Title: YIKES! MIP TAF Pony Project pony all stained! Ebay seller: igittyup 8/13 update
Post by: Knibitz on July 30, 2012, 02:42:57 PM
Surely other people have bought the TAF pony from this person.
They apparently have a ton that they're selling for 30$ shipped
A bargain, so I snatched mine right up!

However, mine's arrived and she's HORRIDLY bright pink stained ALL OVER!!!!
spots on her torso (both sides), neck, cheek, NDS legs, and butt are all highlighter stain pink!
It appears that her hair is staining her?

But she looks AWFUL! Not display worthy at all IMOP V_V

:( What to do, what to do?
is 30$ still a good deal for this girl?
I don't know if i'm going to open her up yet, I'm thinking about sending it back...
but, if I decide to keep her, can her stains be fixed while still saving her symbols? :(

Has anyone else gotten theirs yet? (the seller had more than 10) How did yours fair?

I dont want to take her out of her package till I get some advice on what to do.

The seller said free shipping, does that mean I'll get all 30$ back if I dispute it and win? or will they have the ability to take shipping out?

Update:
I messaged the seller and they were very apologetic and willing to help, please see the response in the discussion below:
http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,304134.msg326075.html#msg326075

8/6 update:
replacement is damaged :(
http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,304134.msg340574.html#msg340574

8/9 update:
=_= ugh.
http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,304134.msg343265.html#msg343265

8/13 update:
Seller refunded 5$
http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,304134.msg352038.html#msg352038

Consider this resolved, but unhappily.
I do not recommend this seller to picky collectors, like myself.

I'd ask them for a swap or a  full refund, you'll have to pay the shipping back to them though.
So sorry that happened :(

No :( They had a ton to sell and only pictured one, which appeared mint. I can't find any stains in the photo :(

I shot the seller a message, we'll see how they respond.

:( Best of luck Rhini! Keep us updated!

Please, others who have received the TAF Project Pony from this seller, let us know the condition of the pony when it arrives!

Well that's sure odd...I got tracking from the seller, and when I checked on it just now it said

"Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office."

Weiiird. I'm thinking that maybe mine's been delivered since yours was and we ordered on the same day? But I'll have to wait til I get home to find out.

I got mine and it is not stained, not in that sense anyway. When I first unwrapped it seemed to have a very very very faint pink tinge to the plastic, but I couldn't really tell if that was from the hair reflecting, or seeing in through the bag, or my imagination. But the light in the room I opened it in often makes things look a bit weird. In different light it certainly doesn't appear pink at all. Holding it next to another white G3 I can see that the white has a slightly different tone to it, but the other pony in comparison almost seems to be yellowish. Both ponies held on their own look white though, and the TAF pony certainly reads as white when displayed alone.

I was one of the first people to order this pony from the seller, they had only sold 1 other at the time I ordered mine, so I wonder if they started by picking out the best looking ones or if it is random.

I hope they are able to find a replacement or do something for you :\

hmmm. Mine was paid for on the 27th, shipped that same day in a flat rate priority box with delivery confirmation. (Rhode Island to Michigan)
I honestly never checked my tracking, but it has updated to say that it arrived today (July 30th)

I got that message recently on something that also had delivery confirmation and it still turned up. I think USPS is buggy recently *shakes head*

I'm also getting that same message on a package I have that's coming EMS :/ which is REALLY odd..

I think 4 had been sold when I bought mine.
Mine is very obviously stained all over :( she does glow pink too, but there's very obvious stain marks as well :( )

I just got mine today too but I don't see any stains on her. :( I'm so sorry yours is stained. I'm gonna guess it's due to her hair. From what I read on the auction, they found these in a storage unit and were just selling them off, so maybe they just grabbed one out of the box and mailed it out? I hope you can contact the seller and find a solution to your dilemma.

I suspect you bought yours from the second round of listings, though. The first round went up on July 19th I believe and was sold out by the 22nd, so they relisted again with more. So sounds like at least 14 were sold before yours, if not more (not sure how many rounds of listings they did). But it would be super lame for the seller to hand pick the best ones as the sales continued :\

I just pulled mine in off the porch- one has a slight mark near the neck seam on the NDS and the other does have a slight pink stain in the middle of "pony" on the NDS side. They're definitely 'never removed from bag' though so I think it is because of her hair =/ Definitely doing to open mine now!

(And my purchase was in the second round of listings)

Knibitz I'm sorry your pony was stained.  It seems like your seller may have just randomly selected one and sent it without going over it throughly. Because by your pictures you can definitely tell it has lots of pink staining to it.

It seems others received theirs with little or no staining so hopefully your seller will be willing to work something out.  As in since she has several more she can go over them and find one without flaws. I also would think she would refund your shipping costs back that it would cost for you to send it back. That would be the right thing to do as it was not your problem.

Good Luck and hopefully she is willing to work with you.

Update:

I got a response from the seller

"Hi,

First off let me apologize.   You are the second person (from 1st wave of Ponies) who has brought this to my attention.  As you will see in my other feedback, the Ponies are in excellent condition.

