To be honest, since I don't do commissions, I probably price my stuff too low by most standards.  I usually create stuff because I felt like doing it.  So I really don't pay attention to how much time it took me to do but I do factor in complexity of design because (logically) the more complex, the more time it probably took me.  When I'm done I look at it and think, "How much would someone like me be willing to pay for that?" and go from there.  I'm not really creating things to pay bills so my pricing can be a little more flexible.  However, I do factor in how much the supplies cost so I at least make back what I spent on things.

Does anyone know how many hanks a styling size G3 takes?

I've never made one, only stripped a couple. I suppose I can figure it out from the hair I saved from them... but if anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.

Anyways
I'll look at my pricing again and see if it's realistic for me as a newbie. Yeah I'll add in the shipping costs too cause they keep going up great idea.

As for the styling size g3 ponies I'm not sure how many it would take... sorry I couldn't be of any help.

It depends on the length of hair to be used. But for my MlP x Popples G3s I used 3 hanks of white which was then dyed in several colours.

Thank you! Only three hanks? I thought it'd be a lot more. That pony is adorable.

Yes, always. Especially since these three I've been working on just aren't turning out how I want.

Yes!  Except that I have so many ideas that my brain is twirling in circles!

I really need to settle on an idea.

Oh gosh, it's so funny you say that, because I've realized it's almost the reverse for me! I had a custom commission that I was doing as a gift for a friend.... and it's a good thing it was a gift, and not paid, because I started it at the BEGINNING of the pandemic lockdowns (summer 2020) and just finished it LAST MONTH! :faint: That's like two years!! It's the longest any custom pony has ever taken for me!

I know a lot of it is chalked up to the stress of living through a historic event, but I was able to start and even finish other customs just for myself in that time! And I realized what the other aspect was this: I'm okay with making a mess of my own customs, or not finishing them 100% (like not sealing them) because it doesn't matter if they're perfect. They're just for myself! But if it's going to my friend, it HAS to be perfect, because they deserve perfection. And nothing stymies an artist like trying to achieve perfection! :yikes:

I struggled a lot with a lot of 'firsts' for this custom (reglittering symbols and adding tinsel, both pretty basic things I've never done!), which undoubtedly slowed me down, some of my slowness was definitely because I didn't want to disappoint my giftee. And she's an angel, of course she'd never be judgmental! But I was stuck in my own head, and I was being judgmental of myself!

That said, I do usually get a lot more motivation when I know someone else is waiting to see my result (swap, gift, contest), than if I am just doing it for fun. But this time, I sort of doubled down on the 'motivation' and it just burnt me out! I would like to never repeat that again! :lmao:

... now I'm trying to finish a whole bunch of ponies on a deadline, let's light a candle and send good vibes on that... :lmao:

I know it's tempting to slack on your own customs, but I always try to do my best. You don't want to make habits out of being sloppy.

The longest I waited for a custom pony was a year but it was worth it :)

I am actually having a hard time getting motivated after I got my idea down. Mainly I'm just feeling lazy. I need to condition some clay which means getting my pasta maker out and doing all that and blah.
