just really don't want to disappoint my partner, even though joining a swap sounds like a lot of fun, so I really have to think more about it.

Oh! An ornament swap sounds exciting! Do you mean like we say what type of tree/decorations we have, which holiday we celebrate, and colors/ponies/other things we like? I would love to do this! My community has excellent craft shows and cute handmade things in stores. :3

Since I'm currently short on funds, it's hard for me to say what swaps I would be able to do. I would love to do a bunch of them though.
As this is my first year, I'm hoping to at least be able to get into the Custom swap. All the custom ponies I've seen on the Arena so far have been so beautiful, that I would love to get one. I've pretty much been wanting to do a custom swap since I joined, but also have had no ideas for a theme or such for a private swap.
I'll be keeping my eyes open for the sign ups though!

And it's already cold enough here. Some days it's really chilly and at night it's like 45-50F *freeze*

Thats what I thought, I just thought that maybe I could put myself forward to run the offical card swap this year as I'd like to do some things like that on here. Unless you have to be a moderator or something. I have run art comps here before which have done really well if that helps. I understand if it need to be in house so to speak though.

$10 Swap = at least 7 references.
$30 Swap = at least 10 references.
$10 Sock Swap = at least 5 references.
Art Swap = at least 3 references.
Card swap, it looks like you need to have been a member for 3 months with a post count of 100 or more.
Custom swap is between 8 to 10 references, with some of them being custom related.
The rest of them, I'm not sure on. But it gives an idea.

I think a stuff a stocking swap would be fun. Or maybe as a way to help keep boxes from getting crazy in the pony swap. Everyone picks or makes a stocking for their partner (a particular size required, no bigger or smaller). Then you gotta chose carefully what you fit in. Everything has to be in, though sticking out a little is okay.
For some reason, I have missed the holiday swaps every year. I hope nothing keeps me out of them this year! I'm interested in the card swap for sure, very likely the sock swap, then either the custom or pony depending on if I'm settled from the move and have money.

Yes, this is what I mean. I have been scrambling to get trader/seller feedback for the 30$ swap. If I don't have it in time, I'll probably have enough for the ten dollar swap, but I really wanna do the thirty dollar one. easier to spoil my partner that way, haha. Anyway, in a week and a half I should have at least ten, and I have someone to use as a reference.

Thats more a TS issue...but personally if someone doesnt leave you feedback your best first bet is sending them a pm to make sure that they are happy enough with the transaction and if they are you can ask for feedback to be left if they are happy with everything.

What are the rules? I'm newer to the boards and I've done two swaps (where I was the buyer) with a third in the works. From what I read on a couple of other swaps, newbies don't seem to be allowed to partcipate. If there are some swaps I could do, I'd lke to sign up!

Swaps involve multiple participants each sending to and receiving from different partners rather than one-on-one trades :) Most swaps do require feedback of some kind - certainly the official Arena swaps ask for references as well as minimum post counts and minimum membership levels. Thats standard across most swaps to be honest. If you are doing trades just now you ll build up feedback quickly enough - enough to take part in a future swap!

I'm having trouble locating some swaps too :( In the Custom Forums is the 'Handy Dandy Swap List', but that's only for the custom related swaps. Wouldn't it be easy to have one in the Corral?

There are some in the $10-15 range, but I don't know of any that are taking sign-ups right now. Good luck finding one that fits your budget, I'm sure you will. :)

Maybe the sock swap? Light to ship and socks are fairly economical and easy to find in stores.

As each swap is made available for sign-ups, the organizer will let you know which account you will be PMing with your references and wishlist. :)

Actually... I'm pretty sure you're right! The swap sign-ups will be posted as the organizers are able to get the information posted. Those are just the general rules for all the Holiday Swaps. :) It's going to be an exciting week around the Arena!