This has alerted me to double check every pony that is shipped out.  We have found 8 more ponies that have pink stain on the body...I don't know how they would have gotten stained like that since the bags & boxes that they were in are ALL factory sealed....but non-the-less, I will stand behind my feedback rating and get another out to you.

Please return that pony to:
*removed*

I will send you out a new Pony.

Thank You and again, sorry for the inconvenience.

- igittyup"

I let them know I would be shipping the pony back in the next two days :)

Glad to see that the seller is sensitive to the issue <3
I'll keep you up all updated!

I'm glad they are receptive - sounds like a great solution! Fingers crossed that you get a mintier pony the second time around. And it sounds like they are making an effort to pull any stained ponies out of their stash, so that's good!

I paid $75 for mine about 2 years ago. Sure enough she has some staining too. (That wasn't there 2 years ago.) She is MIP but even if she is loose and the mane touches her plastic you could end up with staining, so it seems.

$30 for a pony that is probably going to stain over time isn't that bad. Atleast it wasn't $75!  :lookround:

Will let you know the condition of mine when she arrives! I purchased mine in the first wave (19 July) and am down as the second purchaser.

At least the seller has responded positively to your request and as a non-pony collector, sellers sometimes can have no clue of a pony's condition before it leaves their hands... apart from being MIB, that is! But you (and others) have politely enlightened her, so best of luck on receiving a pony in better condition!  :)

Yeah. That's actually why I made this topic before deciding to send the pony back. The pony WAS MIP, it's not /really/ the sellers fault.
I basically said in my message to the seller that the pony arrived with several pink stains all over and I just felt she wasn't display worthy and was wondering if they had others in better condition.
I didn't think to mention that it's the hair >.< eep!
I'll follow up on that <3

But I did ship my pony back today. They haven't responded yet (after I sent them tracking), but I'm not going to pester them till it's confirmed that the pony arrived back with them. :)

Just got mine today, no pink stains phew *wipes forehead*

I'm thinking about de-bagging her though so here hair can be positioned in a way that it's not rubbing against her body so much. It's not such a huge deal to me since it's just a grubby bag and not a nice box, but I don't want to de-value her greatly either. Thoughts?

If you're not going to sell anytime soon, I'd de-bag. I had the same dilemma when I got my 2007 Fair Exclusive Pinkie Pie. She's gorgeous on all sides, but she was in a dirty little bag with a piece of cardboard stuffed between her feet. I was torn on whether or not to de-bag, but decided to go for it. I got her for what I felt was a good price and over time she should gain value as long as she remains in mint/near-mint condition, with or without the bag (I also kept the brush for the completionists!).

Knibitz, it is the weekend, so I'd give the seller the benefit of the doubt for now. If you don't hear anything by Tuesday morning, pop them a message and see what's up. Hope it gets settled!

Hum, I do wonder if the hair hasn't bleed at this point maybe you are safe? As long as you keep your ponies in a fairly stable environment as far as moisture and temperature.

But at the same time, if it wasn't in a bag you can display her better.

I hope the seller gets back to the op. I agree to give her to Tuesday though as some people don't do Ebay on weekends. If she doesn't respond by then I would be pretty annoyed.

UGH :( I never heard from the seller, but the replacement arrived today V_V
she's all good on her display side, but she still has a bright pink stain on her NDS and her paint on "THE PONY PROJECT" is smudged on her NDS too :/

siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*  I plan to display her in a shadowbox, so its not that big of a deal... but it's still stressful that they said they checked it :(  obviously didn't push the hair out of the way.

But I don't know ponies... what does the community think? Let this go completely and just give them positive?
I have a huge pet peeve about undisclosed damage, so this is under my skin major, but I am also fully aware that I am more anal than the average shopper.... so what would you do?

If there's smudged paint and not just stains, I'd bring it up. Stains are easier to miss than smudged paint, especially when the paint is so different from the body color. If nothing else the seller should have kept their word and checked the replacement completely, including pushing hair out of the way. It was great that they tried to make it right, but they never bothered to reply to you and sent another damaged pony. Not cool.

I also purchased from this seller on July 19. My first pony arrived damaged on July 23. I wrote immediately to inform him/her and told him what I suspected had happened, that the vivid pink hair had leeched color into the plastic/vinyl, and requested an exchange since he/she still had a listing for the pony. He/she was very cooperative and agreed. I returned at my expense (because I offered to do so) on July 25 and received a mint replacement on August 4. It looked like the seller had pushed the hair around in the bag to check for damage. So I have nothing bad to say, but I'm sorry to those who have received damaged replacements. I hope that you are able to resolve things.

Thanks for the picture. That looks pretty obvious to me. They have GOT to change their auctions and say that these ponies are new in the bag but have flaws.

Yes, mention it. I know it's stressful but you should show them this picture. I would be upset. I feel very bad for you.

And no refund on the return shipping? Not cool.

Edit to say: Now that I see the photo I'm starting to think the pink highlighter stain has nothing to do with the hair. Rather, it's that thing that happens to some white ponies where they get those discoloration spots.

