Pony Corral / Re: What’s your pony Instagram name?
« on: July 20, 2019, 08:28:16 PM »
Yay, more Instagrammers! I'm also @blushpuppie over there (just changed from @locketclub to match). I love the IG vintage toy community and seeing everyone's gorgeous and creative collections, making friends, and of course shopping the sales! ♡ Unfortunately I'm also kind of known for long hiatuses due to my depression/anxiety, and I hate that I'm always feeling unfit to come back and missing out on so much; but maybe that will improve soon? I have so many new ponies/toys I want to share and probably just need a little push (and also to finally learn how to do stories, I guess). c:

Oh gosh, I'd always watch a bootlegged tape at my grandmother's that for sure had at least one of the Censored Eleven, as well as a Porky Pig version of Gulliver's Travels (or something very similar) and a short called 'Have You Got Any Castles?', which was sort of a less-PC version of the Daffy Duck short 'Book Revue' that Cartoon Network regularly played around that time. I also had a tape that strangely was sold as a Droopy collection but actually contained 'Hector's Hectic Life' (as someone else mentioned), 'The Stupid-stitious Cat,' and a (maybe Fleischer?) short about leprechauns and gold that I never paid as much attention to.

And this one's sure to be a trip for anyone else who remembers it -- the early Porky Pig one 'Wholly Smoke,' featuring his sidekick Gabby Goat and a shop full of pipes, cigars, etc. that come to life and sing about the dangers of smoking. Shockingly, it actually was on CN now and then in the late 90s/early 2000s. Understandably, most others I've ever seen mention it say it scarred them for life; but I remember finding it hilarious, and the only reasoning I can give for that is that one of my parents must have dropped me as a baby. But I also devoured things like Courage the Cowardly Dog at that age, so maybe to me it was only a slight separation?

Off Topic / Re: Your prefered format for listening to music?

I collect vinyls and adore my baby Crosley Cruiser, but for everyday/on-the-go listening, I agree that convenience is key. I currently stream most everything from YouTube, with a little Google Play Music on the side when I'd rather listen to a mix. I don't have Premium currently, so I still wade through my share of ads; but now that I'm re-enrolled in school I plan to get the Google student bundle, which I'm told is the best value for its kind (it combines YT Premium and Music Premium). I'm actually kind of glad for the death of iTunes, as I never wanted to sync my entire library and picking and choosing songs was always tedious. But plenty of people prefer different formats for different times and places.

Aww, what an adorable little one! Terriers can be a handful, but they certainly (usually) make up for it with plenty of love and kisses! Congratulations! ♡

Almost anything Jim Henson touched in his lifetime is an eternal classic in my book. I'm a tremendous Muppets geek and especially adore Gonzo, Robin, and the Electric Mayhem (heads up -- The Muppet Movie will show at select US theaters the 25th and 30th of this month for its 40th anniversary; I can't wait to see it on the big screen!). Fraggle Rock is brilliant and touches on so many complex themes I've not seen addressed nearly as well elsewhere, whether aimed at children or adults. And while all the Christmas specials are excellent, Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas should be tantamount to Rudolph and the Grinch in every home in the country. c;

I grew up with Sesame in the mid-late 90s -- the 'Around the Corner' era that introduced a set expansion and many new characters that were all wiped out in a few years because apparently kids couldn't keep up with them all. (I still haven't stopped being bitter about that, pfft.) Almost everything post-Elmo's World is unwatchable to me -- so much of the original edge and humor left when he was pushed front and center, and now the stories they're trying to tell with him are completely unrealistic for the age he is supposed to represent (that's why Big Bird used to be used so much). It's in a pretty sad state.

Funnily enough, up until only the last couple of years, I was fully intent on entering the children's TV field as a writer/producer/researcher. It's been a huge interest area most of my life, and plenty of shows from my childhood onward helped influence that. My all-time favorite preschool series is a hugely underrated one (maybe because it gets mixed up often with Eureeka's Castle?) -- Allegra's Window from Nick Jr. It was the complete package, very ahead of its time, not obnoxious or pandering, full of fun little details, and just hugely adorable and charming. Many Sesame and Fraggle Rock alums actually worked on it, so it's definitely worth a peek if you have little ones. ♡

Introductions / Hi from Alabama! ♡

Hello everyone!~ It's so nice to finally be registered here after years of dragging my feet. c:

My name is Katherine, but I also often go by just K. I'm in my mid-twenties, and my interest in My Little Pony has spanned almost a decade (and in vintage toys in general since childhood). Like many others, I was fatefully hooked forever into the franchise watching FIM way back when G4 began; and since then I've acquired one of almost every G4 character released as a regular pony. I've collected G1 for close to four years but admired them much earlier than that, as my interest inevitably led me further into the pony world. As a little girl in the mid-late 90s, I loved all kinds of animal-themed toy lines (especially my Kenner LPS); but somehow G2 slipped my radar and then I guess I'd never have expected to love MLP, but here we are. :P

While new to the Arena, I've actually been fairly active on pony-related social media for several years; so there's a chance some of you will recognize me from places like Instagram (I've been through a few different handles and was most recently @locketclub, but I'm @blushpuppie hereon). I've kept several good and extremely talented friends who I know are also here (like the amazing Larissa/Shelves of Whimsy).

Some of my very favorite ponies are Beautiful Bows (my longtime grail, who joined the herd back in March!), Locket, Yum Yum, and Pretty Puff. You'll also probably guess I love Li'l Litters -- my absolute biggest MLP-related dream is to complete the My Little Puppy (only) Nursery Family sets. Mommy Funtime Spaniel is one of my favorite pieces in all my collections (and possibly the single rarest vintage toy I own), and I'd be thrilled to reunite her with her pups and their accessories someday.

I also collect many other vintage girly toys and nostalgic items -- LPS, Sweetie Pups, Little Pretties, Polly Pocket, 90s Minnie Mouse, a few Barbies -- along with some modern Disney, especially Lady and the Tramp. It's my goal the next few weeks to sell off a lot of items I've weeded out and/or had in storage forever to help me finish my Psych degree and just for funds in general, as I'm recently unemployed and awaiting approval for disability. I hope being eventually able to sell here will help me accomplish that.

Another big reason I joined is that I'd looove to get to know other MLP and toy collectors near me, if there are any! My disabilities unfortunately make socialization and transportation issues, so not knowing anyone nearby who'd enjoy hanging out to talk ponies or thrift together disappoints me often. I live just outside the Huntsville area in North Alabama, so I'd be thrilled to hear from anyone local interested in a pony pal.

Thank you all so much for having me! I can't wait to meet some new smiling faces. ♡♡
