Off Topic / Re: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream
« on: October 08, 2020, 03:21:41 AM »
My faves are usually simple fruit flavors. But, I love trying any weird seasonal flavors I come across. I had rose flavor once, it was awesome. And I don't actually like chocolate icecream or anything with crunchy bits! Chocolate inclusions are okay, as long as the base icecream is some other flavor. But nice, refreshing fruit is the best, lol!

I watched a 3 hr yesterday, you're fine, lol. As long as it's interesting, any length is fine.

One tip from me! Keep some hand wipes ready. Tiny, invisible bits of clay will stain your hands and tools, and then end up on the next piece of clay. White and pastel colors will be a messy rainbow before you know it!

The previous list of tools is really good. I also use an exacto blade for fine details, long metal pins for making beads and other hollow things, a non-stick working mat, and a fair bit of acrylic paints and glazes for effects. Liquid sculpey and similar products, while not necessary, will increase your  creative options! I'm more of a mixed media sculptor, so I like the variety of textures you can get with those.

Youtube is a gold mine of inspiration ideas and tutorials, and for books, "The Complete Book of Polymer Clay" by Lisa Pavelka is my favorite.

And of course, test your clays to see how they perform during baking. It really sucks to spend hours on a project, only to have it fail because of a new clay that did something weird.

One of the best things about living in farm country is all the weird bugs, butterflies included! Where I lived before was really urban, so I  hardly ever saw butterflies, but here I see lots. And since they're all new to me, I probably get way too excited, lol.
Congrats on ths successful garden this year. I miss my garden, sigh.

The Dollhouse / Re: Doll clothes sewing book recs
« on: September 27, 2020, 08:10:22 PM »
Hadn't heard of that one! Thanks for the rec. I'll have to check it out.

I tend to prefer Japanese books for crafting, because I find they have the best instructions, and waaay more content. Ngl, the worst craft how to book I've found here was still better 7/10 of similar books I've found in the states. And the best books blow American published craft books right out of the water. And don't get me started on the craft magazines! It's even more pronounced there. Tutorial writing is a skill...that most people don't have, lol.

That being said, Japanese books have their flaws, lol! For example.... Fair warning about the english translations in the Hanon book, for some reason they consistently translated the word 'fabric' as 'dough'. Doesn't affect the readability of the instructions, it's just funny. Why no one noticed before printing, I have no idea, lol.

Oh, and the patterns come sized for dolls in 3 sizes, at 100percent. No resized copy mistakes, yay! Lol.

hmm. I'm just worried the scale will get distorted. I'll include a size mark  so that we can make sure the pieces are all printing correctly. I hope to have it up tonight, but it depends on whether I can find a new memory card for the printer. Some moron decided that printers don't need usb anymore, because "Eeeeeeeveryone has blue tooth, right? Cords are so old fashioned!"  Augh. Never mind how the printer point-blank refuses to connect to the internet.....
Anyway. Scan issues aside,  hopefully  we can start soon.

The Dollhouse / Doll clothes sewing book recs
« on: September 27, 2020, 04:16:03 AM »
It has eeeeeenglish lol. Also, awesome step by step photos with written instructions for each step. Very good if you're new to sewing clothes of any size, but includes some tricks specific to miniature clothes.
Patterns are a nice mix of basics, so you can make a mix and match wardrobe. Much, much better quality clothes than the garbage that dolls get sold with lately. Looks like things you could and would wear yourself, lol.

Title is  "Doll Sewing Book HANON", available from amazon.jp for 1800 yen. (About 18 bucks, depending on exchange rate.)

Yay! Does everyone want the halloween outfit, or is anyone interested in another? I don't mind scanning an extra pattern.
Also, what would be the best way to provide the jpeg scan files? How do you want to do the hand off, so to speak? Lol

Also, pattern is 100 percent japanese,  but i'm willing to translate anything that isn't clear.

sadly, no wallets, lol. My books lean toward bags and lunch boxes, as that's what I wanted to make. :P Also, some very cute doll things.

lots of really cute coin pouches though. especially if you food-themed ones. i personally think pouches shaped like a triangle sandwich or sweets are hilarious. if only I could find the pattern for the sandwich pouch! (I keep seeing the pouches at craft fairs, so it must be somewhere, but I haven't found it yet, lol.)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Re: Any other Sanrio fans here?
« on: September 17, 2020, 06:21:02 PM »
Ohhh, well that's good to know. And I meant the Sanrio display in stores here. Apparently there's a lot of people who can't tell them apart, lol. They seem to get mixed up a lot. Must make the shop workers crazy trying to keep them sorted...

Oh well, wrong brand, still cute. I like the whole snackfood puppy family  but Cinnamoroll is the only one I have plushies of.

Do another one, but make it pony themed, lol!

My bag is done, except for the last patch and some embroidery or sashiko....Or both? Why choose, right? I think I'll keep it low key for now, and add to it when i get bored

Does anyone know of  an image hosting site that works from a phone, but doesn't need an app? It would be nice to post pics from my phone...probably a dumb question, but i'm terrible with android.

Pony Corral / Re: Who was your favorite flutter pony from the 1st set?
« on: September 16, 2020, 05:13:35 PM »
Galatica, same. There's a variety here in Japan that is just stunning, with greenish black leaves and shockingly intense deep blue flowers that can be over 4 inches across....basically, it's gorgeous.

And I routinely see wrathful gardeners yanking it off bushes and fences, lol. Ahh, the morning glory, so pretty, but so evil....

And to make offtopic post less  random, I distinctly remember the absolute lack of decision necessary when picked Rosebud off the shelf, lol. It was love at first sight, and she's still one of my all-time favorites.