Ugg..what a stressful situation.  :(

I give the seller credit for trying to resolve the issue.  But since she already knew there were issues, the pony should have been gone over more throughly.

I am sure she is just as stressed over the situation but in all honestly it is her responsibility to make things right.

I have to ask you though what do you feel is going to be a satisfying outcome?  Do you want to return the pony again for an exchange? Do you want to keep it and ask for perhaps a partial refund?  Or return it altogether for a full refund, plus your shipping costs?

I really really really want this pony, and she's hard to come by, so one way or another, I'd like to have one

so I see one of two outcomes

1) seller pays for me to ship this pony back and sends me a mint one in return
2) the seller refunds me partially for this damaged pony (at very least, roughly the cost of shipping the first pony back, ~3$ )

It seems REALLY odd that the seller is just not replying to me now, when replies before were near instantaneous :/  as it was said, they're probably just as frustrated as me... but hiding from me is only going to make me more grumpy :(  I'm already annoyed that they never bothered to let me know that the other pony arrived and that they shipped another out. Given the lack of communication there, my hope is thin that I will hear from them about this.

I think you are a very reasonable buyer if you are willing to have these different options for the seller to fix the situation. I am just annoyed by this treatment. If I saw an ad for this pony, or a thread mentioning these ponies (that wasn't negative), I may have considered getting one. But there is no way I will risk buying one now. This is way too much stress.

I truly hope she refunds the shipping you ALREADY paid and gives you a partial refund on this flawed pony. What is up with this seller? I'm sorry but there is no excuse at this point.

Hopefully she does what's right although not responding to you does not make her look good.

if I don't hear anything by tonight, I'm opening a paypal dispute :/  There goes their chance of positive feedback *shakes head*

Update

update bump.

"Hello,

I did not reply to you prior because was / am on vacation.

At this point it seems that I am not going to have a pony that is in the condition that you will be satisfied with, so I will refund you a complete refund of $30 once the pony is shipped back to me.

I have sold over 30 of these ponies so far and have had 1 other request for an exchange.

For what I am selling them for and what I have seen these ponies sell for at other times, and currently selling for, I just feel that you will be better suited to buy from one of the other sellers.

Once I have received the pony back, I will issue you a complete refund of $30 via Paypal.

Thank You and sorry we could not make a deal."

It REALLY bugs me that the seller is using his price to justify the poor description :enraged: no excuse for that - NONE.

I wrote them back and gave him, basically, the options posted here, but rather instead of sending me a mint pony to refund the entire price + both my shipping costs for returning both ponies.

 :(
It's really sad that he feels his low selling price justifies the damage to your pony. The one pictured in the listings has no damage, so why should the ones you have received be exceptions?
Incidentally, he has a new listing for them at $40... So he's in it for the money at this point and not a "quick turnaround." How many of these things were in that storage unit?!

Leave appropriate feedback. Say that those ponies are damaged. I'm thinking she is not getting complaints because too many buyers are just letting it go cause it's not worth it. It's giving her a false sense of righteousness.

So sorry it has come to this. This is not fair for you.

Seems like my seller is getting poorer and poorer communication...

I'm about to give up and file a paypal claim for a refund and leave neutral feedback.

EDIT:

opened up a claim through ebay.
Requesting a 10$ refund to cover shipping charges of the first pony, and damages of the second.

I'm not willing to ship the pony back given that I can't request a refund for more than the original purchase price, and i'm not in the mood to lose 10$ between shipping the first and second pony back.

Sorry that you are having such a horrid time with the seller.  :cloud:

:(  the seller should have been extra careful to check the second pony for those flaws, and since other people have recieved ponies in good conditon, while your second one is still damaged,  it just makes it seem like the seller hasnt made an effort in your case :yikes:  I think you have been reasobable with the seller and giving them options was good, but they dont seem to want to work it out now, it looks like they just want to have the pony returned so they can sell it again for extra money >.<
Definitely leave appropriate feedback for this person.  I dont doubt that they will sell flawed ponies again without mentioning it in the description :(

He offered a refund of 5$
Half of what I was requesting, but I'm going to let it go, and just accept it.

I'll probably leave neutral feedback, but I'm going to take a little time to not be pissed XD and try not to leave spiteful feedback.

edit: XD DEAR LORD!
Paypal/evilbay has to send me 5 emails to tell me that I got a refund.... THANK YOU! I GET THE IDEA.

V_V got me all excited because I'm waiting on a 100X larger refund so I was like OMG THEY BOTH CLEARED. OnO nope.

Glad to hear that you can put this one behind you! Hope you can still enjoy your TAF pony with her flaws, she's still pretty awesome!

Well I guess something is better than nothing.

Just hope they realize it cost them a neutral over it.  Hopefully you can try and put this behind you and try sunfading her (if you wish).

You're much nicer than I am!
They'd be getting a negative from me!
Sorry this didn't turn out more favorably. <3

Me too. I'd also ding the stars even though I rarely do that. It sounds like revenge but it's not for that reason. I just would want others to know.

This seller is likely to have gotten the op for a buyer.
